in Firmware, Xperia L1, Xperia X series

Sony Mobile has released new firmware updates for some of its entry-level and mid-range devices, moving the Android security patch to 5 August 2017 in the process. There is no change to the Android version, which remains on Android 7.0 Nougat.

The Sony Xperia XA1 update moves the build number from 40.0.A.6.121 to 40.0.A.6.135, while the Xperia XA1 Ultra moves build number from 42.0.A.4.89 to version 42.0.A.4.101. Lastly, the budget Xperia L1 has seen a minor update, moving it from 43.0.A.5.72 to build number 43.0.A.5.79. Let us what changes you’ve noticed in the comments below.

Thanks Mike, SonyXperiAilesi and walaspancha!

sony you forget already z5 here in Bulgaria

  • razorg

Again the same sh.t. Giving past month’s patches… I’m not even going to start about the Security Patch abandonment of Z5 series…

  • Not sure if all that whining about updates for Z5 series is a bait or mental illness…
It got more love than any other device same old or even little younger!
I know that You want updates, but You need to understand that companies needs to make profit by selling new devices and long updates makes it harder (many people buy new device for newer OS).

  • Not only in Bulgaria…

  • Colt1255

CE1 – Poland too. And Belgium.

So, it’s no WISE to expect Sony to improve itself in this sense? People are not stupid, you know. But obviously you are a close-minded fanboy. I’m not bloody asking for OREO. I know that’s not realistic. However, expecting regular security patches for a third year on a device IS realistic. That’s how Google themselves put it in their guidelines to the OEMs. Go read it if you don’t know. Why shouldn’t I complain if what’s been given as a right to me by the BOSS itself is taken from me by these OEMs (Sony in this case). We still haven’t forgotten how Z2/Z3/Z3C (which are practically the same devices inside, even down to their software build numbers) is left at May 2016 patches while their equivalent Sony phone (S5) is still now rocking with April 2017! It’s obvious; the equivalent Samsung phone (S6) will be getting a year more of support while Sony is abandoning, already abandoned in fact, us Z5 series users. I’m not a Samsung fanboy btw, before you jump onto it, I hate it as much, but that doesn’t mean that I should point out to the good they do, and the thing Sony lacks when compared…

  • NinJy

A phone with 2gb of ram with Android 6 or 7 is huge piece of crap, like my old Z5C.
Better keep the S5 at 4.4.4 as I did with Z imo.

  • Stay Lift3d

Still haven’t received 42.0.A.4.89 on my XA1 Ultra (G3221) but as always with UK Sony’s I am always waiting forever for an update…

  • razorg

I’ve got two friends, one with S5, the other with Z3C. Both of them are running great. But with the Z3C, you’re sort of getting the feeling that you’ve been left out in the rain without a jacket, let alone an umbrella. Software is something that has to be patched constantly. That’s why Google has introduced the monthly patch scheme. This is regardless of the Android version. And I’m not talking about “no Nougat for these particular phones” issue. They’ve already got up to their max available Marshmallow, but Sony likes to drop the patchings under these particular versions, while the competition doesn’t, which is a HUGE plus for the competition.

  • Keshav Burtony

Z Series support is over dude..It’s official..

  • Moisés

Samsung is doing well when it comes to security patches.
I do not remember any other OEMs that gives to old devices.

  • razorg

Yes, That’s what I’m saying. Why is everyone attacking me like I’m the supporter of the “other team”. This is not a football match. We shouldn’t be supporting ANYONE blindly. When it comes to Android version upgrades: Sony. When it comes to Security Patches: Competition (mostly Samsung). But that doesn’t necessarily mean that whatever Samsung is doing is unimportant and unnecessary, in fact IT IS important and necessary, and Sony should improve in this sense, just as how Sammy is supposed to improve themselves in “version upgrade” sense. But why would anyone want to ignore all these and attack the others who do not blindly support Sony? Utterly bewildering behaviour from all these people honestly…

  • razorg

Android Version Upgrade period is over. Google’s guideline STRONGLY suggests OEMs to provide another year of regular security patches (3 years in total after the release of a device, Z5 series are only 2 years old) under the same Android version, which Sony quite likes to ignore.

  • keewee23

    42.0.A.3.30 here,… outstanding phone btw

  • iArvee

You must be new here. Razorg seems to have a burning hate for Sony and must comment something like this on each post here. I mean why hate? Just sell the phone and move on to another brand. Simple.

I’m surprised he even has “two friends”.

Mine xperia z5 very laggy and getting hot when snapping a snapchat and instagram story. Any solution? Or any of you got this problem too?

FYI phone running marshmallow 6.0 out of the box are eligible for this. the z5 was a phone running android 5.1.1 out of the box. anyway security updates bring minor to non improvement under the hood of your device. if you still paranoid you can rest assure coz your z5 is rocking 7.1.1 which bring major under the hood improvement (that why stepup in android version). now if you compare it with its counterpart galaxy s6 its still running 7.0.

the galaxy s5 was an exception in this case i dont know why they bother with this crappy phone. and do you seriously believe samsung will bring timely security update to all its device running 6.0 up???

  • Gregory See

Razorg seriously, Iarvee is is right after all. Perhaps we should stop complaining and move on by supporting other brands. I mean it’s totally pointless for us to make a complain here. Get yourself an iPhone or Samsung. Sony is such a mullock! No more Sony for me!

  • Sigma

Security update brings major improvement under the hood – security improvement. They are still delivered for Android 6 and above every month. Pity almost no company takes care to deliver them to us…

  • Actman

So? What you mean by ‘major under the hood’ and what’s new on 7.1.1 for Z5? You can’t even get the apps shortcut and night mode? Apparently it was a trash update!

  • Actman

Do you personally think that somehow these incompetent defenders were owning a Z5 series? They are merely a bunch of hypocrites who either owning an X series or some sort of halfwit retailers out there. No worries buddy, why bother about them? You got your prized reason straight to the point and just take a good look at the official Sony’s blog about Z5 series. Comments are mostly negative! I’m pretty sure most of those patrons would slowly changing their minds about this priceless company.

Android security patch to 5 August 2017 was released with 40.0.A.6.121 in 40.0.A.6.135 i see they have messed up the Baseband, thats what has changed.

  • Probably. Not new as I’m reading XB for long, but it’s probably first time I “met” him.

  • Super-bait mode ON!

  • UIs of Sony and Google are very different, son not everything what AOSP brings will be seen in other manufacturers UI.
I think that’s what makes Android so perfect – a lot of UIs to choose, every with their own unique things. Seems I was wrong and Android should be as closed as Windows or iOS, so anything added by Google would be available regardless of device’s brand…

  • razorg

Expecting the “sensible behaviour” is hate? I’m simply expressing things. You guys are the ones who labelled me as a hater and started a “piss fight”. Tell me, your hand on your heart, that what I’m expecting from Sony is too much and/or unnecessary. But maybe I’m barking at the wrong tree and you guys have all abandoned your senses.

Yeah, I’m probably better off with another brand now, hell maybe even iPhone. It’ll be better than being a part of this community who takes constructive criticism as “hate” and want utterly positive comments and nothing else. Just do some self-criticism and you’ll see (if you got any senses left)

  • razorg

I don’t want to do that. I love the Compact series. But Sony has MAJOR flaws if you ask me, and I’m not sure if I’d be able to spend my HARD EARNED CASH on another Compact again at the moment. Maybe I’ll stick to my Z5C and never ever visit this community again, until another “compact-ish” smartphone comes out from another company, and I’ll be completely out of this cesspool with all these robotised-no free will-blindfolded fanboys in it…

  • razorg

I seriously hope this chat stays undeleted and we can see how it turns out until September 2018 and so on…

  • iArvee

Sure, keep telling yourself that. Good day, sir!

  • fried_egg

just 3 more days until my pre-order silver XZ1 turns up at my door….

  • Pascal Anargya Silverius Sulis

Good for you then ! (Maybe will get XZP in Chrome , maybe in 2 years from now………)

  • fried_egg

The Z5 is 2 years old this month… oh and the patch mine is running is June 17 while the o/s is 7.1.1 I don’t think that is bad for the old girl… of course I will be replacing mine in 3 days when the XZ1 is delivered to my door… however as a viable old flagship it will be happily received by a new owner who isn’t looking for the latest phone, just a very good one… The Z5 is e.o.l but it will have a good retirement…..

this is not the place to do any constructive criticism. the reason why people suspecting you are troll because u keep talking about 2 years old phone to get an update while at the same time u just ignore official sony website which handles all of user complain and feedback.

this place is for FAN and not sony mobile official website. this place only meant for those who wanted the latest news/review on sony xperia and comment about their opinion in comment section. if u said otherwise, u will be label as troll

  • Ryuzaki Raiga

u didn’t know about XZ1 compact??? u can upgrade to that phones. remember if u want faster update/upgrade goes to iphone/pixel. otherwise stick to xperia compact series, it still usable.

  • Ryuzaki Raiga

can you put the official link said that 5.1.1 phone must obligate to get 7.1.1?

  • Godwin Hezekiah Lawson

Great phone, received new update today
specs and price are very Okay
looking down at the rate of this device I strongly believe that the price is okay an I have a nice review here for it

please is android Version Upgrade period over?

  • kabiluddin

Yeah, you do that. And make sure to never come to xperiablog. No one wants trash like you and HAWX.

  • razorg

Oh yeah, finally. Make yourself scarce to me. Win-win ;))
