Xperia XA2 Ultra (Sony H42XX) leaked with dual selfie camera

by XB on 1st January 2018

in Rumours, Xperia XA series

If you remember back to early August 2017, we caught a first look at an unknown Sony Xperia device which had a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, the first time in a Sony device. We speculated that the phone would launch at the IFA tradeshow in September, but the show came and went with no sign of this handset.

It looks like the same handset, now known as the Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra (H4213, H4233) will launch in early 2018, judging by the latest leaked photos. It shows a device with a rear fingerprint sensor running Android 8.0.0 Oreo. Design-wise the handset looks very similar to the existing Xperia XA1 Ultra with front-facing LED photo flash, but this new device incorporates two-front-facing cameras. Selfies will be the main focus of this phone, so it will be interesting to see how Sony leverages these dual selfie cameras with new software.

In terms of specs, the Xperia XA2 Ultra is expected to have a 6-inch FHD display, and be powered by a Snapdragon 630 chipset with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.

Thanks Abhijith, KF and Samuel!

    So, “Ultra” big bezels again..

  • In an interview, a Sony executive told the loop design wouldn’t dissappear. And since this is a middle range device, it’s more likely a new design to appear in the Ultra premium (Xperia XZ Pro A) and premium (XZ2) segment

if they get rid of the flat back then bye sony mind aswell get a samsung with a better screen and better everything the design of sony phones is what makes them my choice but if they mess with that then they’ll lose me.

  • Moisés

    Ugly

  • Moisés

I am not sure but it looks curvy like LG G3 and Zenfone 2

  • Nodar Sixarulidze

    Sony’s bezelless smartphone leak ;)

  • jonathan

    that just looks dissapointing

  • KarFar

This shit is 450 euro according to Roland Quandt. Good luck competing with Galaxy A8+, Huawei nova 2s or even the new Nokia 6.

  • Achour

This Xa2 is very similar to the old Xperia Sp, but, we want borderless.

  • Emil Oskarsson

Still the top bezel has 2 cameras and a front facing flash aswell. You cant hide thoose things under nothing XD And look at the bottom bezel, its a real improvement over XA1 ultra :p

  • vin

It looks nice, actually. I hope they abandon MTK completely this year: Xperias with these processors are a train-wreck (not performance-wise but software-wise).

  • johala02

Same huge bezels as always. If this is ”the new design language” it will be a failure.
I still hope that we see some different approach in the upcoming flagship devices. If not its over for Sony in the smartphone industry.

  • Rafay

The bezel at the bottom is shorter than that at the top, XA ultra has a STB ratio of around 75% and XA2 ultra is surely going to have a better STB ratio.
Don’t forget the top bezel houses a 1/2.6 camera with OIS and one more camera sensor.

  • johala02

Even so the price seems to be 450 Euro. So the competition in that price range are tough.

  • Moisés

Samsung has name. No matter what their phones have.

Sony Z and LG G2 were better than S4.
    S4 sold 80 million units..

  • dragonsneeze

Do you seriously think they will introduce Mirai with a midrange?

  • xtess3ractx

Really hope this won’t be the design language across the entire product portfolio. Especially that rear fingerprint scanner.

  • Harry Rogerich Carnecer Relamp

    Why not bezell-less SONY

  • joseph carmine nero

A8+ is 640 euros. What are you smoking?

  • Vuyo Ncube

Looks like a Chinese knockoff of a prototype!

  • Vinny Conforto

the first disappointment of 2018. unhappy new year..

  • comme des garcons

H82XX flagship of 2018 will be as ugly as XA2 Ultra

  • johala02

So Sony will not compete in the midrange space, why make them at all then? I think a brand should compete in all fields. Just add a fingerprint reader that everybody else already got are not enough.
But I hope atleast it got some excellent camera. Time will tell.

  • Night Guy

Sony mobile loves making the jokes. xD

  • Francis Troy Fabrigas

One doesn’t have to be small in bezels to compete.
The front camera on this phone blows everything else out of the water, and large bezel is the trade off of this thing, so the users must be aware already before buying.

Besides, the back was redesigned so it had some slight refinement there. And bezels aren’t an issue if it means better grip to the phone.

  • Francis Troy Fabrigas

Backside fp scanner. Hopefully it means it is enabled in European countries.

And all these people hating the design on picture that it looks ugly but then looks gorgeous in reality.
    Remember the Xperia Z3?

  • phil g

I actually don’t mind the design especially since this is meant to be a mid-range device. I hope it’s true that Sony will use a Qualcomm chipset on the XA2 series. Looking forward to seeing what Sony Mobile has to offer in 2018.

  • John ford

hoping for the best design for flagship

  • John ford

    I hope not

  • Itsarapong Intoum

There’s no way SONY will remove their Laser AF sensor and RGB-IR sensor from their flagship. I’m not sure if this one will be real or not. But it’s definitely not a flagship.

  • Ashwin Nagarajan

hopefully xperia going to shutdown in 2018

  • Oh!

lesser competition doesn’t benefit the consumers.

  • I think fingerprint scanner is on back because of patents that cant allow to have fingerprint scanner in power button at the side of the phone in the USA.

  • joseph carmine nero

Yes.check the normal version here.its 550$ for A8 2018. Plus version will be at least 600$

As a sony fan I am highly disappointed..
In 2018 mid range phones also need to be bezelless especially when the device cost 450 euro..But look at the sony..No design change also bad fps..
Oneplus 5T easily the best ph at this price range.. Upcoming A8 2018 may have small screen but have bezelless scrren, waterproof, same dual front cam and cost same..
Where is the selling point ???Can someone explain me why people will buy this!!
Those gigantic selfie camera with 4k recording??
No way even oppo vivo have solid selfie cam with high screen to body ratio at much cheaper price(ex oppo f5)
    Huawei have honor 9i..
Upcoming nokia devices also will be bezelless..Htc also planning a bezel less mid range phablet..
Then Why sony why??Every brand now offer new trendy design but sony still stuck with outdated design..
If it atleast have SD660 and waterproof then price will be justified…
But as of now it just looks overpriced outdated design product..
    Huge disappointed!!

  • Nodar Sixarulidze

    Fake :)

  • Ther9reatSkull

Hopefully ?! WTF is this stupid logic .. If you don’t love their products then go buy other sh!t and leave them alone

  • Ashwin Nagarajan

i like sony once upon time, but now days in mobile segment the making they product really stupid,Other sh!t companies making better than sony

  • Rizky Maulana

    Unhappy New Year All ^_^)/

  • Jadranko Pavlotić

Yeah I can see the new design NOT

  • razorg

The back is not entirely ugly, in fact, quite alright if the device is priced competitively. However what bugs me is the front. I don’t care how many cameras or sensors etc are located in those bezels, they should be slimmer. At least, the top one should be the same size as the bottom one (bottom bezel is actually quite ok), so it would look symmetrical. Symmetry always gives a better look regardless of the bezel size :)

  • Amaury Farías
  • Oh!

Define better? XZ1 although have thick bezels and boring design, the SPECS, OS, and price is on par with the others.

  • Me
  • Me

Sony Omnibalance design is about symmetry. Except Xperia L1 which top is bigger than top.

  • Me

I hope Sony brings back water resistant phone on mid range level like Xperia M5

  • Ryuzaki Raiga

sony prefer put camera on those bezel to reduce the heat produce by camera

  • Me
  • DIsChaos

The back is really good to finally put the camera in center but it missing many feature?
for front side Oh My God ! Two camera + flash + sensor If I don’t mistake it look ugly also would anyone care explaining why there is a dual camera on front side and not backside? and that flash is front look terrible

  • Ryuzaki Raiga

sony is better with optimization look at this and people still buying the slow s8

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7vLoFJcfsI

  • Ryuzaki Raiga

SP has those blink blink LED but this phone has useless bottom bezel

  • dragonsneeze

So design is the most important thing in the midrange segment, hmm that must be why LG Q6 is selling like hot cakes. Also don’t confuse this 6 inch display with the fake 6, cuz this one not only has more surface area it also doesn’t shrink to 5.2 when a 16:9 content is viewed. Show me one midrange that has 16:9 display with %76 stb. I mean come on, at least complain realistically. One other thing to note is this device leaked well before 2018. Even before XZ1. So this may have some design cues from Mirai but it’s essentially a 2017 design.

  • Although XA2 Ultra has leaked in full glory with specs has leaked everywhere that i could believe could be the device itself , until the Sony decided to officially release either CES 2018 / MWC 2018 , i’ll take some of grain of salt . Its look of leaked XA2U does polarizing for me a lot , as its look great and unique but lost of some its “Sony design” and quite weird ….

  • H-R-K

Sony is losing there competitive advantages day by day.

  • razorg

So you’re saying this XA2 is symmetric? Please get your eyes checked mate. Z3C, Z5C, L1 (as you stated), X Compact, XZ1 Compact, this upcoming XA2. These are the bunch of unsymmetrical phones, some more, some less than the others, but unsymmetrical nonetheless. The most symmetrically eye-pleasing phone for me was Xperia X (and X Performance), and maybe XZ Premium.

  • Gerwin Sobremisana

I’m fine with the bezels bit the fingerprint scanner to be moved at the back? Come on Sony, you can do better than this!

  • Kariko

if they want to introduce new design, they will do it on their flagship first, so wait for it

  • Achour

don’t know, perhaps there is a second front speaker.

  • Fűr Tibor

These front panel is ugly, and very disappointed from SONY! Please Sony, look some fan made video on YouTube about Sony mobile phones, and LEARN! I’m a Sony fan since my childhood, but these design is very boring nowadays, and I thinking to buy, after 20 years, some phone from other manufacturer, maybe LG. Sorry Sony, and don’t be surprised, next to such conditions, about your sales decrease year after year.

  • Luis

Fuck the damn bezels, that’s all you people complain about. Go buy something else then

  • Wiching

XA2 Ultra should use Snapdragon 660 cpu insist 630 chipset. this will give more attractive to consumer. hopefully better camera too with at lease F1.8 lens

  • razorg

I’m not complaining about having “big bezels”. Read my comment entirely before throwing up your hatred…

  • razorg

On second thought, although it still isn’t the most beautiful thing, it is not actually that bad. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/1469bd0c1daacfa138baa76d5517cc8ee98321c20f595ba66262792b589cdc63.jpg
