Beta Marshmallow update on the way with double-tap to wake fixes

by XB on 16th March 2016

in Android, Firmware, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3 series

New BetaSony Mobile will shortly update the Android Marshmallow Beta for Xperia Z2/Z3 devices with a few fixes. A notice was sent today to all those in the beta that a forthcoming update will fix the double-tap to wake problems that some people had. There is also a fix for those that are having audio problems with Bluetooth. We’ll let you know once the bug-fix update starts to roll.

New Beta

Thanks Niek!

Somehow, it feels like the Z2/Z3 beta is more advanced, with more bug fixes, than what we got for the Z3+/Z5 :O

  • indianmeister

They test it with those devices and then when is “bug free” they release it to Z5

  • Stuart Gardoll

I wish the Beta Program was available for Z5. The Marshmallow update has rendered my Bluetooth audio virtually unlistenable with constant crackling and distortion.

  • Stuart Gardoll

Tell that to the Z5 owners still struggling with these same issues. :-/

  • indianmeister

I know what u mean I have a Z5, but everyone is having those issues, so they fix it, test it on the beta for Z3/Z2 and once is stable they release it first for Z5 owners

  • William Tavares

How it will be first on Z5 if it’s already on Z2/Z3? lmao

  • Liam Hethershaw

The beta program was available for the Z5 before the marshmallow release to test the software, this is exactly the same but before the Z3 and Z2 marshmallow release. It is also very different to the concept beta which is also available for the Z3.

Meanwhile, double tap to wake feature Xperia M5 had on initial Android 5.0 release is now gone after 5.1 update *sigh*

  • Why not double tap to sleep? :/

  • Jacky

i think he meant the stable version, not the beta version

  • webuser.my

Oh… Facinating, I thought it was an isolated issue with my Z5 Premium… was about to throw it out of the window in frustration…

I’m currently using a 3.5mm to Bluetooth transmitter as a stop gap measure… (Big and ugly as hell)

  • iia3ezu

    Wow, still on Marshmallow Beta?
I think it is about time to start working on Android N. The Developer Preview has been released.

Slow on development, slow on marketing/sales… and you wonder why Sony mobiles are not selling well.

  • PieBash

Manufacturers can only start working on N after its official release.

  • jag

Agree with this! Can someone in the beta program suggest this to the devs?
Or maybe they already did suggest it and they don’t want to include it because the power button would be useless if they did.
But this feature is so much useful when your phone is on the desk or table. There will be no need to reach for the power button. #firstworldproblems

  • Nathan

How long before the general release did the beta program start for the Z5?

  • jamie evans

Since I got 6.0 upgrade, the LTE connection has stopped working. Why?

  • jag

I’m really having this assumption that they are more bugs in Z5 than the Z3+ M update. I can’t find any other bugs in Z3+ other than the battery usage “grey icons”.

  • Samuel

Because it is BETA software…it is supossed to fail

  • jamie evans

So until I get 6.0.1, LTE conection won’t work?

  • Stefanus Paulus

When will Z3 and Z3 compact get its Marshmallow update?

  • Chan Kin Cheung

@disqus_I7oCUlC4gt:disqus, you are right in interpreting his message, but he is right regardless. Just think about the chronological order, look at this timeline.
New feature –> Test on Z2/Z3 beta –> Achieve stable on Z2/Z3 (at this point, Z2/Z3 did get a stable version of the said feature first) –> Release it for Z5 (already late)

  • Jonathan Bratanata

Yeah, and just to add, that’s going to be SEPTEMBER this year.

  • skec00

Manually enter APN settings of your provider, should be fine after.

  • Žilvinas

    WHEN??????

  • Liam Hethershaw

It was around a month or so, the beta was released on the 10/02/16 and the general release was 07/03/16

  • mrninko

do you really think it would be useful? i dont think so. when u use phone you tap it many times (e.g. while playing games) so result would be that instead of playing game or doing something you wanna the phone would be instantly locking and unlocking :D:D:D

  • Kadek

On my white Z5C the screen erratic behavior is comes back. And ghost touch as well. And all the 3 navbar noy responding at all. Problem fix after turn off screen and turn it on again. After a couple of hours it started again. Please sony fix it :(

  • Sadman Khan

The double tap to sleep will be in the empty space of the homescreen then. Like on Asus. Or they can always add a toggle to the notification bar. That’s the best alternative

  • Sadman Khan

It will it will. Just add the APN for your network. Or request internet settings. This tends to happen on major software upgrades

  • Kadek

    Iam using action launcher plus.
It has double tap to turn off
And its the closest to stock android

  • Orfeas Lampropoulos

We also need a better screen calibration..

  • Exactly! LG does the same!
Please, someone suggest this in the beta program :/

  • Probably in the following weeks. April I assume

Enough with those Betas from end of summer of 2015 up to now we are testing this goddamn betas!! Just release that update normally and officially and we are done!
It’s such a shame… some companies are testing on there phone the ”N” and we are here sitting and still testing the ”M” ,masturbating on some shity minor bugs that still not have been fixed.

Is it because this is the last major update for z2/z3 so they give z2/z3 users for beta testing??

  • Samuel

I had the beta for a complete day and it was working OK. 4G /LTE and everything. Check your settings.

  • The Android Concept is different from this Beta. This Beta is going to be the “official” update

Not into this tap to wake cause sometimes my device suddenly dailing num or pin in my pocket with this features turn on. Better sony improve their hidden gallery option. maybe with a pin or fingerprint excess . Plus hidden video in image gallery still appearing in movie apps. Music apps with spotify should stay in one apps no need to jump apps. Split view should be replacing the small apps. Maybe some said we can find it in playstore for image privacy apk but to have it as stock will be awesome. Sony already had good quality device but still leaking with nowdays features compare with other flagship.

  • cicababa

wow, double tap to wake…? i’ll pretty sure buy an xperia with such a great feature :-p

Only 3 Nexus Devices now have a ” Developer Preview ” in it’s very-alpha stage.. Even the official release for these 3 phone is in October this year!!

And the biggest company in Android world which is Samsuck have released M for Galaxy S6 family and Note5 only..

So what the fuck you want with this nonsense shit?!!!
