Sony Mobile announced earlier today that it has completed its transfer of the headquarters from Lund, Sweden to Tokyo, Japan. Sony expects the move will help it to leverage its strength with its other business units. The new head office will be used to develop new products as well as designing new Xperia smartphones.
Sony commenced moving headquarters back in October 2012 with around 1,000 jobs lost in Sweden (650 full time and the balance being consultants) by March 2014. At the time, Sony said the move would “enhance operational and development capabilities” of the company such as “time to market efficiency, streamline supply chain management and drive greater integration with the wider Sony group.”
