Xperia XZ2 wireless charging support confirmed in latest pic

in Rumours

Sony Mobile will bring wireless charging support to its upcoming Xperia XZ2 flagship. This is the first time that Sony has introduced integrated wireless charging support for its mainstream global model. Sony had previously adopted wireless charging, but only for select models targeted to the US market, such as the Xperia Z3v and Z4v for Verizon, the latter which ended up being cancelled.

The latest leaked picture of the Xperia XZ2 from Evan Blass (@evleaks) confirms that it will support wireless charging, showing the phone in a dock, which no doubt Sony will charge a pretty penny for. We hope that Sony uses an open standard, such as Qi wireless charging, which would mean you could use any cheap dock to charge the phone. We’ll bring you more news on Monday at the official launch.

Thanks to all that sent this in!

  • DonRox

This phone looks more like an Xperia X2 than an XZ2

  • Itsarapong Intoum

Nice, But I just ordered type c dock for my XZ1…

  • XperiaS

    Looks like Xperia X successor

  • The charger goes in line with Sony technology and design language. It reminds of Xperia Touch

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

This is what that teaser meant haha, BTW it looks like a speaker too. Hope the phone looks nice in real life. Also hope it has dual cameras?

  • Talos the Robot

The good old Magnetic charging was far better than wireless charging. Wireless charging is not efficient, heats up the device, degrades the battery faster and it is another field of electromagnetic radiation in your home. No thanks!

that bottom bezel though! ugly as fuck! :( not sure which phone to buy now since all i have ever used (personally) was sony phones.

  • Suhail

    Looks ugly.

  • Suhail

    Bottom bezel looks shit.

  • Suhail

    Still looks crap

  • Juan Carlos

I like the design, It’s like an Xperia X with less bezels, but definitely it’s a SONY!! This phone should be called Xperia X2 instead of Xperia XZ2!!

  • Juan Carlos

    Those renders looks very nice!

  • Juan Carlos

NO!! looks good! can’t wait to see the real device!

  • Juan Carlos

Yeah! those renders looks very good, it’s like an Xperia X with less bezels, but definitely it’s a SONY!!

  • Alvin

Magnetic charger is a nightmare to use. I’m rocking my Z3 with magnetic charger and I can’t get over at how complicated it is to use magnetic charger. I can’t use it without accidental shifting of the charger, making the phone stop charging and reloading every app I run at the time.

  • jonathan

i’ll skip this one can’t handle the fact that the back is different front the front.

  • FunTime

Are you using the original magnetic dock? Mine works great.
    I also have the
Sony BSC10 dock ( ), charges very fast and is rock solid.
Magnetic charging combines the advantages of cable charging and wireless charging(one hand to place the device).

  • 振萌 徐

    wow,good looking

  • Khalid Abdi

Its nice and beautiful and most importantly a Sony design which was Xperia X and X Performance.
By the way, this is the initial design before the go completely bezel less, in the next coming years they will use more OLED and Acoustic Surface Audio and reduce the bezels

  • Alvin

No, I’m using Magtron and Wsken. I don’t use a dock because of how expensive it is lol

  • DBS

Hey, look! Sony finallf mama it to 2012! About time… Lol

Shame they’re still not adding OIS, AMOLAM and ruined the fingerprint scanner.

  • DanielGearSolid

This looks way better than the leaks yesterday

  • Battal

If they want charge every penny for it then Sony will not use an open standard for wireless charging, remember what Sony did with QC 3 ?

  • Night Guy

    Front looks beautiful asf.

  • Akand

How can these be Xperia flagships made by Sony?? By no means these look Sony device to me. No signature is present there. Mostly missed side mounted power button. How can they adopt such a generic button design?? Disastrously disappointed this time. XZ1 compact is way better option for me.

  • Akand

Look at the power button, it can’t be a Sony. It MUST be a Chinese phone, most like Huawei.

  • Alvin

I’m only disappointed with how bad the power button really is (at least it is made from metal). The rear arrangements of the cameras, sensors, and fps just look weird and need some time to get used to.

  • Akand

Sony phones always used to be solid and xtremely high in usability, while others are trying to be fancy. But these phones are neither fancy nor good in usability. Placement of FPS is just a dumb idea. Xtremely inconvenient. If they had to change the power button, they could have gone back to old circular design.
For me only problem is I couldn’t find a Xperia replacement.

  • erizlovect shahrizal

    Xz2 pro,xz2 and xz2 compact.

  • Nguyễn Tấn Lộc

Not too bad, but I have a few questions about this:
-Why does it not have side-mounted fingerprint scanner yet the side bezels is still just about the same as previous model?
-Top and bottom bezels sure got improved but it is still not as much as other competitors, not to mention why isn’t it equal in size?
-Why should it be two shape for the speaker?
-Why don’t they keep the round power button?
-Why the volume button so high?
-Why the rear fingerprint scanner so low?
-It has class back so why does it still need antenna line?

  • Kal-El

Nice pics. However, I don’t see a headphone jack :<

  • PoweredBySony

This looks better than the compact but sony fucked up bad by putting different speakers on front. I preffere the bottom one

  • Senior Deplorable

The design is good, but Sony has made severe regressions for the sake of following others rather than leading. A fingerprint sensor in the power button is superior, and the removal of the headphone jack is simply idiotic.

  • PoweredBySony

If the fp sensor was keept in the power button then they will be forced to sell phones with the fp diasbled in US. Sony want’s a bit from the us market and that’s why they made this choise.

  • monoke

So ugly for words. Uneven top/bottom bezels. Uneven speaker grills just so they can the precious logo to the bottom. Lol.
Wireless charging don’t matter when phone is this ugly.

  • Tadija Djurovic
  • RockStar2005

    Yes!! STILL Sony!!!

  • kurakuradisco

    looks like my xperia x

  • RockStar2005

I agree. I had the magnetic charger and it was pretty cool actually. My issues with wireless charging are: 1) If you don’t place it right on the pad, it won’t charge, esp that GARBAGE Samsung one I was using on my old S7 2) Yes, it heats up the device which results in diminished battery life in the long run 3) I believe the fastest wireless charger only does QC 2.0, right? So not a match for wired QC 3.0, which is what I use now.

  • RockStar2005

I hope so Khalid! Acoustic Surface makes A LOT more sense on smartphones than it does on TVs.

  • RockStar2005

Correct. I would prefer the FS stayed in the Power button too, but I’d rather see Sony Mobile succeed here in the U.S. FOR ONCE! lol

  • RockStar2005

I don’t think it will matter. The top one is shorter but wider, so prob same overall sound quality.

  • Szabó Béla

Don’t blame the good one if you tried the shitty only.

  • Khalid Abdi

Actually Acoustic Surface makes sense on both the TV, the smartphone, the tablet, the laptop and the all in one PC. So it does make sense on everything.

  • RockStar2005

It makes less sense on the Sony TVs b/c anyone who can afford their higher end TVs that actually HAVE Acoustic Surface are also HIGHLY likely to already own at least a soundbar if not a full 5.1 surround sound system. lol

On smartphone, tablet, and laptop though, I FULLY agree with you.

  • Khalid Abdi

No if you have an acoustic surface audio in your TV, then you don’t a sound bar because you have something even better and looks realistic when your looking at the TV and hearing the sound. BTW Dolby can use that tech too on their partner’s TVs

and glad you agree with me :)

  • RockStar2005

But can AS actually compare to like a 5.1 surround sound system? I find that hard to believe. lol MAYBE a soundbar, but vs. 5.1 not so sure.

Cool on Dolby using AS too.

  • gFan

Does wireless charger also a speaker? Its going to cost a ton for sure?
SONY making gadgets for cheap in China and selling for premium price in USA and Europe. Cheap business model doesn’t help SONY.

  • Khalid Abdi

Yes it can because your only seeing the first gen of the tech but in the next few year’s gen, you will see how powerful it will be besides don’t forget about the microLED because its thinner than the OLED meaning it it will even more powerful than the gens that were in the OLED TVs

  • Khalid Abdi

BTW all of the companies do that so why criticising Sony for it

  • gFan

Not all companies charging premium price like SONY.

  • RockStar2005

Hmm ok. I dunno. I’d have to be in a room where I could compare both to really judge it. But it SOUND promising!!

  • Khalid Abdi

Well glad you get me and you can when it comes in the next few years :)
And don’t forget that all of the companies will do it on their OLED line ups

  • Khalid Abdi

    Oh really!!!!!
    What about the iPhone??????

  • gFan

Sure does SONY got same quality as iPhone???. I am ready to pay 650$ for SONY XZ2 compact but does it support wireless charging? BTW the XZ2 looks gorgeous except back but XZ2 compact is compromise for premium price.

  • Khalid Abdi

LOL its about quality. It’s about the name and the brand.
Look Sony will make wireless they’re saying in the leaks so sooner or later they will have though that wireless is not a true wireless because in a wireless should be you can use your phone will charging with 5m radius.
BTW Sony had in Xperia Z and have a charging dock in the current phones which is the same concept of the wireless that is presented now.

The designs are beautiful but wait for the XZ2 Pro/Premium

  • Khalid Abdi

By the way go check old Sony phones because this design came from them not a copy from the other companies.

  • gFan

I have no issues with design. But whenever I wanted to jump from iPhone all I see is one or two compromises. Last year it was FPS and this year wireless charging. Also carrier support is an issue with SONY.

  • gFan

And SONY also too late to the party most of the time.

  • Khalid Abdi

I know but for the fingerprint it temporary because soon they will use their tech the finger print under the glass and this year it won’t because I think this time it will get supported by the carriers

  • RockStar2005

    I get you? lol

Yeah we’ll see. Eventually I will need to upgrade my Sony Bravia TV, but not in a big rush cuz still works GREAT! Will be 10 years old this December.

  • Khalid Abdi

Well they had their mistakes and are in a bad place but don’t blame them. Blame the one who are leaders in the market and cannot innovate and copying like Apple, Samsung and Huawei

  • Khalid Abdi

    LOL :D
    Yeah and cool
I have a bravia too which will turn after 2 years 10 years but i won’t buy anything lol

  • Okazuma

I have the answer for 1st question.
Side finger sensor violating some patent in US.
Sony decided to remove it from all the new phones

  • RockStar2005

Well if it’s still working why would you need to buy a new one? lol

  • Khalid Abdi

I’m not buying because I will skip what is present right now and wait for the microLED

  • Alvin

    What are you talking about?

I don’t use a dock because I can’t carry it around. Sony doesn’t make a magnetic cable. Both of my cables are the best you could find anywhere.

  • RockStar2005

    Oh ok

  • paul_cus

Can’t wait to see the phone.

  • Me

XZ2 rear looks ugly. I prefer past Xperia design(rear only)

  • azzido

Where is rumored dual camera with OIS??? Where is OLED screen? Where is headphone jack? Why so small batteries, smaller than in mid rangers? Why you crapped fingerprint sensor?

    Goodbye sony.

  • azzido

    Sony is no longer relevant.

  • Khalid Abdi

  • Moisés

Oled is not good for computer.

Burn in will show up faster.
Much more static images like the menus of all programs.

  • Nguyễn Tấn Lộc

Yeah I’m not opposed to them doing that. But if they chose to do so why couldn’t they make the side bezels like XA line…

  • GraphiteEdge

Annoyingly other companies are willing to pay whatever fee the patent holder (I heard it was HP) wants. Razor phone for example. I wish sony would just pay the licensing fee.

  • Khalid Abdi

I know and its not only in the computer but also with everything else. But good thing is that they can fix the burn in but can’t at the same due to its expensive build
