There have been numerous reports for months that Sony Mobile is planning to launch a 5-inch handset with quad-core MediaTek chipset, most likely the MT6589 SoC. Well now we have some solid information from a trusted source of this handset, which is due to be announced at the Mobile Asia Expo in Shanghai tomorrow.
The Sony Xperia C (codenamed CN3) is expected to be announced alongside the company’s Xperia Z Ultra phablet tomorrow. It will sport a 5-inch qHD (540 x 960) display, 1.2GHz quad-core chipset (we don’t have official confirmation of which one exactly, but we’d be surprised if it wasn’t MediaTek), 1GB RAM and 4GB of internal storage along with microSD memory card support.
Other features include a 8MP Exmor R (not RS) camera. The handset will be quite thin at 8.88mm in thickness and launch with Android 4.2.2. The Xperia C will be launched in China and other selected markets. We’ll bring you full details when it officially launches tomorrow.
