STAMINA mode makes a return to Japanese Xperia Z4/Z5 models on Marshmallow

Xperia Battery STAMINASony Mobile and Japanese operator NTT docomo have released an Android Marshmallow update that sees the return of the STAMINA mode, as expected. The battery-saving mode was axed when Marshmallow first arrived, as Google’s native Doze feature does something very similar.

The new firmware build number 32.1.F.1.38 is currently live on the Xperia Z5 (SO-01H), Xperia Z5 Compact (SO-02H) and Xperia Z5 Premium (SO-03H). In addition, NTT docomo has today released Android Marshmallow for the Xperia Z4 (SO-03G), which also includes STAMINA mode. The Xperia Z4 has been updated to build number 32.1.E.1.38.

Now that Japanese models have STAMINA mode back, it is only a matter of time before we see it introduced to global models. Indeed, Sony recently confirmed that STAMINA mode is due to make a return in Xperia devices running Marshmallow later in the year.

YESSSS, Now give it to the International Models :D

  • David Challinor

This is great news I can’t wait for it to return. I use to get a day and half to two days on my Z5 Compact until Marshmallow. Doze is okay I guess but you have no control over it and it only works some of the time. Stamina mode / Great Battery life is the main reason I left Apple after 4 years and chose Sony, I thought I’d made a mistake… IT’S A GOOD DAY !

  • ozanyalcn45

Batery icon looks weird in stamina settings.i was wont to the old icon

Any other known changes on this version?

  • Hansa Madusanka Amarasekara

Nice to hear that Stamina Mode back on Marshmallow.
Waiting for Marshmallow for D6653, Sony Xperia z3, Sri Lanka.

  • Kevin Pang

So, what is it different from the STAMINA from Lollipop? How does it interact with Doze? That’s what I am very interested about. But I very welcome this feature.

  • OzJason

Still Feb patch level and 6.0… disappointing.

  • Dion

    Still 6.0 wow

  • Dominic81

Still on 6.0 with February security patches, while the Z2/Z3 are already on 6.0.1. I don’t get it?! Come on Sony

  • Brick

What are the differences between 6 and 6.0.1? Also what’s fixed in the latest security patch?

  • muhkuhap

6.0.1 e.g. readded the option to Disable notifications TILL NEXT ALARM!!

  • Still use loli, wait for this stamina mode on MM.
    Hell yeah…

  • muhkuhap

Useless crap anyway. Buy a brick phone for that.

  • Ben Leung

The option(?????XXX) under the the option (STAMINA XXX) is Ultra STAMINA mode.

  • Ben Leung

Once again, the option(?????XXX) under the the option (STAMINA XXX) is Ultra STAMINA mode.

  • Matt

    My phone body is ready

  • Matt

How dare you ,it’s extremely useful.

  • And new emojis

  • Khillo81

And what the hell is a brick phone????? I guess you mean a dumb phone. Or in other words: a pre-2003 phone (best phones ever, they could even be used as weapons). I agree though that it is a great option for when you’re running low on battery with no socket in sight…

  • Luis alexander rosas velasquez

We have Feb securty patch too

  • Sadman Khan

    That’s important shit

  • Joonwoo Park

What if I flash Japanese rom to international model? Any incompatibility expected?

  • Musharab

Desperately Want STAMINA MODE in Marshmallow for Z2, Z3, Z4, Z5

I can’t wait Stamina worked perfectly . I never had a battery issue with my z1 or z3

WOW hope it’s true (except the RAM should be bigger just to keep up with the competition)

  • Bashar Shehab

But I guess this is Low Battery Mode? Correct me if I’m wrong but I think this option is low Battery mode

(Because of the icon is the same as LBM in Lollipop)

  • Sweggity

I can see there are lot of German people who loves Xperia

So happy to see this good news, by the way i got a question and i hope that someone can answer me, it’s about the battery performance, well : i put my z5C underwater a llittle seconds the i rinse it, it worked normally, after few hours; i see that notification from the plugging in (head/earphone) the jack port appeared a lots, i stopped it untill i put the earphone, but after even if i plugg the headphone that notification didn’t appear again, also i saw the battery started to reduce constantly, my question is ; is the water can make this issue to the jack port and reduce the battery’s performance ? thank you :D

  • Ulas

What about ULTRA STAMINA mode?? I think its more important than stamina mode.

  • Samuel

    Is Ultra STAMINA enabled?

  • David Wasp

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/4fgqb8/sony_begins_rollout_of_stamina_mode_for/
Its not even the same stamina mode, they just renamed low battery mode to stamina, I am disappointed, they took so long to release marshmallow and it feels half baked now.

  • YuuriAyano

I wonder what the new STAMINA mode does.

  • kaostheory

Anyone hear about Xperia X premium with a HDR screen?

  • hansip

It is better for you to blow (simply with your mouth) the remaining water out of the jack and USB port before you continue using the phone after submerged it. It is a very simple and easy thing to do.

The battery will take hit just because the additional false alarm which will trigger alert in the UI, which even though a simple Ux but processing power will be needed nonetheless.

GSMArena reports that Xperia X Premium is coming with HDR display and USB Type-C. Is that true?

  • Blazing Mak

It’s really Ultra Stamina Mode, who don’t want it for those only use for calling and photo?

  • Lee Jia Hui

I “think” the Ultra Stamina Mode is already changed to Emergency Mode.

For real, this Stamina is ultra Stamina…
The normal one, now is Doze.
    Doze = Stamina
    Stamina (6.0) = ULTRA STAMINA

F**k this news. There’s another one about the Xperia X Premium which is more exciting. If those killer specs are true, I’m definitely buying it.

  • Cool2B

The home button of the blue theme looks nice, where to get it?

  • Abdou Zaouia

In fact, i think in that moment when i blew it, i favored water to enter more deeply, anyway i’m putting it in the rice for 2 days, and i hope if there any humidity, it will be absorbed :D thank you for you feedback.

why only 1080p screen and still 3GB of RAM in device called “Premium” at the end of 2016 or maybe even 2017 ????????

Illogical… still no any news on camera (same bad camera of X Poorformance?) and the Battery though.

  • azzido

which killer specs? 1080p 5.5″ display and 3GB of RAM at the end of 2016 or even maybe 2017???

  • azzido

hope there will be a frosted glass back variant with epic green color as of Z5.
And 4GB of RAM for GOD’s sake… and camera with finally better lens…

  • I want and update with 6.0.1 android version and april security patch, if possible, security patch for may if we get update next month.

also camera interface for manual mode must be improved, it is unpractical to open all the time settings just to change iso or to enable/disable hdr.

  • skrug

looks like it’s the Pixels (movie) theme.

I can assure you it won’t. it will be blown to the outside and it will leave splatter around it. already done it multiple times with my XZU and Z5P, no issue.

About that rice method, well it has proven to be a myth so yeah..

  • iosvsios

Because the spec war isn’t everything. Make a phone that lasts a while and works great and has no hiccups in performance, camera, usability.. Not one that just participates in a p***ing contest on a specsheet.

you’re right but in Android world the hardware specs are very important for making decision to buy the phone , I mean finally most end users will get the phone with the best specs,

And I heard that Galaxy Note 6 will come up with 6GB of RAM, Sony need to catch up rivals

It *is* low battery mode. Check the settings screen posted by the guy on reddit. The description of the new “Stamina mode” is identical to the current description of low battery mode. The only thing that’s changed is that you get a few more options to choose when it is activated, but in effect, it does exactly the same thing, *not* what classic Stamina mode did. Which wouldn’t make any sense anyway, because what Stamina used to do, Doze is supposed to do now, regardless of whether people think it works better or worse.

  • azzido

sorry galaxy S7 has 855 nits, 2000:1 contrast? wooow! Oled has infinite contrast, and how about the black levels? Why they do not mention the Black levels? :P you know why… and sorry 3GB of RAM since Z2… Sorry.

+ very uly look, at least on this concept, too rounded, metal, no frosted back, camera not under one piece of glass (probably plastic camera lens cover as in Z5 Premium = no!).

For me it seems like they are not able to deliver in camera department (odd) so they are trying with LCD displays. Still it should be bigger, at least 5.7″

  • azzido

You forgot they will ofer it with a very high price, probvably more expensive than the competition like it was with Z5 Premium, this is why you should expect better specs at this pricing tag.

  • Abdou Zaouia

I agree with you, just one more thing that i want to share with you why i saw the battery’s performance is reducing, take a look this screenshot from my device, and you will see that green “thing” is not next to 100 % as it was before, compare it with your if you want.

  • jokensy

Very ugly look? We don’t even know how this sh*t will look like. This photo is the X Performance and if 5.5″ is not enough for you, you should start wearing glasses (unless you already do).

    No thanks!
