Google has released the first official details of Android 3.0 (Honeycomb), that is designed with tablets in mind. New features include a new “holographic” UI theme along with multitasking, notifications, widgets and multicore processor support
The new Android version also gives developers the tools necessary to adapt existing apps to the new UI whilst also maintaining backwards compatibility. You can find the full details on exactly what it offers here. It’s still unclear how this release (targeted to tablets) will affect the smartphone Android releases. It could be that Android 2.X will be for smartphones, whilst Android 3.X will be for tablets. Hopefully, all will be revealed soon.
