Marshmallow for M4 Aqua on the wayIt looks like the PTCRB has just certified Android Marshmallow for the Xperia M4 Aqua and M4 Aqua Dual. A new update with build number 26.3.A.0.131 has appeared on the PTCRB page, which compares to current build 26.1.A.3.111 (Android 5.0 Lollipop).

The move from ‘26.1’ to ‘26.3’ based firmware is very likely to indicate that this is the long-awaited Marshmallow build. We hope that the update includes adoptable storage, as it is a phone that really needs it, especially the 8GB variants. We’ll let you know once it starts to roll, it shouldn’t be too much longer now.

Thanks Julius, Marko and xezrunner!

  • Stefan Mari?

Now for M5 and I’ll be a happy camper. Oh, and put in into Nougat upgrade list. Thanks, Sony.

  • razorg

Oh yes! Although I am a Z5C user, I am thrilled to see proper software support for mid-range devices from Sony (although it’s not so fast). Great job Sony. Now please bring the UI and boot animations etc from X series to our Z5 series :))

  • PRATHAMESH GOVEKAR

    What about E2306?

  • Ming William Lee

Holy S***, finally it is HERE!!!

  • At?lay

I want REAL STAMINA MOD! (Z2-MM)

  • Vinicius Araujo

Xperia M4 really deserves to be upgraded first. The actual firmware is just terrible: buggy, unstable and slow. C4/C5/M5 at least got Android 5.1, and they run very smoothly as far as I saw.

  • John Walker

i think the main problem is 5.0 android that is on… on marshmallow it should run smoothly

  • Kliment Stamenkov

Finally!! I would love adoptable storage because it’s such a struggle with the 8GB model.

  • Kwstakhs

Be sure to buy a class 10 sd card if you use adoptable storage

  • Maxime Krähenbühl

Victory ! Just too late for me, i bought an another FirePhone, the Z4 ! I’m happy for the M4 because Lollipop was horrible…

  • Eric Jay

At long last. And i hope stamina wont be sacrificed.

  • PRAISE THE LORD ALMIGHTY ! I cant belive it. after half a year. finally xD

  • Milt MacFarlane

Might be unique in Australia but my build looks later

  • Margaret Lawrence

    <<o. ???????????????????????????????????????????????????:::::::!bw751p:….,…

  • Eduardo Otero

There is not Stamina on Marshmallow for all Xperia

  • Eduardo Otero

In fact he should buy an U1 or U3 SD instead of a Class 10.

  • Eduardo Otero

With Doze pushed by Google is almost impossible to keep with Stamina

  • Eduardo Otero

Not yet, it is just closer to get here.

  • Eduardo Otero

This is just a certification when it gets available it will be for all variants.

  • Ming William Lee

    Come on… People definitely knows…

  • PRATHAMESH GOVEKAR

These are separate devices as per PTCRB device list.
    Also E2303 is 8GB varient while E2306 is 16GB.

  • FredrikAn

    26.3…

  • Eduardo Otero

You didn’t understand me, this is just a certification, the prove that Sony is working on MM for M4. When Sony release it. Sony will release MM for both variants E2303 and E2306.
No matter when Sony certificate it for E2306. It can happen even after the release.

  • Eduardo Otero

    I also know…

  • PRATHAMESH GOVEKAR

If this is the case then I will be more than happy but as per trends in past (LTE models getting updates first) sadly I doubt that :(

  • Innosaint Nwoke

I don’t think there’s adoptable storage on there… Is there?

  • Heeyeon Ahn

More like a FULL year. I’ve had this phone since August 2015 and it’s been on 5.0 ever since.

  • Kliment Stamenkov

I bought an U1 but it’s from AliExpress and I’m not sure if it’s actually good enoguh.

  • Yeah but it was announced 6 months, the update i mean xP

  • Wolf0491

There is it is just very different and doesn’t work as good according to people. That said I never used it to begin with.

  • Milt MacFarlane

Thanks, talking about my current build

  • Alvy

I have M5. Ya its smooth but i compared it with one plus one and one plus one is way smoother. You will understand when you use both

  • Stefan Mari?

Install beta Xperia Home (from Marshmallow). It’s much smoother than Xperia 5.1 launcher.

  • Utkarsh Srivastav

    What about its E2363 variant ?? 16 GB M4 Aqua Dual @ed@Eduardo_Otero:disqus

  • Eduardo Otero

Well Dual SIM variants used to take more time, let’s hope it doesn’t take too much.

  • Eduardo Otero

Actually LTE models update first, the 32306 does is because the US variant is E2306 and they always get the update first, yours may take long because of your operator, if you flash your M4 to US software you’ll get updates too much earlier.

  • Eduardo Otero

Well, let’s hope it works properly. At least it should work as fast as a Class 10 maybe a little faster.

  • Eduardo Otero

That’s what I meant. The low battery mode was rename as Stamina. It is clearly a false Stamina and we won’t see it back because of Doze.

  • Kliment Stamenkov

    Hopefully!

  • PRATHAMESH GOVEKAR

Mine is carrier independent, Unlocked US M4 Aqua E2306. But last update which I got was way after everyone else received the update. (26.1.A.3.XXX)

  • I’ve been reading about the PTCRB
Getting a certificate from them means that the manufacturer (Sony) ask them for a review of the update in order to deliver it to the many carriers out there.
The certificate is public so the review procedure was done many weeks ago.
What we are waiting is for carriers to deploy the update.

  • havor

I got my self a Samsung Pro+ as that one got 95/90MB/s R/W.

yeah it cost €40 for 64GB and €20 for 32GB, but its worth it, even tho the M4 dose only 50MB/s, you still gain a lot with small files, as the read/write speed collapses a lot less then with slower cards.

  • havor

If there is no adoptable storage, then i will never buy a other Sony phone again!

  • Ailan Hidaz

None of the flagships got Adoptable storage, why would Sony give the M4 that feature?

  • Ailan Hidaz

I have yet to see any manufacturer upgrade their lollipop Helio X10 phones to Marshmallow, so I am doubtful we will see the update for M5 any time soon.
I own one btw so I am hopeful too, but let’s pray sony actually breaks out of the mold.

  • havor

Maybe because 3.5GB free space is very little for apps, and because its the common complain among users all users?

  • Pat Rick

I have a xperia M5 and i want dynamic themes like xperia z3

  • Ailan Hidaz

I’m all for the M4 getting adoptable storage as I happen to have an M4 dual, but you have to be realistic – this is Sony Mobile. They live in a world of their own. I highly doubt they will add adoptable storage JUST for M4 when they haven’t provided it for any other MM phone yet.

  • Roh_Mish

The m4 Aqua really struggles on L. This should be a very nice upgrade

  • Roh_Mish

Sony really got kicked with the doze thing. It’s based largely on their pull request and they themselves are locked down by it

  • Eduardo Otero

Marshmallow is available now for M4 Aqua E2306 Customised US and it goes first that others M4.

  • Rizqi Angga

and the MM os still doenst come to m4 aqua until i trade my phone today hahaaa

  • PRATHAMESH GOVEKAR

Yeah! Update for all variants is live, will check later after reaching home

  • havor

It’s very possible that adoptable storage will be a hidden option, by accessing the ‘Developer Options’, that way Sony can cover it’s ass, and we will have what we want, and if someone dose not know not to remove there SD card, and fuck up there phone, Sony can say, hey sorry but we don’t support adoptable storage.

  • Ailan Hidaz

It’s actually not available in any variants of the M4. I just got the update and it doesn’t have it anywhere in the settings. Yay

  • Kwstakhs

Indeed, my class 10 does the job fine, but in general it isn’t the fastestst at the market…

  • And nearly a month later…

  • Cryio

My dad’s unlocked M4 Aqua is still stuck on 5.1 for whatever reason.
