Too bad the fingerprint sensor is disabled in US phones.

  • Rat

    Cause that’s ALL that matters.

  • An Li

So is the sensor hardware still there? In that case, just enable it? Or just buy the international variant

  • mountain

To be honest, I would rather have an x performance, removed the fingerprint sensor, and make it as slim as XA.

What’s the reason to not buy international lol? My Z and Z3 were both international and Sony let me warranty them fine. I mean they would always tell me it may take longer to do work if they have to get parts shipped from overseas but I never found the time frame to be unreasonable or basically same time frame I would assume.

  • Genta Aditya

if it’s an international stock, shouldn’t it has its fingerprint sensor enabled? Afaik only the US stock has it’s fp sensor disabled

  • Kwang Zhee Choo

XA’s price is fine. XP’s one on the other hand…

  • Alvin

Removed fingerprint and increase the price.. Cool

  • jonoave

Depends. I bought an Z3 from Malaysia and it got damaged in Germany, and Sony Germany says my model is not available for warranty and returned it to me. So I have to wait 6 months till I go back to Malaysia to get it fixed under warranty.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

I don’t think it’s slim, It’s just the same size but they have disabled the Finger print sensor. I saw that in Z5 they managed to enable it. I may be wrong.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

I think you can enable it by flashing the ftf file.

  • The One

Good luck buying one of these in an actual store though. The article should clarify that Best Buy will only sell these online and not in their physical stores. This may be Sony’s worst year for sales volumes in the U.S.

  • Raj Singh

You shouldn’t have to do that.

  • Raj Singh

Why would anyone buy a crippled version of this phone and still pay full price? It’s insulting.

  • LiterofCola

or you could also just purchase an international variant

  • LiterofCola

    go international

  • Wolf0491

hmm maybe the US spec and international were similar parts and that one is very different? Who knows that blows.

  • Alvin

    So it is software deactivation?

    But I don’t think so……:(

  • Sadman Khan

    Yes. Flashing other ftf works

  • RockStar2005

I guess if you can locate the fingerprint sensor ftf file or someone who has it ( then you could get the US XP. Sony already FINALLY admitted it too on the US XP website that the US XP DOES HAVE the IP 65/68 water-resistance and dustproof rating, so you’re good there at least.

Prob easier to buy the int’l variant though. Up to you. If you buy int’l know that H+ = 4G. And LTE = 4G LTE.

  • Alvin

Oh okay.. But I think that still wouldn’t solve the problem for some people as not everyone knows what and how to flash (including me)

  • Sadman Khan

All you have to do is google and follow the instructions XD But yeah I get your point. People shouldn’t have to do this

  • Is this the case with the z5 too ?

  • An Li

i actually went to a Best Buy in search of the X series. :(
