CyanogenMod 9 (based on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich) is getting closer to a formal ‘stable’ launch. The RC1 (release candidate) build has been announced, highlighting that the ‘core’ OS is now stabilised. Four Sony Xperia handsets have made the initial launch of CM9.0 (RC1) and this includes the Xperia PLAY (R800i and R800x), Xperia ray, Xperia mini and Xperia active.

This is especially good news for Xperia PLAY owners, since Sony Mobile is not planning on updating the handset past Android 2.3. This means owners can take matters into their own hands if they are truly longing for an ICS experience. For further details including download links for each handset click here.
