Three of the new Sony Ericsson Xperia range (Xperia arc, Xperia neo and Xperia pro) all come with a mini-HDMI connector. This allows you to easily connect your handset to the TV to show off pictures/videos to friends & family, play games on a bigger screen or maybe watch movies whilst away from home.
We have already shown one video that demonstrates this to great effect, but we’ve come across another that demonstrates another marketable feature – the ability to use your TV remote to control the gallery once connected via HDMI. This means you can scroll through content on your handset in the comfort of your sofa, rather than being tethered to your TV.
This feature will work with any TV as long as it has a HDMI output that is CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) compatible. Most TV’s with HDMI v1.3 inputs will most likely carry the technology. Each TV will use its own brand for this CEC feature. Sony calls it Bravia Sync, Panasonic calls it Viera Link and Samsung calls it Anynet+. The function only works for items in the gallery (photos and videos) rather than controlling games or web browsing. See more in the video below, the action starts at around 1m:11s.
