Xperia Beta ProgramSony Mobile has confirmed that the Xperia Beta Program will close. There will be no more planned beta firmware releases, the last firmware that rolled was build number 23.5.A.1.238. Sony confirmed that there will be new commercial firmware release that will hit all Xperia Z2/Z3 owners “in the coming weeks” – anyone on the beta program will be updated to this new firmware automatically. There is no word whether the program will be resurrected at some point, but for now it looks like no more beta firmware builds are planned.

Thanks Niek and Pro Sony!

  • Let´s hope we get some nice and stable releases :D

Btw, Xperia Blog, you should considerer, at some point, make an article explaining the differences between Beta, Concept and Comercial releses. A lot of people still don´t know the difereces..

  • Ferhat Dönmez

    Closed :(

  • Ming William Lee

Please remember to bring beta for Z5 series in the coming build.

  • Matt

already got the .238 custom firmware from xda. god they fixed alot of things.

    the smoothest firmware yet

i might get a new xperia next year just for the fingerprint scanner

  • ryq24

    Cutting cost.

  • gez-verweigerer

Is only logical this step. The Z3 comes close to the end-of-life. More effort will be spent on the improvement of the Z5 and X-series. The Z3 will probably get the upgrade to Android 7 N though as it is already part of the developer preview program. Let’s see what will happen to the concept ROM.

  • Akand

Not only beta program, but also complete Xperia will be closed very soon

  • Solano89

New update for all the Xperias with 6.0.1 that include adoptable storage and stamina mode! These are a must! And a better camera software because the camera is very capable but the software ruins the stuff! Come on SONY! :-)

  • Yasir Fawad

Been a Sony Xperia fan for years. My sixth sense says they will roll down the mobile division after the H2 flagship of 2016 (which actually will be a midrange by then).

  • Mustafa Sezer

  • Jonny

Sony just check your wallet before they give you services. They stopped supporting mid-range last year. That is all you know before you want to own any Sony devices.

  • No. Ir just doesn’t make sense since Z3 already have support for N and Z2 is in the end of this life :/

  • DIsChaos

To start with, you are a hater, you claim to not doing any advertising for xiaomi, you are wrong and taking us for idiot, if you do hate Sony and don’t own phone from this brand why posting on fan site? To finish you off, I brought my xperia z2 in summer 2014 is still working fine, it did get updates for two years now and I am happy with it, if you want to advertise your cheap Chinese copy do it away not here thanks.

  • EQ

and that’s why we neg and report the clown!

  • Alvin

    Did they fixed multitasking?

  • Matt

? Idk ,im using custom debloated Software , and already being optimized

So on my phone i can have 8 Apps open and no Problem

  • @Matt_Na:disqus Could you share a link to the XDA thread that you’re referring to please Matt?

  • betatesterz

Hi, this is kinda off toppic. But does anyone knows if the File Commander app is still the default file manager app used in the current or possibly upcoming Xperia Line?

  • Alvin

    Oh okay..

  • Matt

good for you , instead of wining and complaining , you take matters into your own hand .

  • I don´t have any problems on my Z2 With the latest official release

  • fried_egg

Z2 & Z3 would have been aging units for full testing of their “upcoming” ideas… but the big problem was “did anything they do make it to most customers” – as most are on network firmware not unlocked intl handsets.

  • Jonny

    Absolutely agree.

  • Ryuzaki Raiga

will xperia still exist in few years??? as sony fan i hope they change their strategies. whether to focus on premium devices or mainsream devices. give us qualcomm instead of mediatek.

  • harryxixixixix

Did they improve camera software in latest beta build??

  • Jason Evans

That’s not cool, but I’ve heard that the Japanese company confirmed that all of the Xperia Z2/Z3 units should start receiving a new commercial firmware release in the coming weeks, with those on a beta build being updated automatically. Cheers, Jason from Moving In Ltd.

  • KzX

    Yes. Still default.

  • Mario Medina

What will happen with which we build number No. NPD56N.1000106.
I have not received the notification to update to version 23.5.A.1.238. Thanks.

  • Aldi Wan Kenobi

Me too…I got a Z3 Compact right now. Planning on getting a new one next year or maybe Christmas gift to myself. :)

Though, I’m still contemplating a Z5Compact or an X. Though I’m leaning on Z5C for the fingerprint scanner….I don’t really want to spend on X-Performance. But still a long way off…might change my mind. Let’s see.

  • Alvin

I only have two problems.. stock themes that makes status bar colour black (because I want to apply the light theme because of its minimalistic yet great looks and the only downside is the black status bar, annoyed me so bad, so I’m using xperia x lime theme right now) and next problem is that multitasking, really bad compared to lollipop which is amazing

  • Alvin

I doubt they will update z3 to Nougat, but if they will, I’ll be excited..

  • Alvin

He is either a troll or just one small child.. we should chill :D

  • Alvin

How about android security patch version? I’m afraid my phone would be vulnerable after years… or should i have to worry about it?

  • jonoave

I’m thinking they will. Lollypop was the last update for Z1. So I’m guessing Marshmallow will be the last update for Z2, and similarly Nougat will be the last update for Z3.

  • My problems on Z2 is the screen rotation, playing music on bluetooth handsets, the screen that doesn’t suspend and some apps that take some seconds to open

  • Fadi Obaya

Why are you lying? There is no file manager pre-installed anymore.

  • azzido

unfortunately due to very bad mid range X series which is poor and extremely overpriced for what and when it is offering :(

They stopped to listen to customers completely, this is how it ends…

  • Alvin

    Do you on marshmallow?

  • Alvin

But lollipop was also the last update for Z, that means the “soulmates” of sony phones are:
X/XP-Whatever that 2H flagship is or if there’s any

  • MoYeung

    Z1 new firmware please …

  • iia3ezu

Excellent news. Now more manpower can be switched to making sweet Xperia themes!!

  • Matt

improvement ? im using camera with xperia x software in it .

yes there is an improvement but as always is not dramatic.

  • Matt

yep , the only manufaturer i thrust are google and sony. motorola kinda fell of the wagon there with that fugly rectangular fingerprint sensor on moto z.

does anyone notices motorola new line called Z and sony new line called X
and samsung new line called ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTU

  • Yes. 6.0.1

  • KIMI

    Is that sarcasm I smell?

  • Jonny

fuckk you sony. like shitt of manufacturer

  • Alvy

And i am still waiting for MM. My poor Xperia-M5 :(

  • azzido

what was this beta program for? And why it was still Beta for so long???

  • Saeed K

    Xperia Z3 dual and nougat?

  • EQ

Nah he is a clown and he got rekt big time!

  • EQ
  • Sweggity

    I really hope Z2 n Z3 gets Android 7

  • Uzair Syed

I feel like pretty soon the only thing to exist in SONY is going to be PlayStation :(

  • Karen Powe

    <<o. ???????????????????????????????????????????????????:::::::!be380p:….,…

  • ????? ????????

Oh nice, cause multitasking was best at 5.1.1 .264 (had 15 Apps open without a reload, 10 if a game was thrown).
And in the 6.0.1 (the .0.575 I think) sometimes it kicks even my second app from memory. I mean, I started hating the software at that point.

  • Abdul Ghani

he means he is a moron

  • Battel

Xperia Department should be terminated for good and Sony should take a new path with new team .

  • Wilhelm-Bernhard Trometer

Go to gsmarena there is the first photo of sony new flagship a new design

  • Matt

nah, im fine with it , i used about 3 apps on the same time anyways

  • KzX
  • Cortano

Will also close the concept of MM?

  • Velexas

This Xperia Beta is different than the Android Beta, right? The one the Xperia Z3 on Android Nougat has.

  • Sharfeen
