Sony will be holding its IFA 2017 press conference on Thursday 31 August at 13:00 CEST. Sony has traditionally had a presence at the IFA tradeshow for a number of years now, announcing new hardware every time.

This year, we are expecting to see at least new two Xperia devices make an appearance, most likely flagships. So, mark your diaries, and we’ll continue to bring you any credible rumours ahead of the event.

Thanks Sasa!

    Probably the same design. :/

  • Zsolt Zsolt

Yeah, i hope. Write this on my xz.

  • Juan Carlos

    Source or are you dreaming?

  • KarFar

a georgian website ( that gets his info from Weibo (highly unreliable)

  • bububu

Really hoping for a new Xperia Compact phone :)

  • KarFar

    Realistic guess:
    XZ1: 5.2″ 1080p, 4GB RAM, SD835, 3000mAh, Motion Eye.
    XZ1 Compact: 4.6″ 720p, 4GB RAM, SD 835, 2700mAh, Motion Eye.

Stop spreading Nodar’s bull$hit spec lists rumors on every tech blog. While it can be fun to read it sometimes on the esato’s website it’s getting annoying with your spem like comments on pretty much every tech sites.

Share your info with us if you are sure about your info other stop spreading false specs it gives false, unrealistic hope to people.

  • PoweredBySony

Hope they will release a new version of the xz premium but with less bezels

  • LazAndKor

I wonder if the new Xperias do come with the full pixel continuous shooting, would the XZP be able to also get this feature? About the rumored 3d pictures, wouldn’t that require dual cameras? (The Nintendo 3ds has dual from cameras and can take 3d pictures).
Also, on the Sony presentation a while a go,the one where Sony changed their plans on the release of phones, they had the XZP at the top of the chart and a bit below it were the 2 bubbles with the soon to be released phones and a bit lower than that the XZs. Could they add features from the soon to be released phones to the XZP? I mean, could they already update the Motion Eye camera with newer hardware? Software wise, I hope of there is something new, they will add that to the XZP.

  • Nick Paschalidis

There is always some evolution when it comes to the design.Usually a small one.But with the bezeless trend going on,I think Sony will announce something fresh.

  • Santos

That rumors are fake, the display spec is fake, STD-OLED for a smartphone with BT.2020 at 80%, its just ridiculous. STD-OLED is for the movie industry or professional use, and these people belive that Sony will use it on a smartphone, it’s a fantasy

  • Moisés

The leaker said 90% of his info on XZ1 are right.

  • Moisés

Nodar said his source is 90% sure of XZ1 specs.

  • Moisés

Most of things he posted about MWC phones were right.

  • Svnjay

    They won’t.

  • JC

Then it wouldn’t be an XZ Premium, would it?

  • owl

Please, pretty please, I want a replacement for my Z3 Tablet Compact!

  • DBS

Since they’re “discontinuing premium standard” and focusing on “value-added flagships”, maybe it’s time to see the return of the Z series.

After all, the Z series was about “value-added flagships” in Sony’s own words, and the X line was supposed to replace that.

    So…here’s to the Z6 and Z6 Compact.

  • DBS

There’s no such thing as the Qualcomm snapdragon 836. Those are just made-up rumours ;)
The next flagship SoC from Qualcomm will be the 845 and apparently Qualcomm is already working with OEMs for it to be used in 2018 flagships.

  • Biancoceleste

Me too. A sub 5″ phone with top hardware and waterproofing has been lacking since the Z5C.

  • Itsarapong Intoum

Bullshit Qualcomm dac, no headphone amp… Funny Distortion Camera.

    What else ?

  • Emil Oskarsson

Judging by the rumours and Sonys choice to kill of the premium mid range of phones (like the Xperia x and x compact) we will actually see a premium high end compact phone this fall. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for a xz1 compact with s835/836 4GB of ram, 2700-2800mAh battery, 64GB ufs 2.1 storage, front facing speakers, small but not too small bezels like on the z3c and a FHD 4.6 display :D

  • Conan

sign me the hell up for the XZ1 compact. i am due a new phone this year and unless the next round of sony phones is catastrophic i will be on board.

  • Junior Rider

i just hope so for those specs but may kill ZX Premiums sale if that would be the real specs.

  • Francis Troy Fabrigas

  • Wiching

really hope for Xperia X Ultra 21:9 phone. love with this phone sure will get it.

  • S.H.U.R.O. And as always, after the exhibition, we will have to wait a half to two months..

  • Rohit Patil

    With a new design….really something like Arc…!! :-)

  • S.H.U.R.O.

And as always, after the exhibition, we will have to wait a half to two months..

  • fried_egg

My Z5 was pre-ordered on the same day it was shown off at IFA, my Z1 was pre-ordered on the same day as it was shown off at the IFA… they were both september shows and released in october. EE hopefully will be launch partner again and open the pre-order on show day… and as the show is “early” lets hope the phones start shipping September…. after all the XZs was NOT picked up by the networks in places like the UK… there isn’t a “Z3+ just launched issue” this time

  • fried_egg

the “premium” is their spring size phone. the autumn release is the Z5 size… (the XZs was not a global launch but a specific markets that like 6 month upgrades handset)

  • exFictitiouZ

It’s around this week and the next week that Xperia XA1 Ultra gets released in many regions. If Sony decides to release an Ultra phone next two months, I’d be pretty upset. (I’ve been waiting for a Z Ultra replacement for almost four years now)

  • Stefanos Stylianou

I will pre order everything you just said on day one!!

  • Stefanos Stylianou

as long as the Compact is waterproof and has an 835 I am buying it!
REALLY hopping for funky colours as well, I’m still loving my lime Z1 Compact

  • azzido

Please give us new 12″ tablet ideally running Windows 10! With dedicated great keyboard.

New wearables would be also welcomed, like new rounded SmartWatch, SmartBand3 etc.

  • azzido

I would also love to see new dedicated QX camera that I could mount on my XZ Premium back.

The problem with previous was there was 3 of them and one was great with optical zoom, second with picture quality, you couldn’t have both! We need only 1 QX camera that have both Sony. Ideally:

    1″ sensor
    Great optical zoom
    4K 60fps video recording
    Good battery life.

    And I am sold!!!

  • Could sony bring in some hope for their loyal xperia fans ? We will have to wait and see

  • owl

judging by the comments here, there really is a huge demand for a premium compact! i’m using Z1C myself, about time too

  • Kadek
  • Geraldinetrudder

my best friend’s mother gets $82 an hour on the internet and she has been unemployed for 4 months but last month her pay-check was $20229 working on the internet for four hours each day. ➤ go here to this➤ site

  • More like XZ1 will have 4K display with 1080p resolution, just like XZ Premium.
Than Compact can have normal 1080p one and still be little “smaller” in that than older sister.

  • New QX would be great, but with support for older phones too (Android 5.x+, so all flagship since Z would be included).

  • +1 for XZ1 Ultra (or something similar) would be great thing. Right now there is nothing I could change my ZU for. Have Z2, but that’s not the same, it’s too small. And XA and XA1 are not flagships even when they are comparable/better than ZU.

  • XZ1 Ultra 6,4″, but leave 16:9. Others are nonstandard, so videos won’t look good…
And it should be 4k with 1080p when full resolution is not needed.

  • There is 820 and 821, there was 800 and 801, so it seems possible.

810 was mistake, so that’s why they didn’t make 811.

  • Anyone can say some numbers. When watching weather channels they says 95-98%, coz that way they can always say that “there was slight chance for mistake, thats why we didn;t give 100%”.

As long as there is no 100% possibility for something it’s not right.

  • DBS

The Z1, Z3 and Z5 Compacts always outsold the “normal” sized versions so yeah, there is definitely a market for those phones (the iPhone SE is also extremely popular).

Hopefully Sony finally fixes all the screen and camera shortcomings Xperia have had for years.

  • DBS

The QX lenses were a flop. They were abstractly a good idea but implementation was poor and most people simply didn’t want to carry an extra lens around.

So I’m afraid you won’t be getting your wish :/

  • Владимир Павлов

I just got x compact a few months ago and in general am very pleased.
Upgraded from xperia z that still works.
Here are my dream Sony IFA announcements.
    1) Z5 or X or XZ tablet. (11”)Waterproof, great battery life and decent camera
    2) Xperia XZ1. 5,1″, little smaller bezels, new snapdragon, same 960fps cam.
    3) Xperia XZ1 compact. Like XZ1 but 4,6-4,7″
    4) Go berserk on marketing Sell bundles of PS4/Xperia/Exclusive content
    5) PUBLICITY. I haven’t seen a single Xperia ad on TV or YouTube or magazine.

  • Snorky112

you mean 3 and a half months

  • azzido

If they would improve it in a way I mentioned and deliver the quality I bet it would sell well.

  • DBS

I doubt it. Just for one simple reason: people don’t want to carry add-on’s to the phone.

Sony would have to overprice them to no end to at least make them profitable since those of us who would buy them would be very few.

I’d rather they spend the money and efforts in actually putting good cameras on their phones.

  • azzido

Putting good cameras in their phones, do you still believe this after so many years?

  • DBS

Well, as they say, hope springs eternal…
