im still stuck with November security patch for my Xperia XZ1 in SA.

  • It’s unfortunately region dependent. Just flash different region and You will get updates faster.

  • Is there update for XZ1? XperiFirm doesn’t see it…

And link of security patches is to December ones, not January.

  • Kasen Naidu

  • XperiaBlog

Yes, the update for Xperia XZ1 is also released.

Thanks for the spot on the link, it has now been updated. :)

  • Skipper

233MB aprox. No change log. Will see

  • Still 8.0.0, still no Selfie Flash, no DTTW. But at least Security Patches! #XZPremium

  • Ama

    Sony Xperia Xz1 compact_Malaysia

  • Azhar Mohideen

can you guys let me know how i can jump to different region as i didn’t receive security patch after November one ..

  • Kwstakhs

Does anybody know when will X and X Compact get the Oreo update?

  • Blasse

Ues flashtool (link in previous xperiablog post). It has xperifirm integrated, so you can download ROM for other region from sony servers using it.

  • Degeimos

So, I just updated my system, and my wifi doesn’t work now

  • Barricade

But it’s the January 1st version, not the January 5th one. But what you’re saying still stands, the monthly security updates are very welcome and great on their part!

“Sony Mobile treats the security and privacy of customer data with the utmost seriousness. We are aware of “Spectre” and “Meltdown” and would like to reassure our users that protective patches have been provided as part of our ongoing Security Update Programme – patched devices will have Android Security Patch dated 2018-01-05 or later.”

“still 8.0.0” many other high end phones from last year haven’t even received oreo yet xD galaxy s8 for example :p

  • Of course you’re right (with the S8 beeing on 7.0 still) but I had hoped for a fast 8.1 release and possibly an integration of treble for the XZP.

  • ReddFreedom

Probably at the end of January

  • Night Guy

    Rip z5. xD

  • Kwstakhs

I have no idea though, if it will be better or worse

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Precisely I am so happy what Sony’s doing. Software wise they’re way ahead of other OEMs, I have a feeling Hardware wise also Sony’s gonna do something this year.

  • Emil Oskarsson

What do you miss thats new in 8.1.1? :) Treble was not possible to implement on the XZ Premium i read somewhere :( The phone must have some kind of reserved storage for treble if i remember correctly :p But then again, XZP owners dont have much to worry about since Sony is fast with updates anyway XD

  • Mansoor Elahi

I didn’t know about January 5th version of security patch. Thanks for letting me know :-)
Some years ago Sony was really behind it’s competators when it came to updates but now they are really fast, atleast much better than Samsung :-)

  • djfapples

I think oreo is the best

  • Marko

As I read news in May last year, Google, Sony and Qualcomm were working together for treble project,so I guess Sony gained a lot of knowledge about the updates. And even the phones are not capable for treble, I guess Sony made some changes in the background to easier apply the updates.
Anyway I’m happy having the XZP and running in the new FW already.

  • pberruti

Another upgrade and my XZ1C with HK region is still stuck with 47.1.A.2.374 (3 upgrades behind)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    What’s happening?????????

  • Ming William Lee

I hope they could learn to write some proper changelogs.. It is disappointing when I need to test every bugs I know to see if they are fixed, and found many of them not…

  • Jacky

I would like to know as well…I hope hk is just delaying it becuz of hidden bugs and patching this update in a week or two.

  • indianmeister

If I flash a different región firmware will all bands be available as well? Or bands are región limited?

  • Marvin Lo

I just updated had the last system update yesterday. And it seems like my phone is starting to have overheating problem. Does anyone have the same issue?

  • azzido

Security updates making someone excited at all?

It’s like downloading signatures for your anti-virus…

  • Pascualon

well Have XZ1 Dual HK region and I’m still at 47.1.A.2.374 (3 upgrades behind)!!!,
why HK region is so slow?

  • Pascualon

same here with XZ1 dual stuck at 47.1.A.2.374 :(

  • MikeU

My XZ Premium Dual (XZP) is originally from HK region. Because of slow pace of updates from HK region, on Wednesday (17 January), I flashed my XZP Dual to India region using the updated Flashtool (, which is now compatible with all 2017 models.

  • pberruti

I was going to flash my HK based phone but then 47.1.A.8.49 appeared for my XZ1C. I am still one upgrade behind. Not decided to flash it yet.

  • Ama

somehow aftere watching few utube videos heats up xz1 c

  • Phantom

Why is the update for HK always so late? I have been waiting for it while other regions have got it.

  • Phantom

Did you do a factory reset after flashing? I don’t want to spend time backing up and restoring.

  • MikeU

I did not factory reset after flashing; in fact, after the flash, my XZP Dual functions normally.

  • Jacky

I’m still waiting for the xz1 update from hk…what’s going on….?

  • Kurt Kaufman

USA firmware still on August 5, 2017 security patch, and firmware 47.1.A.2.324. I wonder what is causing the delay?

  • Jacky

Possibly tmobile. They need to certify for WiFi calling

  • Kurt Kaufman

@Jacky, do you think that the “standard” GMS general release for AT&T and its various MVOs would be held up by T-Mobile? It’s just weird to be so delayed compared to just about any other region (except apparently Hong Kong).

  • Paul

Some have complained that Sony Mobile has gradually removed signature software features, in particular, the deep theming that went across its custom email, messaging, calendar, etc. But I think the removal of those features is what has allowed such fast and frequent software updates. They don’t have to do as much testing by keeping the core software simple.

  • Jacky

I think its held up by tmobile cuz xz1c has tmobile WiFi calling support. But the xz1 doesn’t so that’s why their updates are ahead of the compact

  • Kurt Kaufman

Perhaps. But would there also be WiFi calling support for a carrier in Hong Kong (which also is behind in updates)?

  • Jacky

possibly, but i’m not sure cuz i’m using my phone in the US even though I flashed it with HK

  • MikeU

I used Flashtool ( and was successful. If possible, try again.

  • Anirban Banerjee

Bug with 47.1.A.12.34 – GPS icon always on in XZP and XZ1:

And I have XZP, and yes facing this issue – tried reboot/reset/turning location services off, nothing has worked so far…

So be ready for these kind of bugs in a brand new release….

  • Nomak

XZ1 Compact here, after the update same problem, same solutions attempted, same outcome. At least it’s good to know that it is only a bug and that there isn’t anything actually using location data and draining battery.

  • Anirban Banerjee

XZP India OTA received just now – latest firmware 47.1.A.12.75. Shall update screenshot once completed…

  • Koh Yuan Chen

They used to have some changelogs but recently, they have removed it.
