Xperia XZ Premium on sale in US on 19 June for $800

by XB on 31st May 2017

in Xperia X series

Sony Mobile USA has announced that the Xperia XZ Premium will be available to pre-order from 12 June for $799.99. The phone will be available to pre-order in three colours (Luminous Chrome, Deepsea Black and Bronze Pink) across a number of retailers including Amazon, Best Buy and Fry’s, before shipping on 19 June 2017. As with other unlocked handsets sold in the US, Sony has disabled the fingerprint sensor. However, this is likely to be a software limitation as we have seen with other models.

Sony will also launch pre-orders of the Xperia XA1 Ultra on 12 June, with shipments taking place from 21 June for online stores and 2 July in-store. No price point for the handset was given.

Thanks Diogo!

Still curious to know why rich nations get things cheaper compared to Africa, South America and Southeast Asia

  • LazAndKor

Well, here in Greece (Definitely not a rich nation), the XZ Premium will be available this week for 770 euros and will come with the 300 euro Wireless Headphones as a gift. (Not pre-order). It’s still cheaper than the S8 (~830 euros) and S8+( ~950euros).

  • crazychef83

Do anyone know if we will get pre-order goodies?

  • Vincentius Phang

but Greece benefited by being next to and in the groupies of rich country. While Africa and South East Asia is miles away and any part of rich groupies.

  • shenoy

Soo cheap. Here in India XZS is costing around $800.

  • Raj Singh

Your government imposes tariffs on goods that are imported into your country. Buy it online for a cheaper price and they will still charge duties when it is delivered to you. Brasil is one of the worst offenders.

  • Raj Singh

Why would anyone in the US buy a flagship phone with a disabled fingerprint scanner? Get the international version with the fingerprint scanner enabled for the same price.

  • skrug

Where can one buy it from Greece online from another country?

  • Makiz

    no you can’t…

  • Actman

    Just like Sony’s trend… Overpriced!

  • Yah! Here in Portugal it will be 749€ really cheap. Specially when compared with S8 family. It will be the cheapest flagship this year

  • Little Man

Unlikely according to Sony’s fashion, especially online.

  • monoke

Exactly. If price difference is minimal, might as well import from international vendor. Not only do u get the rom with enabled fingerprint, preorder is available now, warranty is still honored since it is officially sold in the states. Only negative is return cost/issues, wait time if u choose to return.

  • monoke

Yep Sony’s flagship price has always been expensive. To be fair, iphone, sammy, and now pixel is pretty much the same price. Htc, lg and the chinese oems have at least remained reasonably priced. Nothing has changed really.

  • Moisés

Not only taxes thing… It is greed too.
Taxes alone cannot increase price 90 or 100%.

Flagships come 1300 dollars, than one year later they are 800.
Just sell for 800 and keep the price …

  • Moisés

Z5 Premium came for 1450 dollars

The best gift to welcome the summer!

Why paying more for 5-10 minutes of your time to flash an international ROM using flashtool?

For those in the U. S. You can now order the Sony Xperia XZ Premium International Version… Will work with T-mobile, AT&T and other GMS networks… I just ordered mine and will get it Saturday. Just go to http://www.amazon.com and search for Sony Xperia XZ Premium.

  • Charlie Mainelli

XZP is up for pre order for $1000. Shame on Sony for over pricing.

  • 02Yo02

Why are you not posting what I post?

  • dale kana

I’ll wait for the Xperia XZ1. I don’t need such a big phone.

Guys XZ Premium camera is impacted with heavy distortion issue:
    https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-XZ-Premium/XZP-camera-has-serious-distortion-issue/td-p/1226669/highlight/false

Can someone that already have it confirm the issue???

  • Raj Singh

    It’s worth it.

  • Vitali

It doesn’t take 5-10 minites for the avarage person to do that..

  • Moisés

I have seen that on my z3+.. If I take a phote while recording videos.
Only when I do both same time.

  • Lunkz

And I’m just sitting here, and waiting for it to arrive already…

  • Moisés

I read about it… It is about being wider..
Few Z5 owners say the same.
A photographer said on reddit that even cameras can be victims of this.

  • Luís Alberto Pérez

Yes, it does. You only have to read a tutorial before flashing. 5 or 10 minutes more for installing flashtool and the drivers. Another 5 minutes to download the Rom, depending of your Internet connection. 3 years ago I never used flashtool before and it was a very simple process. Just have to do good homework reading the proper tutorial from XDA-Developers.

If you’re selling only a few phones, you better make sure you maximize profits on those few units you’re selling.

Sony Xperia phones generate highest unit profit in Android world

  • ccccc( .).)

but its unfair with sony if youre only going to base your conclusion with price. yeah.. maybe it is expensive. but the features that comes along? plus with the freebies? (depending in your region) you could still consider sony cheaper but with jampacked features compared to others.

  • Manny

May consider purchasing US version if the on-board memory is the same. I’m still enjoying my XZ international version :)

  • monoke

I agree. People see it on a surface level by similar processor, ram amount, build and weigh it with the cheaper brand alternatives, then determine this or that brand is overpriced. They don’t see the distinguishing features (stereo speakers, 4k hdr, slo-mo and so on) that leads oem to set their price point. When u add that to maybe included noise cancelling earphones and such, maybe the price is justified and the consumers just don’t realize it, which is unfair and inaccurate.

I’m also saying the price of sony’s flagship has always been expected to be $700-800 for quite a while regardless of competeting brands. My z3 was $800 even though it kept with previous sd801 for example. In the end, the price may or may not be justified for what your getting. However, it doesn’t mean that it isn’t relatively expensive.

  • Wolf0491

Warranty is indeed honored but it has be shipped back to where it was bought. Sony US would not take my Z3 and told me ship it be fixed in its original market.

No idea why people keep commenting Sony are overpriced without comparing to other popular brand first. Yes, they are expensive, but at least in my region, Sony are not more expensive than Samsung and Apple. So what about those chinese OEM? Yes they are alot cheaper but comes with much less features and no further android upgrade/support (they only update their launcher and call it a day) even though same CPU and “more” ram…(just check the video comparison, 6GB can’t even beat Sony’s 4GB)….that is the differences…

  • monoke

Yep. Totally agree. With Sony, u do get around 2 years of updates and services as their past history has shown. With the chinese oems, although i’m not the most familiar with them, there is really no telling just simply becuz they haven’t been in the game as long so the service may simply not be there yet. So overall service and support should definately be included in the price consideration i agree.

  • monoke

That’s great and it’s what being a smart consumer is all about really. Cuz when it comes down to it, these are all capable devices with top of the line hardware. Just do proper research and read reviews to help your decision and never fall for name brand while saving some money is how I spend on things, not just electronic devices.

I personally am waiting to see if mi mix 2 will blow me away as I really love the first design before I make my next purchase decision. Although it won’t be cheap for me here.

  • monoke

Oh that’s the route I would take myself cuz I would also save a little on shipping. I was more making a suggestion for general consumers who’ve never tinker with their phones and then complain ‘Sony doesn’t include fingerprint scanner for usa? That’s dumb!’

  • monoke

Well the Z3, from what I remember, was only offered from t-mobile and there’s also a cdma variant from Verizon. I’m not sure if Sony US sold the unlocked versions to US market that time. Not sure. Maybe Sony US accepts it this time since it’s officially sold this time around. But anyway, it would be wise to call and check with Sony US. I’m not entirely sure myself to be honest.

I’m in the USA and ordered mine from UK. Only GBP 540 (no VAT for the Yank). Plus GBP 20 for DHL delivery tomorrow. GBP 540 = USD 699. My preorder included free Sony Bluetooth speaker worth about $70.

Its good that 6GB ram in sony xperia XZ premium also…when i recently heard that its preorder start on amazon & infibeam only….but its too costly…..it will come in india 12th june , hope so.

  • razorg

XZ Premium has 4GB ram, not 6GB

  • Roland Hamid

I have the European version I’m using it on T-Mobile only issue that I’m having is the VoLte is not working

  • Nuno

Does anyone know if the Xperia XZ Premium ca be flashed using the Flashtool???? I have downloaded the Rom but i think the flashtool is not compatible with the xz premium or xzs.

  • Nuno

What icon do you see on your XZ Premium LTE or 4G, and where did you import your phone from???
    Thanks.

  • Nuno

    Hello,
Do you know if Flashtool supports the XZ Premium already, i can download the different roms but they wont apply to the flashtool. Not sure it needs to be updated to work with the XZ Premium.
    Thanks.

Sony is either going to have to jump into carriers again, or they need to start including the extended LTE, wifi calling, and VoLTE certificates into their unlocked phones because (and I can’t speak for AT&T but I imagine they’re doing it to) T Mobile keeps reducing their 2G and 3G network to expand the LTE network and my signal is getting worse and worse on my X Performance.

Pretty soon I won’t even be able to make a phone call on my phone, I’ll have to get a non Sony product or stick with the outdated T Mobile Z3

  • Genorok

Sony hasn’t baked in any of the certificates into their unlocked phones yet, to my knowledge. So VoLTE, wifi calling, and extended LTE won’t work with an unlocked Sony device on T Mobile.

    http://www.gizmobolt.com/2017/05/08/how-to-enable-fingerprint-scanner-on-xperia-xzs-us-variant-i-e-sony-g8232/

Here you can see how enable XZs on flashtool. I believe XZP will be something similar. Just need the XZP file to copy and that way flashtool will recognize the device. I don’t know if the file is already available now.

  • lolop

I have an unlocked XZ in the UK with an EE sim card. VoLTE doesn’t work with the generic firmware but if you flash the EE firmware then you can use VoLTE and the ROM comes with the same amount of bloatware. Maybe there is a T Mobile firmware for the X Performance?

  • Shamoy Rahman

    $700 would’ve been a better starting price.

  • Lam Mbang

Is bronze pink color option already sell out there?

  • Genorok

No carrier network ROMs for the US unfortunately

  • johala02

In my region Sony are priced at the level of iPhone and other flagship brands. In europe they had some deals with XZ Premium to. Some nice headphones or a bluetooth speakers bundled. I dont know if they will have same thing in the US market.

  • iia3ezu

If one is paying so much for an Xperia phone, surely it is not too much to ask that it comes with FM radio and an official Xperia Korean language input keyboard… right?
