Virtua Tennis ChallengeThere has been a lot of news on the Xperia PLAY games front recently, so we thought we’d round up the key bits and pieces for all you Xperia PLAY owners. The next Minecraft – Pocket Edition update has been dated, we also see some of the first video from Virtua Tennis Challenge. Kristen Schaal is also back in another video promoting the Xperia PLAY. Plus, check out the latest video from the XperiaGamer team, where they run through some recent hits including GTAIII, Sonic CD and Modern Combat 3.

AstroComet: This puzzler is Xperia PLAY optimised and includes 105 levels across seven galaxies.

Bomberman Online: This multiplayer classic is now Xperia PLAY optimised.

Great Little War Game: This is a 3D turn-based strategy game with a light-hearted comical style. It has been optimised for Xperia PLAY, see a video of it in action below.

Minecraft – Pocket Edition: Mojang recently came out and said that it has turned around the direction of development following feedback from the community. “We had an initial plan of making Minecraft – Pocket Edition more like Minecraft Creative. But alas we were wrong. This means that the initial code we had written didn’t exactly fit with the new plan where we wanted to add all the stuff you have been asking for. So we have been reorganizing, rewritten and changed the whole plan for Minecraft – Pocket Edition,” said Daniel Kaplan on the official blog. The main feature of the update (due on 8 February 2012) is expected to be support for the survival aspects of the game. Mojang has also promised that future updates will be turned around a lot quicker.

PES 2012: Sony Ericsson released another funny Kristen Schaal video, this time promoting the release of Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 on the Xperia PLAY. We love Schaal, especially for her ability to be self-deprecating.

Video from XperiaGamer: The guys over at XperiaGamer released one of their latest roundup videos where they walk through a number of games on the Xperia PLAY. In this episode they showcase GTAIII, Sonic CD, Riptide GP, A Space Shooter for Free, The Adventures of Tintin, Sleepy Jack, Modern Combat 3 and ShadowGun. The video is well worth 14 minutes of your life.

Virtua Tennis Challenge: Sega’s Mike Han talks through the game, which has been optimised for the Xperia PLAY and will be an exclusive on launch. Han confirms the game will have different stadiums, around 25 different players and 11 different play styles. As big Virtua Tennis fans, going all the way back to the Dreamcast, this is one game we are very much looking forward to.
