Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact – Check out a few more pics ahead of IFA 2017

by XB on 30th August 2017

in Rumours

Sony Mobile is expected to announce two flagship devices – the Xperia XZ1 (G84XX) and Xperia XZ1 Compact (G83XX) – along with a mid-range device (G34XX) with rear-mounted fingerprint sensor at its IFA 2017 press conference tomorrow. While we haven’t seen any press pics of its mid-ranger, we have already seen a lot of the Xperia XZ1 and the XZ1 Compact previously. However, if that’s not enough, then you can check out a few more pics below of Sony’s upcoming flagships.

Roland Quandt, who previously revealed some images of the Xperia XZ1, has given some additional details on specs of the Xperia XZ1. This includes 7.4mm thickness (XZs is 8.1mm), weight of 156 grams, a 5.2-inch 1080p HDR display and, disappointingly, a 2700mAh battery (XZs has a 2900 mAh battery). Maybe Sony feels that the optimisations brought by the Snapdragon 835 chipset, allow it to use a smaller battery, but we certainly wouldn’t have minded extra thickness for a beefier battery. We’ll bring you the full details tomorrow.

Thanks Lis and Moises!

  • Sony you love I

Does the Compact front facing camera lense look big , or is it just me?

  • Spontex

C’est une véritable honte de nous proposer exactement le même physique que l’année dernière (XZ et XC).

  • Spontex

Me too. But don’t expect to see a Compact with better spec than the standard…

  • Sony you love I

Possibly a lower MP Front Facing Camera, but with a wider lense?

  • Yes! And the compact doesn´t have the sensor next to NFC logo, like on XZ1

  • leaker said 8MP front camera for the compact, so , yes, a little worse…

  • zymo

    There is a rumor about a XZ1 Ultra with a 6.2″ display.
    Specs
    Sd835
    4gb ram
    128gb storage
    19mp cam

  • Ryuzaki Raiga

    sony goes back to 2013

  • DBS

Judging by the washed out colours on the screen it looks like they’ll continue with the crappy LCDs so… No, thanks. Next.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Take it with a grain of salt :P

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Tomorrow? Is the event happening tomorrow?

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Yea could’ve kept 2900mAh. With that and SD835 it would be perfect match.

  • amnesia

    XZ1 – 2700mAh !!!! (S8 – 3000; U11 – 3000; G6 – 3000; OP5 – 3300) I HATE SONY!

    XZ1c – no UFS, no HDR display, no 2700mAh (z5c, xc – 2700mAh), and 650 euro?!Bullshit !

  • amnesia

    yes

  • SONY only

    *G6 3300 not 3000

  • SONY only

Sony will be die after release this shit …

  • BGDoesGaming

this is the end of sony…. i might just pick up a iphone 8 or lg v30 after using sony phones for almost 11 fucking years!!!

  • Rohit Patil

Most disappointing flagships since the day @xperiaBlog was formed. Was expecting a new design at least. Been waiting for years now….!!

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

    what time?

  • SONY only

    What the fuck !!!

    Xperia XZ1 = 7.4mm = 2700mAh

    Xperia Z3 Plus = 6.9mm = 2930mAh

  • BGDoesGaming

and the fucking bezeles have gone bigger! useless cunts at sony needs to be taught a lesson.

  • Rohit Patil

@Disqus_sthjsrfhe4hofs:disqus Time to change your name mate :-P

  • BGDoesGaming

im so dam pissed right now man…. massive bezels aside 2700mah battery?!!! really sony? people we need to send sony a message that we will not be nickel and dimed by them… do not buy or upgrade to these crappy phones, if you must…. just buy the premium or something else or sony wont change.

  • amnesia
  • SONY only

I will not change my name because i see Xperia XZ Premium is the best phone in the market now .

    But XZ1 is shit !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • amnesia

    XZ2 – 2400 mAh and MORE bezzels

  • Jadranko Pavlotić

Wtf Sony, 2700?? Really, from a battery powerhouses Z2,Z3… to this :(((

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

    Thanks brother :)

  • KarFar

So IFA 2017 to be even more disappointing than MWC 2016….

  • hansip

It does makes sense when the 3200mah on XZ Premium can push it for a day with 4K screen, considering the 820 is a bit of power hog with the X Performance and its 2700 mah (810 < 820 << 835 in terms of power ofc). 2700mah with FHD and 835 should be able to pull respectable number, just like how XA1 Ultra can do a 6 inch with 2700mah.

But we should calm our tities first. it's still a rumour though. We should go bashing Sony again tomorrow if indeed its true. ;)

  • Lorenz Weyer

So nothing new in camera department? No OIS or EIS for stills, no bigger pixels, no f1.8 or better, no real manual mode. Why? WHY?

  • Toh Ler Kang

I always hope all the leaks are fake.
Sony, please prove that I’m correct.

  • Emil Oskarsson

Xz premium and xz1 compact are the phones you will go for when buying a Sony phone, not xzs or xz1 :)

  • Emil Oskarsson

Sonys lcds are among the best out there so what are you talking about? XD it’s not z1 we are talking about

  • H-R-K

Whats the difference between XZs and XZ1?

  • Francis Troy Fabrigas

Considering the efficiency of SD835, I don’t see 2700mAh battery for a 5.2″ 1080p HDR IPS LCD display to be lacking, given that the 5.5″ 4K HDR IPS LCD display of the XZ Premium with 3230mAh lasts quite well compared to phones with less sharper displays.

But they need to listen now.
I’ve skipped so many Sony phones because of weak audio, both internally and externally, and I wish I won’t be again this time.
Bezels need to shrink some surface, or justify them with the loudest, clearest, & best speaker on a smartphone and/or the best rear and front cameras out of all smartphones (in every situation where it trumps all other competing devices even in low light shooting – what a dream lol).

Also how about paying royalties for the Fingerprint Scanner?
If you don’t have the profit to pay for it, then I suggest to take down your mobile division first and realize the demands of the market consumers, and do the right things.
I used to adore Sony’s quality, but with so many other options, even Chinese devices, that offer nearly the same quality as a Sony product counterpart for more than half the price of that counterpart, I just don’t see them really excelling at anything.
Remember how overpriced was the Xperia X when it was launched? That thing nearly made me leave Sony, but because of my love for this brand, I gave them another chance, and the announcement of the XZ gave me the thought that there’s still a chance that Sony will change for the better.
Then at MWC 2017, the XZ Premium gave me the thought that they’re actually realizing everything now and that they’re about to go back to their game back in the Z3 days, and even the mid range XA1 was super impressive for its price, sans fingerprint reader and 1080p display.

This XZ1 just lacks enough changes for one to consider getting it.
The XZ Premium’s going to lower in price, which makes it a far better deal than this.
I wish that 2700mAh isn’t true and that the rumored 3000mAh or more will be.
I don’t have problems with the XZ1 Compact, as it sounds like the proper compact flagship to succeed the Z5 Compact, so I’ll be holding my breath for the possible positive outcomes tomorrow.

I’m half excited and half worried for what will be brought by Sony Mobile tomorrow.
    Best of luck to them.

  • amnesia

ufs, hrd display and -200mAh battery

  • Itsarapong Intoum

XZ1c with no UFS ? Where is your information come from ?

  • Prince Mensah

Looks like Sony is digging it’s own grave if these rumours are true….smh!! R.I.P. Sony….I just hope the rumours aren’t true…

  • Alvin

What a joke. 2700 mAh for a late 2017 flagship? I’d give up thinness of a phone rather than battery. I can understand a 9 mm phone with great battery but not this.

  • Alvin

    Not to mention Z3 = 7.3 mm = 3200 mAh

  • Over two years since I started visiting this blog, and when I bought Xperia Z5. My primarily compliants were no DNG support and no full manual mode.
And I got reply from majority visitors of this blog like, you dont need dng support, nor full manual mode, no one use that, go and buy dslr and such a thing.

I grew up with Sony and Nokia, mostly i am fanboy of Nokia (symbian- good ol´ days), but when I am buying new phone, the price is what I look primarily.

I had Lumia 1020, which was really camera perfomer, event now, its still good camera phone, then I got Z5, for cheap price I would say. I got it from my carrier in Bosnia, paying like 15€ per month. I love this phone, even with SD810 cpu, but the camera.
Now I rarely open the camera on Z5, photos are not sharp, no manual mode, so shoting pics at night with slower shutter speed are impossible. Thanks to Sony, even the new flagships XZ Premium or this Xz1 have up to 2 seconds I think.

For now Nokia 8 seems way to go for me, I watch Btekt on YT, and so far I like Nokia 8, even the price is nice.

Camera2 api i fully implemented, so no problems with what I sad above.

  • Alvin

Their screen looks great. It’s just that these phones are disappointing

  • Looking trough history, From Xperia Z to Z5, we havent seen much design changes, the same will be from X perfomance to the next 2-3 years.

  • Abrar Zahin Shahriar

No single billet aluminium unibody, no OLED, no bezel less design, 2700 mAh, sharp hard to hold corners, nav buttons that eat up a chunk of the screen so you are not even getting 16:9, etc, etc. Sony should close down Sony Mobile Communications Inc. subsidiary. It is doing the Sony brand more harm than good.

  • DBS

Sorry but I don’t agree. LCD screens haven’t looked great since 2012. It’s 2017, if they’re not moving to AMOLED yet, they’re outdated and behind the competition.

  • DBS

Yes and for 2013 they’d be just fine. It’s 2017 though. And they’re still not moving to the superior AMOLED when even the always-late-to-everything-Apple is doing it.
I will simply not pay a flagship price for a phone with the screen of a -200€ phone. Sony has to step up their game. They’ve already lost pretty much everything that made their phones unique. Then again, they continue to insist on the ridiculous 6 months release cycle so what can one expect…

  • ZicmA Holy

    Crappy AMOLED dot burning.

  • DBS

Never saw a single burnt in AMOLED display. Neither on my phones nor anyone elses. And I’ve used them since 2013. Your argument is moot.

  • Alex Norris
  • Night Guy

Does sony mobile want ppl think their optimization on battery life is brilliant? Then they should keep 2900 mah and improving their battery life with software. Guess they dont want to be top in battery life again.

  • Moisés

    Z3 = 3100
    Z2= 3200

  • Moisés

XZ1c may have HDR screen and ufs2.1 too

  • Moisés

    XZ Premium has 138% sRGB.
Only 3% less than S8’s amoled.
Sony adds Quantum dots to LCD.

  • DBS

It still doesn’t make LCD better. Still inferior valued. AND even with sRGB close, the Premium can’t display proper blacks. So, again, LCD is worse than AMOLED, no matter how hard you try to twist it.

(By the way…it’ll be interesting to know how the XZP screen stacks up against the Note 8)

  • Alvin

    Thanks for the correction

  • Moisés

What XZ1 has better than XZs.

    – metal body
    – Ufs2.1
    – Cpu 835
    – HDR screen
    – 3D creator
    – Single/dual 64GB
    – BT 5.0
    – Better QC.
    – Probably android 8 out of box

This is what I know, might be more stuff

  • Sokin

Dude, I don’t know what you do wrong. I have z5 compact and the camera is still amazing. My gf has iphone 7 and we both take pictures and when I compare the same scenery in my pc, I see much more detail and colors in my z5.
I started believing comparisons in the internet but after I had those phones in my hands and checked the pictures on my own, my view changed completely

  • Moisés

13MP is 1/3″ . It is harder to fit in.
    X Compact has 5MP selfie .
I’d like to see the 13, but is complicated.

  • Mohammed Al-Bakhbakhi

i’ve been loyal, buying at least an Xperia flagship a year since 2013 but come on now, they should’ve had a new design two years ago as most flagships did, but i kept telling myself “they’re holding back and they’re gonna go big!” or something. 2018 is upon and nothing has changed.
this would’ve been impressive back in 2014, but doesn’t cut it today. I’m getting the Note8 i guess.

  • Wolf0491

Everyone complaining about the design but personally I am glad they still use it.

  • Vjekoslav Andric

Really, Sony doesnt make extravagant changes to design, but keeps making subtle changes that make its XZ1 look really superb, like a mini robot in the hand. Its really a classy super cool minimalistic tech design.

  • roeshak

    Xzp best phone? Fanboy much?

  • dragonsneeze

I’m in love with the blue-green color of the compact.

  • roeshak

Can read a lot of disappointed comments from users below. Can’t say it’s not understandable but I’m surprised people are still animated about stuff like this. It’s been clear to me since 2015 that Sony gave up competing. That’s why I moved to the s7e last year and now rocking the s8+. The xperia camera drove me away. Just got fed up of the poor noisy blurry lowlight and night shots. Sony been doing things it’s own way for a few years now for those who subscribe to that sort of thing. To all those waiting for Sony to improve, my advice is stop waiting and move on.

  • Alex Norris

I`m predicted this in the far 14th year. But the ardent fans did not understand this, because they was blind .

  • BIMMERFAN

That`s all innovations? It`s small update, but not seriously for new flagship phone

  • BIMMERFAN

    LOL

  • roeshak

Well it’s not always easy separating from a long standing lover lol! For me it’s been clear for some time starting with the z3 from late 2014. There’ll always be those who point to the z5p and xzp but even those were not very competitive. Xzp has the 4k display but it’s more numbers than anything else. Aside from that it is still a fairly underwhelming device. I just don’t think Sony mobile have the resources to compete in what is a very competitive arena. TBH Sony in general aren’t great at competing. They only seem to do well in segments where they have little competition. Sony imaging and Sony PlayStation are two classic examples. Not much competition there so they thrive.

  • Achu kumar

I dont have XZs here, so all comes to pricing for me, if they are going to launch inbetween 2000-2100 AED fine for me, if not XZ premium is worth putting extra few 100s. really hope they give XZ1 the battery capacity of XZs at least.

  • Moisés
  • Emil Oskarsson

Amoled is not superior, in fact lcd are. You know why? Because there are still burn ins on Amoled screens and they can’t show clear white either…. So no the day when all the drawbacks are gone with Amoled sure I would like to see Sony move from lcd. But that is still far away in the future..

  • Moisés

    Not saying it is better.
But there are good LCDs out there.
I doubt if you watch a movie on XZP and Pixel XL, images on Pixel will be better for example.

Both have good and bad points.

They can delay but cant keep oled from burning in. Everything organic has expiration date.
    Mainly blue subpixels…

  • Moisés

Everything on S8 and G6 were not new either.
    Nobody is doing new stuff.

  • Gyuracell

wow, I just love the look of the Compact, I don’t even mind the plastic housing

  • azzido

    XZ1 Ultra is coming:
    https://www.gsmmaniak.pl/742672/sony-xperia-xz1-ultra-g8541-gfxbench/

    Create a news about it.

  • azzido

    2700mAh battery haha!
    Good luck sony, good luck!

  • azzido

And then I consider metal as step back and definitely smaller battery that will wipe out potential battery benefit that snap 835 woyld bring…
They are back to tbe past, abyss between them and competirion for end of 2017 will be even bigger (Note 8, iPhone 8, LG V30).

    ABYSS.

  • azzido

Upvote if you agree that sorry mobile is led by brainless monkey.

  • azzido

Plastic, giant bezels and distortion out of the box ;)

    What a crap…

  • Moisés
  • azzido

Same here, still just hoping that maybe they will show new tablet ideally running windows 8, if not will be switching the brand as not only nothing interesting here and constant software degradation, but now also battery degradation included…

Someone there should be fired just after tomorrow’s presentation.

  • azzido

And this is inline with they roadmap where the main goal is to close this division, they are getting closer and closer :)

  • azzido

Yeah, now the regular phone will have crap battery size of the conpact no matter it is fat princess with huge bezels now.

    Engineerig flop.

  • Moisés

I feel frustated too. But lets wait tests.
A website of my country has a good battery test.
XA1 Ultra achieved more than 7h SoT with 16nm Helio P20 and 2700 mAh.
XA1 a bit more than 7h too. About 30% better than XA.

  • Santos

Thanks to the new design trilayer for heating

  • azzido

Somehow I never use sRGB mode on my “premium different way” as this mode looms crappy so I do not care. Only normal or saturated mode as it is saturated to a degree, not oversaturated like galaxy s2 that can destroy your eyes :D

  • azzido

Lcd has expiration date as well.

  • azzido

Thanks, your comment is just judging my decision to move from sony and “premium different way” will be rather my last sony device as there are no signs for improvement, just constant software reduction and downgrade, bad low light pics, no OIS and most importantly users are abandoned with abnormal distortion where sorry does not want to provide the fix. On top of it we can see we can count on same boring UI, same booring design since first Z and now even battery decrease…

Definitelt abandoning the ship, just waiting what iPhone and V30 will show. Pixel would be fine as well but it just looks ugly, especially back.

  • azzido

    New Ultra is coming.

  • azzido

Yes and then when you will continue the battery size they you will see no improvemwnt everyone is expecting. They should rather stay with the same battery size so everyone would benefit from longer battery life. Now everyone will suffer from worse battery or will get no improvement in best case scenario. This is not what people expect. Laughably, it is fatter :D

    Fat princess is coming.
    Piggy Pink color please :p

  • azzido

4gigs of ram where competition is coming with 6 at this size and Q4 2017…

  • azzido

Haha this low end has bigger battery than “premium in a different way” :D
OMG… They couldn’t fuck this up more.

  • azzido

There’s also iPhone 8 and V30 to consider as well. V30 may be the winner for photography, sorry will probably again come with their known distortion, crappy g lenses and no OIS.

  • azzido

Agree, due to sorry mobile I am so mad because of abnormal distortion and no fix that I decided to abandon the brand totally. Preordered xbox one x scorpio edition ang going to sell crapp ps4 pro which benefit over regular ps4 is laughable and visible only on paper + fake 4K. Already stopped ps plus and also will be buying new tv from other brand. The same apply for smaller electronics, audio a d movies at cinema. Sorry pictures = no thank you.

So yes I agree with you completely. Mobile division ruins this brand and should be closed immediately. I am sure they will not survive considering their new products, software treatment and communication. Lack of marketing supporting it as well. Definitely matter of time, but who knows how long playstation brand will be sponsoring it?

  • azzido

Well, division is led by brainless monkey, what to expect?

  • razorg

Yeah, it’ll be better to wait for some tests, but I wonder what they thought they achieved by sacrificing battery capacity, really…

  • azzido

    Straight to the ass.
I would not say it better.

  • azzido

More distortion included out of the box and ALWAYS ON?

  • azzido

    Soo many steps back.

  • azzido

It looks like hurricane is knocking on their door, it’s not only Texas.

    Wave expected to hit tomorrow.

  • azzido

The point is there will be definitely no upgrade if no downgrade (in size there already is) and this is not what people expect. This is not improvement especially at this bezel size and fat princess size.

  • razorg

I’m sorry but as a Z5C owner since October ’15, I strongly disagree. Quite fine in daylight, but for night or dim/lowlight places, outcome is just horrible and that annoying shutter lag get worse, resulting in really SH.T photos…

  • Aiden Pearce

Soon Sony will use 900mah battery that Nokia feature phones used… Looks like Sony is going backwards.. all other companies are increasing the battery in their future flagship…Sony stands out in decreasing the battery…from 3200mah to 2700mah well done.. idiots

  • razorg

Every single thing the fanboys said to justify the size of the bezels are, one-by-one, taken away from them by Sony itself, but they are still fanboy-ing…

  • Moisés

    Lower factory cost ?

  • azzido

Meanwhile, I think I just saw S8/Orange advert on TV in last hour… The horrible one with this ugly anja rubik or whatever “it” is called. I wonder why they couldn’t hire any pretty girl. Still, S8 everywhere in my country, sorry does not exist. XZ1 will only kick the man down :/

  • Nothing wrong, I want sharper images, and full manual mode.
Lets face it, Sony does not justice its name when it comes to camera on mobile phones.

Before I bought Z5, DxO Mark gave good grade for Z5´s camera, but I got dissapointed when I saw photos in person. Maybe because I am coming from Lumia 1020, but Sony dissapointed me.

Now I don´t believe DxO Mark at all. Also I have blueish-purpleish tint on the corners when i take low light photos.

And this is my second Z5, previously had problems with motherboard and what not, display died too. So I got completely new Z5 last week.

I thought its faulty sensor, but it´s not

  • Moisés

I agree. People get impressed by big batteries.
Those who do not read about technology and have no idea about system optimizations.

I’d like to see 3000 or 3200 inside XZ1. Even if it meant thicker phone like XZ.

About price. Not much different from Z phones.
In many locations Z2, Z3 and Z5 were more than 700 dollars too.
If I am not wrong XZP has always been cheaper than Z5P.

Samsung, LG, HTC and Huawei have done the same.

Here, Galaxy S costs at least 700 dollars since S3.
The initial price of S8, G6 and XZP was the same.
    About 1200 dollars.
Now ppl can get all them much cheaper.

G6 and Huawei P10 are not better than 2016 flagships.

I always wait one year to buy a new one. Price drops almost 50%.

  • Moisés

Except LG and Huawei, all put smaller batteries this year.

XZP, Moto Z2 Force, S8 and OP5 have smaller batteries than their previous versions..

  • Moisés

    Actually not hurricane, but earthquake…
One earthquake back in 2016 made Sony lose tons of money.

  • Moisés

    L1 is low end.
Helio P20 is equal to SD625.

  • Moisés

    F1.6 wont help v30.

Imx258 is same of XA 2016.
Same specs of X front camera.
Diagonal has 2mm less than imx300. This makes a huge difference.
Bigger aperture wont help a small sensor.
    There is a proportion.
F1.6 for 1/2.5″ is not same of F1.6 for 1/3″ sensor.

  • DBS

And on LCDs there’s quick degradation of the screen and the whites quickly turn yellow. So yeah, AMOLED is superior. Which is why everyone is moving to it. TV manufacturers – Sony included – are moving to OLED and smartphone makers are moving to AMOLED (which is just a marketing word for OLED for mobile).

The only question that remains is: is Sony’s JDI venture ready to produce mobile OLED displays (AMOLED) or aren’t. Because if Sony doesn’t move to AMOLED, the only reasonable explanation for it would be that they want JDI to do it instead of having to resort to LG or Samsung like everyone else.

  • DBS

All technology has an expiration date.
The “burn in” on AMOLED displays hasn’t been a real issue in years. Mainly because the screens have a shift-technology built in them that from time to time shifts whatever is being displayed one of two pixels from one side. That happens specially when there are permanent things being displayed like on-screen navigation buttons (which, honestly, are a terrible idea to start with even on LCDs).

LCD also wears out and degraded. The whites quickly turn yellow and the display dies. I’ve only had ONE problem with a display in all the years I’ve used smartphones. Only one display died on me. And that was the LCD display of a Nokia 920. Never had any issue with an AMOLED displays. So as you see…that’s all very relative.

I’m not saying all LCDs are bad. For example, the LCD displays on the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 (which use Nokia’s proprietary lamination overlaying formerly known as “Clear black”) are pretty good. But those phones cost less than 300€. On those phones, sure, LCD is a very acceptable choice. On a flagship though, it isn’t. Because a flagship is supposed to be “the best a company can do”. If LCD is the best Sony Mobile can do…that bodes very badly for them.

  • dragonsneeze

This needs a Snapdragon and actual stereo speakers. Also why do they even remove the Ultra’s key feature, the front cam.

  • razorg

Ok but why would they want to do that? They’re already small enough to not lose any money, and judging by the past couple of years, they hardly spend any money on R&D, so they must be earning a small but healthy profit now. And this compels us to raise our expectations of them. However, they seem to be forgetting about us and obviously being run by their accountants completely, not by their enthusiastic engineers driven by the enthusiasm of the customers…

  • Prince Mensah

It’s shocking….they used to have 2 day battery life as their mantra but now….I don’t even know…

  • Manu

I agree – they are going backwards, all in the wrong direction :/

  • Manu

What do you mean in detail? :)

  • hansip

It is fatter? Don’t you see it’s 7.1mm compared to 8.4mm of the old?

Of course I agree they should stay with bigger battery. But let us see first today.

  • MrWalker1000

still nothing exception. at least s8, iphone 8, and htc11 are doing design changes.

sony cheaps out on screen and gets 1080 instead of 1440p. nothing stand out 2017 is supposed to be big.

  • (C):stem

    hahahaha

Always love to see enraged Sony fans every new release. Can’t you just stop crying and choose any other option that suits your needs? Even a brand change is good. I like Sony but it didn’t deliver last year (but I still got a Xperia X), so I switched to OnePlus and it was great.

i believe the 2700 is for the x1 not xz1?

  • johala02

Was thinking to buy one Xperia XZ1 but when saw this I put a order on the new Nokia 8 instead. Sony going in the wrong direction when they make smaller batteries.

  • Itsarapong Intoum

Funny thing is those who said there is no need for manual mode on smartphone will also use it when it’s available.

    lol

  • Jacky

You forgot about Samsung decreasing their batteries after the explosions last year XD

  • Jacky

As looking as it lasts longer than xz and z5. I don’t care much about having a 2700mAh battery

I have never heard of lcds turning yellow, I have heard about that on Amoled screens though…. So you must be mixing them up xD Sony will move to Amoled at some point why do you think they develop oled in JDI? But only when they truly can outshine lcd screens…

  • (NinJer)

They can go yellow, depending on the glu used, if left in sunlight the glue can turn yellow, or if the screen gets too hot, or the panel itself got too hot and started to discolour the pixels.

Happened a lot on first and 2nd gen surface pros and many many other LCD panels.

  • (NinJer)

Amoled is not the same as oled.

Yes they have better blacks but burn is in an issue with the always on displays, however colour reproduction is not as good as IPS atm on phones as they are smaller and harder to produce small sized chipsets, where as TVs with oleds are far superior.

OCD kicked in when samdung had to move their static items on always on screens move around a pixel just to stop burn in lol.

  • DBS

Actually it is. AMOLED is just a type of OLED. The AM stands for Active Matrix, which means that the TFT not only charge the pixel but also store power. An OLED display only charges the pixels, it doesn’t store power. Because of that, AMOLED is more efficient in terms of battery and it’s therefore pretty much only used on smartphones, wearables and other types of mobile devices. But if you wanted to create a big portable television set (one with a battery), then AMOLED would also be used in it.

    – Burn ins on AMOLED are not actually a real issue. Their occurrence nowadays is very very rare. Even on Always On Displays, they aren’t actually always on the same place. Whatever is being shown on the display is being constantly moved around precisely to avoid those burn ins. That happens on ANY display using OLED technology. If you buy an OLED TV and you press “mute”, the mute signs will be going around the screen instead of staying in one place.
Besides, LCDs also degrade pretty quickly with whites turning yellow. Which means they not only can’t reproduce blacks, they also lose their whites fairly quickly.

    – Which leads me to the “colour reproduction” topic. That’s another myth. AMOLED displays can be as dull and washed out as LCDs. If you pick up for example a Samsung device and head over to settings you’ll find there a setting to remove the over saturation that some people complain AMOLED has.
The only reason AMOLED phones come with the screens with punchy colours is simple: the overwhelming majority of people prefer vibrant punchy colours on their screens instead of “more realistic” but also more washed out colours.

Instead on focusing on the bad, have you tried focusing on the good for once? Sony is top notch with Android updates and security patches. they are always the fastest, front facing speakers, waterproof, and durable. I’ll buy another as my X compact is a great phone apart from the material that scratches too easily.

As long as they make compact phones, I’ll be a customer. Samshit and their somehow slow and laggy (and I think hideous) S8 can go in the Apple pile of overpriced crap.

  • Richard Brutski

HAHA you’re a console peasant. Oh SNAP, he switched from one crappy platform to the next!

Go home kid, your parents will buy whatever brand they want.

2700mAh : VA BIEN TE FAIRE ENCULER SONY

  • One issue I have with AMOLED displays. There are literally not capable of reproducing true red color.
It looks orange as fuck when compared to any other display type.
They’re not good at reproducing shades of gray either. It gives off a green hue.
And that’s really unavoidable, due to the architecture of the LEDs.

@EL_Spaha:disqus @razorgcy:disqus Ok, I can say that I agree with both of you that when it comes to low light the images are not so good (compared with iphone7 and the iphone has more detail) but I can improve them around 30% with manual (not for everyone and I agree). Btw for sunsets it’s amazing.
The fact that z5c takes better pics than the iphone7 in most cases (daylight) where everyone says “WOW” about iphone’s camera,
the fact that it’s a 2 years old phone and still performs compared to latest flagships and
the fact that it’s just a compact smartphone and not a dslr and I can carry it in the sea and take underwater pictures makes me a really happy user and satisfied with the results.

  • razorg

Using manual mode is not an actual use case though. You cannot stop a moment just because it’s in low light and you need to adjust manual mode, that second passes IMMEDIATELY! That’s not a realistic use case…

  • bobeobi gzigzigzeo

Sony’s Stereo is pathetic, Samsung crushed it with single speaker, and the Kings s HTC U11.

  • azzido

    Doode, I am buying whatever I want…

  • azzido

When it comes to Android uldates I consider them as worse now. Reason for that is with every “release” they are downgrading the soft and removing features and functions over and over again. And security patches are not made by them. It is just copy paste from google… Front facing speakers thatvare weaker than single speaker in competition, waterproof? Recently they agreed and acknowledged their failure in this regard a d will pay the money to users in US due to their fail (there was info on xperia blog and over all Internet).

There are few good things in xz premium like Glass used on the back which is great looking (but not scratch resistant since gorilla glass 5 is worse on this than 4). It is fast and almost lag free and screen is very good (no matter 4K is rather number without noticable effect).
Could be more brighter since this screen is dimmer than XZ.

Unfortunately this phone and brand was ruined due to abnormal distortion issue, wifi issiue, lack of fixes and horrible software treatment (downgrades I mentioned). Also design of these phones and its UI is already boring. Then they are fast with updates but not deliveribg all Android features, like you do not have these additional options after long press as it was not implemented in Xperia launcher :D :/ and so on and so for…

Google is paying 97$ per hour! Work for few hours and have longer with friends & family!!!
On tuesday I got a great new Land Rover Range Rover from having earned $8752 this last four
weeks.. Its the most-financialy rewarding I’ve had.. It sounds unbelievable but you wont forgive yourself if you don’t check it
    >>>http://GoogleFinancialJobsCash270TopEasy/GetPay$97/Hour…..

  • Richard Brutski

I don’t walk around blasting music like some white trash. I like front facing speakers when watching a video a home, but I agree, the speakers should be louder.

  • azzido

Shocking for me too, now they are advertising ir as “full day battery life” in this progress soon they will be advertising few hours battery life… Nice improvement from sony…

  • azzido

How come it will not help? Even their last cameras and soft was better than xperias then? It is mostly about F, software alghoritms and OIS. WE KNOW WHERE IS SORRY IN THIS REGARD, YEARS BEHIND COMPETITION.

All S8, G6, one plus 5 and iPhone 7 was better so now with F1. 6 the abyss will be even bigger!

And you can go and play with distortion and blur…

  • azzido

Yeah, I imagine this 2700mAh for regular XZ1 and plastic for compact on all the reviews. Sadly compact is still poor 720p, 32gigs only and crappy, slow usb 2.0. Relicts of the past. Everyone hoped for flagship compact and we have here mix of low/mid…

  • monoke

This is what makes the z3 legendary. No other phone from any oem to this day has got a better battery to thinness ratio! How da hell did Sony lose their touch so quickly? Lol.

  • Moisés

Big aperture with small sensor is worst than big sensor + f2.0.
    There is huge difference between 1/2.5″ + f1.7 and 1/3.06″ + f1.6 ..

Pixel, S8, U11 and XZP all have bigger sensors.
V30 has same of XA 2016.

Rear cam of G6/v30 has sensor with same specs of front cam used for X. Different sensors.

    Imx258 is 25% smaller than imx400.

I guess L1 has this sensor. Even XA1 has moved to a better one.

  • azzido

yeah hardware specs is one thing and then quality of pictures you can see when comparing it is another story. It is not new that sony is still lacking behind due to it’s software… In these conditions it even may happen that using OIS and better F will not help them either :/

you can market the specs, poeple see where the quality is by simple comparison of the results.

  • azzido

they have F1.6, OIS and Crystal Clear glasses made of GLAS instead of plastic used in xperias. Goodbye! :)

  • bak hep
  • Prince Mensah

I’m surprised…..it’s like they deliberately want to disappoint us….like they don’t care what we want….smh!!
