O2 UK delays Xperia PLAY launch

O2O2 UK has delayed the launch of the Xperia PLAY due to software “bugs”. Stuart Hibberd, the head of O2’s device testing team says that they are currently working with Sony Ericsson to iron out these bugs “over the next couple of weeks”. O2 hasn’t specified exactly when it plans to launch the handset, remember O2 have the exclusive white version in the UK, but we can’t imagine that’d want to delay it beyond a month.

The interesting part is that O2 UK claims that the problem stems from the “software on the phone, not anything O2 branded.” It’s difficult to know whether O2 have found something that all other carriers haven’t, or if their testing is more stringent, however so far we’ve not heard of any other operator globally that has had problems. As far as we know the launch for the Xperia PLAY is still on track for the 31 March for other carriers.
