Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 845, which will adorn most flagship Android smartphones in 2018. It will include an octa-core Kryo 385 CPU with a clock speed up to 2.8GHz in its four fastest cores. The chip will include Adreno 630 graphics, delivering a 30% improvement in performance versus the previous version.

It will also include an integrated Qualcomm Spectra 280 image signal processor (ISP) bring a premium camera experience with 16MP capture at 60 images per second. It will also capture 64x more HDR colour information for video capture and playback on 4K displays.

Qualcomm is combining all of this with an AI Platform, the Hexagon 685 DSP, which supports on-device AI processing for richer camera, voice, XR and gaming experiences. Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 includes Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology, capable of up to a 50% charge in only 15 minutes.

There’s a good chance we’ll see this in the Xperia flagship next year, although let’s hope we don’t have to wait too long to see an Snapdragon 845 Xperia flagship appear.
