I’m going to wait to see what comes in my emailbox- signed up for updates from them on this particular device. Maybe a freebie via them that way..or maybe not. Or wait a bit…no hurry.

  • Bob

Why would anyone pre-order a phone without any incentives. I mean it’s not like they’re going to sell out.

  • Aiden M.

Does anyone know if firmware from other markets will be made available for this phone? I got my Z5P shipped internationally and thankfully I haven’t had any problems with it. But when I get this phone, I would feel most comfortable buying it here with a warranty since it’s available in the states now. I want to keep my fingerprint sensor so I’m just curious if the software will appear eventually

  • Genorok

Unfortunately pretty soon the device won’t even work in the US since they still don’t include VoLTE for US carriers. Networks are starting to cut back on the older technologies to expand their LTE

Someone on gsmarena said XZP and U11 are already out of stock on Amazon ( UK and Germany).
I also found pre-sale in Taiwan was a huge success.

  • adibuyono

    Sorry Out of topic..
i would like to ask for the best Sony Xperia XZ Premium case to protect my lovely baby from any form of scratch..
i heard some case (mostly cheap one) is the main culprit of making phone scratched, due to dirt easily get into the gap between phone and case..
any nice recommendation case to protect my baby? :D

  • bigshynepo

“pretty soon the device won’t even work in the US”

That’s bullshit. The XZ Premium does have voLTE and regardless, any phones without voLTE will still continue to work well into the future.

  • iia3ezu

    LOL, $800.

You could get a Samsung Galaxy S8 for less than that. And sometimes if you’re lucky at some stores, Samsung throws in freebies e.g. wireless charger, VR headset, phone case.

And that is why Sony can’t/won’t compete. So don’t complain about dwindling sales numbers.

  • Pentagen

The glass on the front of my Xperia Z3 got slightly loose about two weeks ago. It’s causing the proximity sensor to malfunction (and also undoes the whole “waterproof and dustproof” thing), so I couldn’t put off getting a new phone for much longer.

Since Sony seems to be the only one still making phones with super-sensitive touchscreens (Glove Mode) and the Xperia XZs has terrible battery life, I felt like I had no choice but to pre-order an Xperia XZ Premium, pre-order bonus or not. And the ability to play PlayStation 4 on my phone on my roof is nice too.

Offer phones with unique, compelling features and you can get away with this sort of thing.

I can’t speak for AT&T but I have the X Performance on T Mobile and I’ve gone from 4 bars of 2g/3g at my house to 1 in the last few months. I love Sony phones but I’m afraid I may have to switch carriers or devices here in the future.

And yes, I’m aware my XP has VoLTE built in as well, but it won’t work on US carriers.

    Also,
“the carriers just won’t support the feature on a phone they don’t sell.”
Is bullshit because there are phones out there they don’t sell that have them. The Pixel and Nexus for example. VoLTE on those devices and they weren’t sold directly through the carriers. (The Pixel was sold directly though Verizon but AT&T and T-Mobile still have the VoLTE certificates)

  • Emil Oskarsson

Yes but they are not Sonys main priority :p Maybe 7.1.1 will be the last update for the last z series but I’m hoping Sony will give us Android o for the last z series :) Would be really nice to see :)

  • Emil Oskarsson

Wait and se until October, they will release a compact premium high-end phone then, not a premium mid range like x compact was :) With true flagship specs if the rumours are correct :D

  • Moisés

    Wait IFA…

    XZ1 Compact : 4.6″ HD LCD, Qualcomm 835, 64gb, 4gb, 2800 mAh, 19MP, IP65/68, usb c

    XZ1: 5.2″ FHD, SD835, 64gb, 4gb, 3000 mAh, 19MP

    XZ1 Ultra: 6.2″ 4K, SD835, 4gb, 6gb, 19MP

  • Moisés

If 7.1 is coming. Not even X has 7.1.

  • iia3ezu

Sony, the great camera sensor manufacturer, still can’t ace low light shots in its most expensive flagship phone. LOL.

Either the software (postprocessing) sucks, or Sony did this on purpose to not displace the market share of its point-and-shoot digital cameras.

Once upon a time Samsung phones’ cameras were horrible, but they learnt from their mistake, invested in R&D and improved their product.

    What’s Sony’s excuse?

  • jmaxim917

    Lol

  • jmaxim917

What’s with the dual SIM in the US?

  • RockStar2005

T-Mobile’s the only one it won’t work on. That’s b/c T-Mobile requires that phone OEMs CERTIFY VoLTE (and Wi-Fi Calling) with them, which takes time and costs money. This is to ensure it will work on their network. AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon don’t require this though, so VoLTE will work on their networks. It sux b/c I have T-Mobile and b/c Sony is TOO CHEAP to certify VoLTE, I don’t get it anymore like when I had my locked T-Mobile Z3. So I switched back to HTC again and got the 10, which is an AMAZING phone! Maybe one day Sony will get it’s act together again and certify VoLTE with T-Mo AND sell US Xperia phones with the fingerprint sensor ENABLED! Until then, I’m done with them (I had the Z3 and X Performance).

I AM glad to see the XZ Premium’s battery life is rated so well on Phone Arena. My X Perf’s battery life was awful. Sony needs to do a better job with their audio. They say “Hi-Res”, but the quality isn’t. Just b/c it can process Hi-Res songs doesn’t mean it will sound good. You need a BETTER DAC and better headphone amp (both must be DEDICATED!) to achieve that. Their cameras and now battery life are great, so that’s fine. So just fix audio, certify VoLTE, enable FS, and I would STRONGLY reconsider going back to them! Oh, and consider going 18:9 with the body too!!

  • RockStar2005

I think that’s happening b/c all the carriers are trying to phase out 2G/3G, so what you said makes sense. Less of those two, more of LTE.

Yeah it IS bullshit Genorok. They’re telling us it’s THAT expensive for them to certify VoLTE with T-Mo or enable the FS (see my post right above yours)?!! Like I say in that post, HTC certified the UNLOCKED 10s with T-Mo for VoLTE, so my unlocked 10 IS able to use VoLTE on my T-Mo network, which was a major factor in me switching back to HTC from Sony. If HTC can afford it, then so can Sony. Sony needs to start selling through carriers again. HTC still is but barely. For the 10 yes, but new U 11? Only carrier selling it is Sprint, aka, the worst one! lol

  • RockStar2005

    adibuyono,

When it comes to smartphone cases, there are only TWO I really trust………..Spigen and Ringke. They make the nicest quality CLEAR cases I’ve ever seen. I only buy clear ones so to not hide the looks of the phone. They have other protective features as well that will come in handy.

I don’t see any Spigen ones (yet……that may or may not change), but I DO see some Ringke ones! Comes in 3 different colors (though I ONLY buy clear). Pick a color, then see ALL pics on left side to learn why they are top-of-the-line!

    https://www.amazon.com/Ringke-Protection-Absorption-Technology-Protective/dp/B072M74DYY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1497371879&sr=8-2&keywords=Sony%2BXperia%2BXZ%2BPremium%2Bcase%2Bringke&th=1

  • RockStar2005

    See my reply to adibuyono!

  • Emil Oskarsson

They will get atleast 7.1.1 :p

  • Wooty

Sammy is committed to learn from prior mistakes and they really done lots of improvement all these years, whilst this stupid company is going backwards. Just observe to those pre-installed software that comes with Nougat hitting up their respective devices. Locked and loaded. Meantime for Sony, you are obliged to purchase of their latest overpriced device in order to get just a simple lock screen, a new clock widget and manual focus control. Not to mention others. Right Sony?

  • AudioAw

My Z3 and Z3C suffered the same fate. The phones that Sony released thereafter were all so uninspiring and underwhelming. I’m still waiting till this day for them to go all out and release a a device worthy of being a true Sony flagship. In the meantime, I’ll be sticking with Samsung.

  • Moisés

Who knows … It is taking longer than usual.
X got 7.0 one week after XZ in december.
I guess XZ has 7.1 at least one month.

  • Luis

Save your money and go buy a bomb ass laptop or tablet.

  • Luis

This person said he had no choice. Because buying phones is commanded by dictatorship.

  • Luis

Buy an accidental warranty for the phone. You spend 800 on it, whats another 200. File a claim once a year.

  • JC

Yeah, Ringke is the best one for Xperia phones. I bought my Z5 Premium with a bundled “clear” jelly case, which ended up turning yellow just a couple months in. I then went for a Ringke case and 4 months later it still looks as clear as crystal.

  • Pentagen

The same dictatorship that commands that only Sony make phones that work with gloves.

  • Richard Brutski

You’re saying that like the samsung is a better phone lol

While we’re at it, for $800 you can get a 750p iPhone 7 LOL

Lets not forget how terrible slow the shitstain8 is. Only takes half an hour to open up an app.

  • Pentagen

The Samsung Galaxy S8+ has a suggested retail price of $850. A 32 gig iPhone 7 Plus is $770 and one with 128 gigabytes of storage is $870.

Price is not the issue. Sony Mobile can’t compete because it isn’t willing to spend money promoting its products in the United States and getting U.S. carriers to carry them.

Here is a better comparison https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YutAR9EhEXk

  • Bloobat

Ahh I had the ringke fusion for my z3 but the clear material discolured quite quickly and ended up looking bad. I bought another and same happened again, also dust and grit seems to get in the case easily and presses into phone materials :(

  • RockStar2005

Hmmm. I never had that issue, at least that I’d noticed.

I usually get the Hybrid Fusion Clear cases. You?

  • Bloobat

Yeh I got that exact one for the Z3. I was really happy with it at the start but yeh over time it discoloured and the back of case got scratched from the inside due to grit and dust getting in. I do carry phone in pocket most of the time so that’s where grit and stuff came from.

It gets in around the camera hole I think but not 100% sure.

  • RockStar2005

Wow. I dunno man. I had my Z3 for like a year and a half and I don’t recall any issues. Maybe it’s a climate/weather thing?? Not sure.

  • Bloobat

Mmmn Yeh maybe, I’ll probs try the fusion again for the xz premium as there isn’t much choice atm but yeh as the sides of phone are made of nylon (plastic) I’m worried about grit getting in the sides and marking the nylon!

Remember there was a German brand who do bumpers that screw on with felt lining inside so may try find one of them

  • RockStar2005

Hopefully you’ll have better luck this time! lol

Yeah I know. I was just talkin’ to Moises about that. I said I hope in the future they start making the sides metal too, AND back. Enough with the glass already. And plastic/nylon/rubber……enough! The corners…..MAYBE rubber. MAYBE. But not entire edges/sides.

No, never heard of that or them. Send a link.

  • Emil Oskarsson

I have the x performance and I have been using the 7.1.1 update for quite a while now, strange that the Xperia x and x compact haven’t gotten updated to 7.1.1 yet :s

  • Moisés

    Samsung uses higher E.V.
It is not mainly the f1.7.

My mom has a Gran Prime, I had to low E.V to – 0.5 because at 0 photos were coming out too bright.
On my z3+, not even if I set + 1.3, photos get completely white that way.

Many people like Samsung photos because of their light and warm colors.

  • Moisés

    About metal phones ….

X, X Perf and XZ have plastic frame to help with signal.
    Also to decrease SAR.

SAR is higher when body is full metal. Glass has much lower.

  • Moisés

Sony sells case on their website.
Here Sony had clear cover for XA and X.

I do not buy case for my phones, so can’t say if it is good quality.
My z3+ survived two falls. From couch and bed, both times rear glass touched ground. It is not broken.

  • RockStar2005

Yeah I remember reading about that. But I dunno, I have the HTC 10 which is ALL aluminum, and I get great reception with it typically.

Hmm I didn’t know that. So get cancer or have a cooler looking phone?! lol

  • Actman

    Clap, clap!

  • Mars

My eyes see the same results for the camera test in the review you posted…

  • adibuyono

    Thanks everyone..
I think i will try ringke since everyone talk about it so much..

Btw, i have do googling and found out mobilefun is suggesting olixar and roxfit.. but yet they say roxfit is better than olixar..
Is there anyone who ever try roxfit brand?
I saw their webpage and seems like they only produce high quality sony xperia case..
Wonder if roxfit is better than ringke..

  • jatin rajput

when i will get android 7 update for sony xa ultra dual

  • RockStar2005

    Yeah give it a try!

    YW!!

  • MrWalker1000

actually for once its not Sony’s fault they are not being stupid this time its a verizon deal/contract issue which will expire in 2018.

once this happens Sony will enable all those and sell their phones through US carriers which will be their most important chance to grab market share. They can’t fuck up this small timing window when they come back.

Which is why I think they are waiting for bigger improvments in 2018 such as new JDI oled panels for their smartphones among other innovations.

btw xz premium is always on 4k .

  • MrWalker1000

have you used the s8 btw?

but yeah i think xz premium killed the competition. oncethe verizon deal is over with Sony can’t fuck that chance up. They have to make their best phones they can, and then advertise it on TV’s in the US and on US carriers to raise recognition.

  • MrWalker1000

i have this same issue. and on top of that i dropped my z3c and it shattered.

I dont have money for XZ premium but I will have to buy a screen replacement and get it rapaired. still a good tphone though and ahead of its time.

  • Muhammad Najmi Mohd Amir

Let them be, they cant accept the truth about the camera performance. Plus with distortion issues too.

  • RockStar2005

    MrWalker,

I am VERY interested in your post.

So let me get this straight, the reason why Sony is SEEMINGLY being cheap as F is b/c of a contract limitation issue that expires on January 1st, 2018?!!!!! And so in 2018 they will begin offering a fully functional FS AND VoLTE in the US (including certifying with T-Mobile)?!! Please confirm that EXACT date, and how did you find this out?!!!!!

Why was this information never publicly released before?!

I would STRONGLY consider going back to Sony if what you said was true. I would hope they’d upgrade their audio quality as well to match my current HTC 10’s (which is STELLAR), but if they keep making phones like the XZ Premium with EXCELLENT battery life (per Phone Arena), then I will very likely go back. I would also hope they’d go with a metal-backed or metal-bodied phone too. Enough with the glass & plastic! I love my 10 but the battery life is HARDLY any better than my previous Xperia X Performance’s was. I guess I could go back to using a portable amp/DAC again if need be.

OLED in 2018? Ok. Just as long as the display is NOT oversaturated like SamDUNG’s is! lol

Always on 4K? Really? Please also explain where you found that out.

    Please answer ALL questions!

    You da man! lol

  • MrWalker1000

I don’t have exact information on this I heard from someone else that the Verizon contract is due in 2018 which means fingerprint scanner will work on US as well as actually having their phones sell in 2018 through carriers. This isn’t 100 percent though… but its very likely this is a Verizon issue with the z4 model which they pulled out of and had Verizon screw up. this is pretty likely if you ask me.

Second, the 4k screen is always on according to tech radar and phonearena or gsm. IT does not render 4k like the z5 premium according to them.

HTC has so much potential they terrible use of space and their removal of the headphone jack kills it for me. I would buy htc11 over iPhone 7 don’t get me wrong , but they make some dumb moves even though u11 is an impressive phone.

THe XZ premium is the best phone sony has released that has actually strived to make improvements since the z3.

Also, OLED is likely to come out in 2018. it will not be Samsung technology, it will OLED made in japan under JDI technology it will be a different beast from Samsung no pentile arrangement bullcrap. It will be Japanese technology researched by JDi and laboratory. The first iteration might not be perfect but I’m interesting in sony ifa 2017 for a smaller handset since I don’t like phablet xz premium. and if they don’t come to the US once again I hope they advertise and fix all their screw-ups.

  • RockStar2005

    VERY interesting MrWalker!!!!!!!!

So all this time it’s been because of Verizon that the U.S. Xperia phones didn’t get a fingerprint scanner AND VoLTE certification with T-Mobile?!!

Well see the Z4 thing I blame on Sony, NOT Verizon. It’s Sony’s fault for releasing TWO flagships OF THE SAME MODEL twice a year, which I will always say is dumb. I don’t care what their Japanese customers said in some survey…………selling the SAME MODEL flagship twice a year is a waste of money. You don’t even get excited for the new one b/c the last one is only about 6 mos old! lol They need to stop doing that. But yeah, Z5 release got TOO close and so Verizon said F the Z4. I don’t blame them. I would’ve done the same thing. But I had NO idea there was a contract in place that’s been keeping Sony Mobile’s hands tied. I REALLY hope everything you’re saying turns out to be true. It will make a BIG difference for Sony Mobile here in the U.S. if it is. Their Xperia sales have plummeted since they stopped selling through carriers, and it was only T-Mobile and Verizon. No AT&T or Sprint.

That’s incredible!!!! Phone Arena gave the phone an “Excellent” battery life rating, and that’s even with the 4K always being on too then! Insanity! lol

Yeah, it sure sounds like it! Esp with regards to battery life vs. the Z3. I agree there that it’s been the best so far in terms of improvements since the Z3.

NOT like Samsung’s? Nice! lol Yeah I don’t like phablets either. Yes, advertise and fix your screw-ups. Perfectly said.
