Xperia SP_12.0.A.2.250Sony Mobile has certified an even newer firmware version for the Xperia SP, just as we saw build 12.0.A.2.245 start to roll out yesterday. The new firmware version number 12.0.A.2.250 was certified by the PTCRB for all three variants of the Xperia SP including the C5302, C5303 and C5306. If we do see this firmware released, it is likely to bring only small improvements over the big ‘245’ update, which brought an expanded quick setting panel and transparent UI in the notification and virtual keys.

For those that are currently running the 12.0.A.2.245 firmware on the Xperia SP, you may be glad to hear that DooMLoRD from xda-developers has managed to root the firmware. The method involves using the kernel on which the root exploit works (Sony recently patched the previous exploit), root the device and then flash back to the newest kernel. More information can be found here.

Thanks Anurag, Ben and DooMLoRD!
