MAME4droid Xperia PLAYSony Ericsson Xperia PLAY owners have another reason to rejoice as a new MAME emulator has just been released onto the Android Market. MAME4droid is a port of MAME 0.37b5 from the MAME Team. The app has been developed by Seleuco, who also developed the Xpectroid ZX Spectrum Emulator.

MAME4droid emulates over 2000 different romsets. Unfortunately, MAME4droid does not have “save states” since it is based on a MAME version that does not support it. It supports all Android devices running Android 2.1 and higher including native support for Honeycomb tablets. To get it working, once installed you need to place your MAME-titled zipped roms in /sdcard/ROMs/MAME4all/roms folder. The emulator is available for free in the Android Market right now. See a video of it in action below.
