Sony NSZ-GU1_1Sony could soon be releasing its own answer to Google’s Chromecast device judging by documents and photos released by the FCC. The images reveal a dongle with model number NSZ-GU1 and the words “Internet Player”. The dongle appears to have a HDMI-in port and MHL-out (720p video) along with an IR Blaster sensor and ‘Connect’ button.

The device is made by ODM Wistron with a spec-sheet that includes a Marvell DE3108 SoC, 8GB of flash memory, 1GB of RAM, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0. The manual points to the fact that the dongle will receive power from a television’s USB connection. It’s unclear whether the NSZ-GU1’s functions mirror that of the Google Chromecast or whether it will be used for mirroring a mobile device. We may see the device appear at IFA in Berlin next week, the confidentiality request expired on 29 August.
