Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 845, which will adorn most flagship Android smartphones in 2018. It will include an octa-core Kryo 385 CPU with a clock speed up to 2.8GHz in its four fastest cores. The chip will include Adreno 630 graphics, delivering a 30% improvement in performance versus the previous version.

It will also include an integrated Qualcomm Spectra 280 image signal processor (ISP) bring a premium camera experience with 16MP capture at 60 images per second. It will also capture 64x more HDR colour information for video capture and playback on 4K displays.

Qualcomm is combining all of this with an AI Platform, the Hexagon 685 DSP, which supports on-device AI processing for richer camera, voice, XR and gaming experiences. Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 includes Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology, capable of up to a 50% charge in only 15 minutes.

There’s a good chance we’ll see this in the Xperia flagship next year, although let’s hope we don’t have to wait too long to see an Snapdragon 845 Xperia flagship appear.

Via Qualcomm.

My sources said that the new design of 2018 flagship will be mindblowing, just take my words, wait, and see for it later, I think the leaks will be out there in the wild soon.

It has small bezels, a whole new design, and more to come.

    I hope so Alvin!

I’d REALLY like to see them switch to 18:9 too, though that doesn’t appear to be in the works for 2018, at least not early 2018 anyway. I got the LG V30 right now and LOVE it with 18:9. Had the Z3 and X Performance in the past too.

  • Laraib

Well this sucks….I don’t think so they will put 845 next in their smartphones! They do fucking job ! They have launched recently Xperia r 1 which is having Snapdragon 430 wtf? You are not living in 2012 ?

  • comme des garcons

    What are your souces?

  • Yuri

I think it’s time for Sony to do something with their Xperia flaghships that brings in more attention from people. Something big and something that they already have experience in, like for their flaghship, they could announce also a new Sony VR for mobile, alongside their new flaghship. Now that, would certainly get some attention. After all, right now, Sony is already well-known for their Playstation VR, they should use this to their advantage!

  • Alvin

    Esato.com

  • Alvin

Yes! But I think they will stick with 16:9 for now.

How’s viewing videos on 18:9 display ratio, I’m not used into that because I still use my Z3 :D

  • RockStar2005

    Yeah lol

It’s great! No black bars or nothin’. Sony needs to switch! 18:9 gives you MORE screen and LESS body. Makes phablets feel smaller, which I LIKE cuz I hate big phones. lol The V30 is actually SMALLER than the V20 and has a bigger screen because of 18:9. Just sayin’……………lol

  • Alvin

    Oh cool! :D

No black bars at all? Even when viewing videos in YouTube? Does every video that has 16:9 ratio appear stretched? That’s my main concern in buying phones with 18:9/37:18 ratio.

  • xXEΠDEЯ ҒЯEΔҜXx

Since they are good at that, they should make their futurr smartphones “PlayStation VR Ready” and also support for Google Daydream too as a 2nd choice for VR. Another thing they should improve is their camera. They have improved the daylight photo quality but yet to improve the low-light. Even though I use Manual Mode the most compared to Superior Auto, I feel like there are people who doesn’t know how to use Manual Mode which is a shame, so they rely on Superior Auto all the time. And lastly the design. I have heard their new “Mirai” design coming out next year, probably bezeless but with the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio which is better, but the design I feel like there is nothing to improve, except trimming down the bezels

  • RockStar2005

Sorry man. I misspoke. If the video is 18:9 then no black bars. But if not, then yes, I DO get them. However, I prefer the overall benefits I get from 18:9, so I’d still choose it over 16:9 anyday.

No stretching. Just black bars, which I’d take over stretching ANY DAY of the week! lol

  • xXEΠDEЯ ҒЯEΔҜXx

Some brands provide a mode to cover the black bars like how SAMSUNG did, but we will see how Sony will do if they go for 18:9

  • Alvin

    Lol.. Okay, thanks!

  • Yuri

Yes. They definitely need to improve the low light. So what are the best settings in manual for low light then?

  • Rohit Patil

If true this would be the most exciting thing to have happened in mobile world in last 5 years for me. They dragged omnibalance for too long.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

I don’t believe until I see it. How many mind blown designs were there :P

  • Francis Troy Fabrigas

Early rumours tell that Sony’s first mainstream flagship device in 2018 will use SD835 instead, probably because of the same reason LG went for SD821 instead of SD835 earlier this year with the G6.

  • Ryuzaki Raiga

in 2012, there’s only snapdragon s4 pro, plus and play….. no snapdragon 430

  • washinma2424

Do we have “Confirmed Rumor” pictures yet I am getting excited. LOL Thanks for the info Alvin

  • RockStar2005

    Sure no problem!

  • Alvin

    Not now, I think

  • S.H.U.R.O.

One of this “someone”, promised me half year ago that XZ1 will have the new F/1.8 aperture and optical image stab. But in reality, it was simply another sony smartphone..)

  • 江宜謙

I would like to expect that Sony put a great DAC chip to its flagship to improve the quality of music playing. (althoug it will definitely conflict with Walkman player…) Just because I think audio is what Sony should be good at, but nowadays Xperia is still walking behind other cellphone brands. (like Apple, Samsung, and LG etc.) Maybe we could expect there will be some changes when 845 is on. (A greedy wish from a Sony lover lol.)

  • Simon Tang

I’ll believe when I see it, I’ve been waiting for such a long time.

  • Simon Tang

I really wanted the V30+, until I felt it. Then my preference for the G6 resurfaced, simply because the sides of the G6 feel edgy like an Xperia. I’ve never been a fan of rounded and edge-less phones. To me, it has to feel like an edgy slab in my hands.

  • Yuri

It would be better for Sony to not be dependent on Google Daydream, rather by releasing their own VR for mobile would give an additional exclusive Xperia feauture. That could help attract more customers to the Xperia Lineup. Also, gaming for mobile is another area they should focus on. Exclusive games for Xperias would be a great + for Sony!!

  • RockStar2005

I got the G6 free from T-Mobile as a promo for buying the V30 through them, and gave it to my mom to replace her (quite) old Xperia Z1s. She really loves it too. It is a very nice phone as well. But I really want the Quad DAC feature for me, and since the U.S. versions don’t have it, that is one big reason why I preferred the V30. It’s all preference I guess.

  • Moisés

Use other phones to play music..

There are Sony and HTC, then Axon 7.. Then the rest.

  • Moisés

If they use 835 it will be own choice, like the 820 inside XZs.

  • Moisés

Low ISO, no more than 100.
    Shutter between 0.7s – 1s.

You can try EV 0.3 or 0.7 to see if gets even better.

But be aware that without OIS you need to be very steady.
According to GSMArena, when stabilized (tripod or very steady hands) it can crush S8 easily in low light.

  • Moisés
  • RockStar2005

    Hey Moisés,

Yeah but it feels like more screen. lol

  • TimmY

    And SD 835 :(

  • BGDoesGaming

    yh… i got over excited :(

  • Alvin

    Yeah, that. :(

  • Alvin

Edit: https://www.gsmarena.com/upcoming_fullscreen_xperia_smartphones_leak_in_images-news-28630.php <– There you go, but I don't know if that is the phone that has a mindblowing design, that one could be fake though. (Actually, I don't like that design)

  • xXEΠDEЯ ҒЯEΔҜXx

The best settings for low-light is the ISO set at 400 or settings the shutter speed to around 1/125s. This is a problem now, I have used the newest X series and they can set the ISO and shutter speed together, unlike my Z series and the early X series including my XPERIA XZ which only can control one of them, and not both. They have to update the older ones so that those people using the older ones can get similar Manual Modes as the ones found in the newer ones

  • Itsarapong Intoum

    I feel you…

  • ymytbb .

I LOVE the design especially the round one. But actually it looks just a fan-made concept. What do you NOT like about it?

  • ymytbb .

    new design…concept? I can’t read the language

  • ymytbb .

Everyone is talking about possible new designs lol off topic

  • Geralt

front was Good. I mean yeah i liked what he did there, but back gave it all away. Sony will never shit on their Design language this badly. And the building reflections on the front panel. Ha Ha Ha HA

  • Geralt

no one knew Sony is bringing out an SD835 device before everyone else at MWC. But they did. so we still have hope

  • New design looks like samsung. I think square design is better than this new design.

    This one will be different

I don’t know, I hate it because it looks fake, may

  • Moisés

    Concept only

  • dragonsneeze

isn’t it too fast of a shutter speed? A normal not too shaky hand could do 1/32 quite easily. I used to manage 1/8 handheld.

  • Zayed Kotayba

I don’t think they are real although nice concept

  • Tau45

Check those pics, if that is true, new Sony smartphones will look amazing!

  • kaostheory

That’s because this site actually sucks for Xperia news. Why not show renders if they are interesting. Why not do headphone comparisons, I still don’t know the real world difference between the mdr nc 31 to the 750 of course the 750 are high definition and a lot more expensive. Someone who cares should offer to take over the site.

  • kaostheory

Unfortunately they don’t make microchips. They are limited to whatever the Snapdragon offers. If they could design their own dedicated chips for VR, PS, audio and camera, they could make something truly special. Unfortunately it would be too expensive for the average customer, and as the past has proven having the best device doesn’t always sell the most.

  • Yuri

Well, Samsung uses Snapdragon chips as well, they still managed to make their own VR for mobile. If they mamaged, Sony should too.

  • Yuri

Thanks, I will be trying them out!

  • Yuri

Sounds good, I will test that out. It’s always fun to play around with the camera’s manual controls!

  • xXEΠDEЯ ҒЯEΔҜXx

The shutter speed u mentioned is noisy, maybe u are talking about the XPERIA XZ1’s camera, but I am using XPERIA XZ to take photos, which I cannot do ISO and shutter speed at the same time

  • comme des garcons
  • Vinny Conforto

This image is everywhere online that makes me think this could be it. But Xperia blog doesn’t react to it that makes me think it’s just a ideal image created by someone. Still I hope this turns out to be true because it looks fantastic

  • Vinny Conforto

Yeah Sony ignores amazing concept designs

  • Vinny Conforto

    yes

  • S.H.U.R.O.

Main difference will be generally with new 18:9 display. The rest the same processor, the same one 19mp camera

  • Alvin

    Let’s see :)

  • Alvin

    I think that is fake

  • 3_nity

    WTF design. :D

  • dragonsneeze

I’m talking generally, slower shutters should be more beneficial for low light scenarios especially if the ISO is set to auto. 1/125 would make the ISO higher, so it should be noisier unless you actually meant 1/12,5

  • xXEΠDEЯ ҒЯEΔҜXx

Ok so this is what I am confused, I like my XPERIA XZ1 control when using Manual Mode compared to my XPERIA XZ, because it can tune the ISO and shutter speed together, which made it easier for me and allow me to take better photos. When I use the XPERIA XZ, I would tune the ISO most of the time, and sometimes tune the shutter speed too. But I realized when tuning the shutter speed only on my older ones, it turns out noisier, and this is what I am confused when I am using the older ones

  • Talos the Robot

Also 16:9 is better for reading articles and books.

  • dragonsneeze

If you’re choosing 1/125, that’s simply not enough for low light situations. I don’t know how dark it is, and it could be about Sony’s processing. Is it still noisier if you select around 1/10 or slower? If so, it probably selects a higher ISO even on slow shutters. And only Sony can fix that.

If it turns out to be true, I will definitely get one, but it looks too good to be true…perfect for me

  • Vjekoslav Andric

64x more rgb color for 4k screens?
Wow, qualcomm built this SoC with Sonys 4k screen advantages in mind….
    Bring it on…

  • Vjekoslav Andric

I think bringing the Playstation Now feature for PS3/PS2 games on a flag device would bring much attention. Dont know why they cancelled its support for mobile Xperias?

PS3 games streaming feature can be a nice selling point, as those games are still much more advanced than any android ones….

And of course they should enable 120hz refresh on their screens for best of googled VR…
Or implement a standalone mobile VR headset, not googled ones, they made the screens and patents for it already…

  • azzido

    New Xperias!!! :
    http://m.benchmark.pl/aktualnosci/sony-xperia-nowe-smartfony-z-odchudzonymi-ramkami.html

Looks great but glass one should be rounded too! Shape should be identical but we should have a choice glass or metal :)

I wonder why camera placement is different and what it means. Double cameras are there. The glass one should have fingerprint scanner incorporated into screen. It lokms great, awaiting color like deep blue sea :) :) :)

  • azzido
  • azzido

I just noticed the glass one is not entirely made of glass :(
And its edges should be rounded same way as metal one.

Anyone knows what difference may be caused for the cameras if these are not close to each other as presented in glass one?

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Soo true. There are so many amazing concept designs. I think they should work on one of those.

  • kappa

fugly lol, they better stick with the old design for another release than with that.
A mix of huawei and iPhone clone.

  • kappa

He’s confused with the lineup numbers of qualcomm, poor laraib.

  • azzido

I hope both will be rounded like the one on the right.
Still hoping to get back to Arc design :P

  • Reddkliff11

My cousin’s best friend just bought new house in Cleveland, and, what’s even more intriguing is that he saved for it by working online for about 1h and 20 mins daily, just by making use of certain guidelines they specified there. I wanted to find out more about it, asked for a website, and they gave me this page

  • indianmeister

better stick with the old one, looks like a Samsung or iPhone, if I wanted one of those Ill be buying those not an xperia… also kinda like the bezels of the xz1 XD
