Sony Mobile to withdraw from Korean market?

in Rumours

Reports from South Korean media are suggesting that Sony Mobile may be close to withdrawing from the mobile phone market in the country. It seems that Sony Mobile Communications Korea is being subsumed within Sony Korea as it winds down its mobile operations in the region, leading to a rumoured total exit from the market.

We know at one point, for example, that the Sony Xperia T was being planned for Korea with LT30k model number, but it never made it to the market. If the rumours are true, it would follow some other high profile mobile manufacturers such as HTC and Motorola, who have recently left the South Korean market. This is hardly a surprise considering the dominance of Samsung in its home territory and Sony Mobile’s efforts are probably better served elsewhere.
