in Xperia X series

Sony Mobile has begun shipping its latest flagship, the Xperia XZ1, into the US market. The exact variant that Sony is selling in the United States is the Xperia XZ1 Dual (G8342), so users will benefit from dual SIM support. Sony continues to use a hybrid SIM tray with the Xperia XZ1 Dual, so if you want to use two SIM cards, then you cannot use a micro SD memory card in addition.

Sony is selling the Xperia XZ1 through Amazon.com for $699.99, with four colours available to choose from. This includes Black, Moonlit Blue, Venus Pink and Warm Silver, with all colours in stock at the time of posting. So, who is planning to stick an order in? Or, do you have your eye on another model (maybe the Xperia XZ1 Compact, or different brand altogether), we’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Order the Sony Xperia XZ1 through Amazon.com

Xperia XZ1 – Black
Xperia XZ1 – Moonlit Blue
Xperia XZ1 – Venus Pink
Xperia XZ1 – Warm Silver

They often drop the price very quickly…. but the fact it is available is good. I wonder how long until someone scans their bits and spreads it via social media?

  • Michael Reiche

Sony can argue that the Snapdragon 835 is more efficient, but what is that worth, if the screen drains the battery… like it does on my Z5.

Any news on VoLTE for TMobile USA?

I watched this video and the person said he got similar battery results compared to the v30 with its 3300mAh battery.

Yes best………….for the first time EVER, Sony has taken the steps to make an UNLOCKED phone of its VOLTE-CERTIFIED WITH T-MOBILE!!

    Proof: https://www.androidheadlines.com/2017/08/sony-xperia-xz1-xz1-compact-support-t-mobile-wifi-calling.html

I have T-Mobile too, so this was VERY good news, even though I’m prob not going to buy it cuz I’m still enjoying my HTC 10 which I got back in January. But I’m hoping this is a sign that Sony is not playin’ around anymore with the U.S. And the battery life on the XZ Premium was rated Excellent by Phone Arena, and I’m reading that the XZ1’s battery is EVEN BETTER despite the smaller battery!

  • RockStar2005

Actually Prince, the XZ1’s been rated with a better battery life than the XZ Premium, which was rated by Phone Arena as having “Excellent” battery life.

and the idiots will shout that the reduction in battery capacity is compensated by the reduction in consumption of components …

Gonna need actual picture to verify. Of settings or status bar.

  • RockStar2005

    best,

Well the phone was just released today (U.S. version and int’l) on Amazon. So that may take a couple weeks. But when a reputable publication like Android Headlines says it, I wouldn’t have any reason to doubt their statements as they surely would’ve fact-checked everything with Sony Mobile first. HTC did the same thing for my unlocked HTC 10 with T-Mobile, and so Sony wouldn’t be the first.

  • RockStar2005

I agree with what you’re saying for the most part. The Z2 and maybe even more so my old Z3 had SICK battery life……… easily going 2 days if you had Stamina Mode on. And 1 FULL day w/o SM on. But consider how bad Sony had gotten with battery life until recently………

I had the X Performance last year, and man, its battery life was like the worst-rated ever! It was a f’ing joke. But this year with the XZP and new XZ1, it appears Sony is making this a priority again. Maybe they won’t hit the numbers they had with the Z2 and Z3, but if they even come close, which seems to be the case with the XZ1, then we should happy Sony is even making an effort. Maybe next year they will actually match the Z2/Z3 levels?? The way things are going, that is becoming more and more likely.

  • T.B.D F

I expect the integration of a battery of 3200mAh in the next Xperia, that the definition remains identical not to impair the autonomy unnecessarily and that the size of the next flounder
remains the same as the others (5.2 “).

As long as Sony refuses to make the effort to re-integrate batteries with a capacity as large as that of the Z2, I will refuse to be a customer again and if my current Z3 (Screen of my ex Z2 dead) fails me by
then, then I will go elsewhere and for good.

  • RockStar2005

Yeah, I mean………..if they can get 82 hours of endurance with the XZ1 on 2700 mAh, then they SHOULD put larger batteries in. 3200 is cool. For me I’d even just be happy with 3000 even. I mean, my X Performance has a 2720 mAh battery in it, and it was awful. So I guess these processors are getting more & more efficient, but I’ve been saying for a while now too that just b/c they are doesn’t mean they should make the batteries SMALLER. People and/or companies these days have TOO MUCH of an obsession with “going thin”, and it’s annoying!

I will still go back to Sony as long as the battery life is above 80 hours of endurance, but for me there are other factors that they ARE improving on, but still have to do better. My main one is audio. It APPEARS they’re using a better DAC than in recent years, but the amp (esp headphone amp) is STILL weak and needs to be pumped up. This is where a larger battery would be ideal b/c then they could power the headphone amp and STILL have great battery life.

Maybe in 2018?? Overall I still like (if not love) the XZ Premium and XZ1 overall, but I’m going to stick with my 10 for now b/c it has TOP-RATED audio. The XZ Premium did NOT get T-Mobile VoLTE-certified, which was dumb and Sony could STILL do it but prob won’t. At least they did with the XZ1 though. And I don’t care for phabs either. But man, that XZ Premium is one BEAUTIFUL phone in person! lol Saw it in Black at Best Buy and even though I don’t normally care about the screens that much, I was FLOORED by the 4K HDR screen it has, and gorgeous backside.

Xperia XZ1 Battery life and heating are the main problems but other specs and price are very Okay
looking down at the rate of this device I strongly believe that the price is okay an I have a nice review here for it
    Xperia XZ1

  • TechGuyChris

Eh i think i’ll pass on this one. I have the Xperia XZ. Its not worth upgrading. The Xperia XZ has a super fast processor yet still lags like crazy with hardly any apps on it so im sure there isnt any improvement with the Z1. There also isnt a “wow” factor to having the XZ or the XZ1. To make matters worse, it looks very dated now that we have bezel free phones coming out. Sony kinda messed up on this one and i’m sure they were embarrased at MWC. The omni balance is just dated. I think i’m more annoyed with the lag on the phone however. I dont see a reason why anyone would get the XZ1.

  • T.B.D F

Absolutely agree with the fact that a bunch of idiots swore by the finesse but the most silly of all, it’s Sony who went.

In hand, no one is able to say how many millimeters the thickness of what it has in hand but it will speak of brick as soon as a product will be 2mm more than the others on a technical sheet.

Some will talk about software optimization … blah blah blah …

For me it will be software optimization
    +
reduction of the consumption of the components
    +
conservation of the capacity of the most important battery
already integrated in the past into a product with the same dimensions.

The impression of asking for the moon … hallucinating

  • webuser.my

Loving the XZ Premium. After owning so many Xperias (Z2/3 was amazing, after that, downhill).. Finally having one where the performance is snappy, battery life decent (nowhere near Z2 era though) and beautiful finish (subjective, but I find it beautiful).

Will replace it with the XZ2 Premium or whatever they eventually decide to call it. Only grip is, please give us a true Dual SIM option. You can do it for for the lower end models, why not the flagships?

  • mountain

For people who owns a XZ/XZs and not hold an XZ1 yet, do try it. Its amazing on hand. The reduced thickness is what makes XZ1 so different.

  • Frank

    XZ1C plzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • washinma2424

Only problem is when I flash to enable the fingerprint scanner I will probably lose volte and Wi-Fi calling.SMH

  • RockStar2005

    Right on brother! lol

We’ll see where they go next year. But again, the XZP and newly released XZ1 have given me a GREAT deal of confidence in Sony Mobile that had pretty much all eroded away at the hands of the Xperia X Performance I used to own.

My Z3 was perfect really, except, there was a nasty bug in Stamina Mode that would cause a random battery drain “freefall” unless you factory reset the phone, and it also would cause MMS (group) text messages to not always be received, which was a constant embarrassment for me b/c I’d have to ask ppl to resend messages or I’d just miss them. Thankfully Sony fixed that with the X series, but it goes to show important it is that they keep getting these newer phones RIGHT, or else just quit!

  • RockStar2005

    Hey washinma,

I don’t think it works that way to be honest, though I’m not 100% sure. I believe that if you flash the phone with international flash, it will simply just turn it into an international XZ1, with the fs enabled. The reason why I believe this to be true is that I knew someone last year who had the int’l X Performance on AT&T, and since AT&T doesn’t require VoLTE-certification like T-Mobile does, that person GOT VoLTE on their network.

My second reason is even more indicative that it will work fine. If you look at the GSM Arena specs page for the XZ1 (below), you’ll notice there’s only 2 real versions…………the single-sim model and the dual-sim. Yes there’s also the U.S. version and the int’l version, but these are actually the same phone just different “flashes”. So if the XZ1 is VoLTE-certified with T-Mo, I don’t see how it will matter which SIM version or “country” version the phone is. I hope that made sense. I’m just saying the int’l version and U.S. version are both put on the same phone, so taking this and my last paragraph BOTH into consideration, I am strongly confident that the int’l version will STILL let U.S. owners utilize VoLTE on T-Mobile’s network. Hopefully no one will ever prove me wrong. lol

  • RockStar2005

That’s awesome! How is it so far? When the Best Buy near me gets it, I may go check it out like I did the XZ Premium last week (which was INCREDIBLE).

  • Moisés

1209 dollars here. It will be available early october

  • pipslvr

I second this. How does Sony manage make the XZ lag so much with such powerful hardware? I have a Pixel with same hardware as Xperia XZ and it’s incredibly smooth and fluid.

  • The One

@rockstar2005:disqus what’s up man!?! This is PuffDaddy_d from Xda. Long time no see. I finally upgraded from the Z3C to the Honor 8 and despite the uncomfortably large size, I LOVE IT!

Anyway, the frustrating part about these newer processors being more efficient is that people seem to forget that they are still more powerful. It’s like car engines these days. They’re all getting better MPG with higher HP.

In this reference, the gas tank is our phone’s battery. Just because the engine (processor) is more efficient, doesn’t mean the gas tank (battery) should get smaller.

  • illstplaya .

How much screen on time do you normally get?

  • RockStar2005

    Hey Puff! Yes, long time!

That’s cool. Honor 8 is a pretty well-rated phone too. Nice! I almost steered my father to getting that but he ended up getting the OnePlus 5 instead as he might be traveling out of the country soon and that phone is like the most global-ready smartphone available right now (and runs on the 835 too ftw).

Yeah man, I couldn’t agree more. I’ve been sayin’ that too for a while now. Although now the battery life is starting to become great again, which is a relief. But I don’t appreciate them “cutting costs” by decreasing the size of the battery. Just imagine if the new XZ1’s 2700 mAh battery was 3200? I mean it would make them the UNDISPUTED KINGS OF BATTERY LIFE…………….again. lol Like they were in 2014 with the Z2 & Z3. I just want them to be great again, and it seems like they are slowly but steadily going back in that direction again.

We will see how 2018 will go, but if they could bump the battery size up a bit more, and the headphone amp volume/power too, and also of course have carrier involvement in the U.S. AND advertise here (YouTube videos don’t count Sony! lol), then I think they could really put a BIG DENT in Apple and Samsung’s profits. They also have to get smarter with pricing. But it seems like they are cuz I paid like $749 for my Xperia X Performance last year, while the XZ1 is selling for like $639 upon its release (which was today; both were int’l versions). HTC has been getting smart about pricing too with the U11. I currently am using the HTC 10 and LOVE it for its top-rated headphone audio (even outdid the LG V20 overall IMO).

Glad to hear from you again!

I ordered the international dual sim. Hopefully the fingerprint sensor is active.

  • dale kana

    That’s where I ordered my XZ1.

  • Rene Pedroso

I picked up the Moonlit Blue. I honestly have never had any issue with my Xperia’s. I have owned every iteration since the X1. It’s lighter, slimmer, metal on every surface. Perfect, and I only paid $600. You should definitely pick one up.

  • RockStar2005

    Awesome! Looks nice!

I LOVED my Z3 when I had it, except Stamina Mode in that series had a bug in it where if you turned it on, it would randomly make the battery percentage “free fall” and also it wouldn’t let most MMS (group) text messages come through, and the only way to fix it was to do a factory reset. But still I loved that phone, but that bug was frustrating b/c I wanted SM on. Eventually I found some app to take SM’s place, but it doesn’t work on the X series.

My Xperia X Performance, although also great in most respects, turned out to have like the worst rated battery performance of all smartphones that came out last year, which was a real let down cuz the camera on it was great. Plus the audio on the more recent Xperias has not progressed vs. the accomplishments HTC & LG have made, so Sony needs to step it up there (headphone audio especially). But the XZP and new XZ1 seem to be a bit better there on the quality (DAC) side, though the amp still needs to be bumped out for headphones. For speakers it has been, but some still say it’s not loud enough. Thoughts on XZ1 on audio??

I’m very happy with my HTC 10 but yeah it’s not a bad idea. Sony WISELY got VoLTE certification with T-Mobile (my carrier) for the unlocked XZ1, so this will definitely help them sell more phones. I will think about it, as the battery life on the XZ1 is rated VERY highly (82 hours endurance, where my HTC 10 only got a 66 hour endurance ((per GSM Arena))).

  • skrug

XZ has 3gb ram vs 4gb ram on Pixel.

I don’t experience this crazy lag you guys speak of, I also have XZ

  • TechGuyChris

Oh, ok.Do you actually use the phone? lol Social media twitter, facebook, discord, twitch, youtube, snapchat text messaging etc, playstaiton messages. Do you take photos and videos? Do you use Google Maps, for navigation or google services in general? if not, do you use 3rd party apps for such offerings? How about Google now? What about banking? Is your banks app installed? What about listening to music? Do you have your music app installed? lol Do you see what i mean when i say its lagging with hardly any apps on it? I only use the one listed above.. currently, thats 11 apps. A phone should be able to do all of that with no lag. But it lags with just those 11 apps installed haha.

If you dont use the phone for that stuff, then you dont probably dont need a smart phone and if you do use it for that stuff, the Xperia XZ is not the smartphone for you haha.

  • skrug

yes I use it, it’s my daily driver. I have all those apps (except snapchat) plus more, instagram, wechat, waze, and mutlitude of other media apps (netflix crunchyroll, prime video, spotify etc) and couple of banking apps. multiple rewards points apps. and a couple of games. Along with 20+ gb of music stored on the microsd card. few gigs of video (recordings from wedding, traveling etc.) and of course gigs of photos.

  • Genorok

Dale, are you on T Mobile? If so can you let us all know if VoLTE and wifi calling work?

  • dale kana

I’m on at&t. Check the developer forum. I think somebody there said he made it work on t-mobile.

  • LTEstyles

Super excited to hear that this version of the Xperia is getting support for T-Mobile VoLTE, HD-calling, and WiFi calling. I have been bugging John Ledger, T-Mobile CEO, on social media like crazy for an explanation as to why T-Mobile is no longer supporting Sony Mobile. Yea, I know, there are legality issues that can’t be disclosed, but at least give us some hope, right?

I really want to buy this phone, like now, but have you noticed Amazon is only selling the dual-sim version? I’d like to buy the single sim version. Do you guys think it will get released soon? Here’s hoping!

Yes!!!! INCREDIBLY STUPID STUPID STUPID!!! lol

I was seriously considering upgrading to it from my HTC 10, but I think now I’ll be sticking with HTC a little longer as originally planned. The XZ1 Compact has better battery life though than the XZ1 (108 vs. 82 endurance hours, per GSM Arena), and it also has the 835 too, which is cool but unusual b/c usually the Compact versions get lower grade processors. But 4.6″ screen is too small IMO. I can’t do anything below 5.0″ anymore. lol

  • washinma2424

Sony XZ1 can not slide down, you must re-boot will be good, there is the same return to the original, this situation occurs 3 to 4 times, do not know the hardware or software problems? Version is version 324
