All signs are pointing to a new Sony SmartWatch being announced next week at the Mobile Asia Expo 2013 in Shanghai. Sony Mobile has tweeted a few messages with the hashtags #itstime and #MAE13 (the latter standing for Mobile Asia Expo). One of the tweets says “One in three smartphone users want smart wrist wear”, whilst another points to Sony’s heritage in this space “Wearable tech is in our DNA. Remember WALKMAN, now…?”
We know that Sony is holding a media event in Shanghai next week and there are various press events taking place in Europe on 25 June. Whilst much focus has surrounded the announcement of the company’s 6.4-inch phablet, it looks like it will also announce a refresh of its SmartWatch. Given how many smart watch competitors have sprung onto the scene over the last year, it will be interesting to see what Sony has up its sleeve.
