‘Xperia Tablet’ details leaked; 9.4-inch display, Tegra 3, aluminium splash-proof body

A slide pack allegedly showing details of Sony’s new tablet has surfaced. One of the more interesting parts of the leak is that Sony will unify its Xperia branding for both smartphones and tablets. It sounds like Sony will use the Xperia brand for all mobile technology and this new product could be the first ‘Xperia Tablet’ to be released.

The spec sheet shows that the new tablet will have the same 9.4-inch (1280 x 800) display as the Tablet S but will run the Tegra 3 chipset. It will also have a 1.0M front camera and 8.0m rear camera. The slides also highlight a 10-hour browsing time on its 6000mAh battery. It shows that the device will have a similar wedge design as carried by the Sony Tablet S but will be thinner by 42% and come with an aluminium splash-proof body.

Another interesting feature is Guest Mode which allows different members of the family to share one tablet at home, something sorely lacking from current tablets. This enables you to create a guest home where you can limit what applications are displayed and even customise wallpaper for guest users.

A number of accessories are also highlighted including a cover with integrated keyboard, charging cradle, docking stand, dock speaker, tablet stand and carrying case.

Pricing details have also been leaked highlighting three different variants with the 16GB at $449.99, 32GB at $549.99 and 64GB at $649.99. The source of these slides claim he works for Sony and was sent the slide-pack. This would certainly be an elaborate hoax if they turn out to be fake and the slides look genuine enough to us. The Xperia tablet is due to launch in September 2012 if the source is to be believed.
