Sony Xperia X Compact LeakThe IFA trade show is taking place next week and we are expecting Sony to announce new Xperia devices. We have already seen the Sony F833X, which is likely to have a 5.2-inch display, dual-LED flash and a USB Type-C port. Now, Evan Blass (@evleaks) has revealed a picture of what is purported to be the ‘Xperia X Compact’. Little else is revealed apart from a look of the front of the handset, but we’re eager to see more.

Compact with 5.2″ screen, is it a joke?

  • Shehab Skull

Awesome Move ! Just hoping to have a strong battery ( As Z3c ) .. I also have to mention that their new wallpaper are so creative and fantastic :v ..

About phone’s design it looks similar to Ipod .. maybe because it’s sharp edges

  • Shehab Skull

Displays ain’t everything .. as the leaked picture it really looks compact !

  • Itsarapong Intoum

    Read it carefully…

  • It looks like a compact version of the F833X, not the X…
Probably a memeber of the new Kugo line form Sony

  • SM

    ‘likely to have’

  • “We have already seen the Sony F833X, which is likely to have a 5.2-inch display, dual Led flash and USB Type-C port. “

  • ryq24

Why not just use xa 5″ design, place the finger print scanner either at the front or back and install all the specs of x performance then you got a really good x compact. And price it the same as huawei p9.

  • Looks Great

  • Ilya Panasenko

    oops, my bad. thanks

  • Ilya Panasenko

thanks, I didn’t notice that bit

  • Bezel spotters coming in 3… 2… 1…

  • Akand

Lower bezel is lot bigger than my cute Z5 Compact. Z5 Compact has the best lower bezel.

  • minimaL

I can’t see a fingerprint sensor on the side? Maybe it has something to do with the bigger lower bezel? The lower part looks familiar to the XR leaks. Hope the back hasn’t the same line.

  • Toni_Ai

i don’t know why, but this one remind me w902/

  • Bezels for the win !

Ban the bezel-less bc no place to hold your thumbs , no front facing stereos speakers and usually comes with frustrating home button and cheap capacitive keys … so freaking annoying !!!

  • Battel

    It has Snapdragon 650 !
i’m still waiting Xperia M Ultra with SD652 even though it has been removed from GSMArena page :

  • KarFar

how did you know it has 650? don’t say it’s from that georgian site? (nodar)

  • Nils

In the Xperia X the 650 was pretty good, better than 820 :P

  • Talos the Robot

I think the edges are curved, not sharp.

  • zymo

    Nokia N9 running Android…

  • Battel

  • razorg

    What? :D You can’t be serious….

  • Nils

Same daily life performance, less energy consumption. (X vs X performance)

  • razorg

Sorry but, although I do not deny S650 is actually a good SoC, the thing which made a “Sony Xperia Compact” phone a “Sony Xperia Compact” phone is the inclusion of the most up to date and top of the list flagship SoC. Without this, a “Sony Xperia Compact” phone will not be taken more seriously than a regular mid-range phone (with the wrong notion of “a smaller phone is a weaker phone” unfortunately). If Sony directors have a bit of sanity, they include at least S820 and 3GB RAM minium…

  • dragonsneeze

According to my super scientific calculations XC has 69.5% screen to body ratio. Or I’m totally wrong :D

  • DBS

By that it seems that the Compact is a version of the XZ, not the normal X. Which is great if the XZ does bring a camera with dual tone flash and OIS.

  • DBS

Because a 5″ phone is NOT a Compact. Simple.

  • DBS

    If only… :P

  • DBS

The fingerprint reader is sunk on the size that’s why you can’t see it on a front facing render ;)

  • Ritwick Priyadarshi

How do you know Xperia X compact will have snapdragon 650? Any proof? I believe only the picture of the phone was leaked…correct me if I am wrong.

  • Alvin

    That wallpaper is…… Bad

I hope that is not a stock wallpaper

  • coach

That bottom chin looks a bit bigger than the upper one. I think something went wrong with the render, or something went wrong with the design team at Sony. Still, I’m really happy they are making a compact phone, hope they don’t screw it up this time (I’m looking at you X & X perf) with pricing and specs

  • Alvin

That is just a cropped picture, I think. To fit the phone without leaking much of the details. Sony is forbidding everyone to leak their phone.. Although some people leak the phone so bad lol.

  • mitotsu

totally agree! one of the best SE phones i’ve ever had!!

  • SC

Z3 compact has the best top and bottom bezels out of Z1C,Z5C and now XC. Not asking for no bezels but why make it bigger than it was? Why accept worse?

  • SC

Looks better when I trimmed the bezel off a little. Not perfect but I can imagine it looks a lot more balanced if the bottom bezel was equal to the top. At least it’s not the Moto Z lol

  • azzido

    Looks good,
however I wonder about few thingsso I will wait for some time and read reviews instead of preordering or buying day 1 as:

    1. “Shoot without blurring” – I heard that with Z5 as well, we know how it ended… Maybe they used curved lens finally??? Would be great.
    2. Display improvements? Do we have any? Or still the same LCD? 5.2″ better for me than 5″ from X. I hope for bigger 5.7″ device that will compete with Shamesung Note as well, would be interested in Z1 Ultra successor.
    3. Battery life? I do not care about bigger bezels if only it was used to pack over 3000mAh battery like it was in Z2/Z3. Hoping for it
    4. 4GB of RAM at least? It is a must! Especially considering in Android 7 you will be able to run 2 apps at the same time on screen.
    5. Are the noise cancelling headphones again in the box like it was in the best Z series days?
Mega Bass for Walkman would be nice turn back. Sony is missing some if its brands like Mega Bass or Cyber Shot that would help to advertise its smartphones.
    6. New UI and widgets? Sony constantly decreasing number of widgets but hey, this is 1 of the reasons why we like Android over IOS :( Now even Stamina widget is gone…
    7. No frosted back glass :(
    8. Volume rocker is still too low, I hoped they will fix it finally.

Waiting for it and have huge hopes they will deliver, if not will need to wait till march or buy Shamesung S7 edge / Note :(

  • Alvin

Because it is a cropped picture, that’s why it looks weird

  • Alvin

    Well They look promising…

  • 3_nity

I realy forgot about this phone name. If I’m not wrong, this is a SE W902, right?

  • The One

If this truly is the compact version of the new Xperia XZ, and the Z indicates high-end flagship, then this could finally be the true successor to the compact line that we’ve been waiting for. A fast and reliable fingerprint scanner, plus a chance for dual-tone flash and optical image stabilization, then the only downside about this phone will be the poor volume button placement and likely poor image processing resulting in noisy/soft photos. But I’ll take that over a 5″+ phone any day!

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Hope it’s a 1080p screen with at least 3000+ mAh.
So compact has a 5.2inch display :P I am so happy that they didn’t discontinue this.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Sadly they won’t bring OIS :( We both know how important to have OIS for low light shots.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

This is a sick design man.

  • Exodite

I’m not really looking for an upgrade at the moment, my Z3C will last me a few years more I hope, but there are a few things I dislike about the design.

First, the bottom, and to a lesser extent top, bezels. These really have to be cut down, as that’s an actual hindrance to use as much as it is an aesthetic concern. I’m fine with some bezels on the sides, for the fingerprint sensor and allowing a comfortable grip.

Second I’m not really sold on the metal chassis, if that’s correct. I’m aware that ports are now waterproof but one of the things I’ve enjoyed with the Sony devices is the wireless charging. Sure, maybe we won’t get back the magnetic port of the 3-series and earlier but in that case I’d be happy to see Sony adopt the wireless charging standards.

Unfortunately a metal chassis precludes that from happening.

While metal looks nice it’s unnecessarily heavy and wears poorly. I’d rather see some kind of premium plastic used for the chassis.

  • Stephen

my z5 will be my last ever sony, i switched to sammy and i couldnt be happier
i got the s7 edge and it takes a while to get used to differences, like back button on opposite side
screen is amazingly vibrant compared to z5 which imho was dull, camera is terrific opposed to rather noisy z5

  • AudioAw

    Reminds me of the 720

  • Sir Schlenzalot

Why not develop that design, Sony? Easily possible to do a refresh with actual hardware of that beauty. No fingerprint need, just a good SOC, cam, and 4gb ram. <3

  • Bezels for the win !

your picture proves my point , LOL

how would you hold that sharp aquos in landscape ? it’s just like xperia without the top bezel and it’s missing some of the hardware . and not to mention what pain in the ass is to use that front facing camera .

  • Bezels for the win !

because now sony uses larger camera sensors in that top bezel and charging port is moved from the side in that bottom bezel… maybe :p ?

  • Utsav Shah

    drooling over the design!

  • Bezels for the win !

ok we get it , now pls GTFO from here .

i bet, they still using same 2700 mah battery same as all x family

  • Deads

    He said xa 5″ DESIGN.

  • DBS

5″ means “5 inches” in case you don’t know.
And there’s no such thing as a 5 inches design. So what he said was why not just use the Xperia XA 5 inches design. Making the phone 5 inches, ie, NOT Compact.

  • (NinJer)

Are you serious? no fingerprint needed? you obviously haven’t used one, but once you do, you never want a phone to not have one.
    So fast and reliable.

  • Shane Falco

  • paul_cus

X Compact might be tempting. Let’s see what September brings.

  • Stefan

the fingerprint sensor on my z5 compact is everything else but reliable!

    Is that so?

I shoot low light all the time on my SLR that has no OIS on the 16-35mm. OIS can help, but is not a big loss or as important as you say it is.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Oh great then we know that it won’t do much great for us.
I don’t understand why they’re reducing the capacity of the battery when they can actually increase it and give us proper stamina mode. At least Google’s new battery saver got this option to white-list apps.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Well in low light what is your shutter speed? I guess you didn’t set it to 1 sec? cause If you take an Xperia they always have slower shutter speed when it comes to Low light. Plus it always refocuses the image eventhough when you tap and select the subject you wanna capture. DSLR cameras, you can choose the f-stop then iso levels without losing data.(Specially the newer ones) I own an a7Rii and it’s 5 axis stabilization is stunning and I have taken great shots with it. So you should understand that OIS is kinda must.

    Not for humans, dud.

  • puu

Xperia ZL, still using this phone after 2.5 years

Sorry, I shoot portraits etc and don’t shoot at shutter speeds that low for obvious reasons.

My mistake for applying my usage across the board in a general statement.

OIS, while may help in low light landscape photography, I rather have improvements in the sensors/lens department.
