Earlier in the year, there were rumours that Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo was testing the Xperia Z Ultra. As noted by this post back in March, there were reports that it was being paraded around but at the time we were unsure whether DoCoMo would pick it up. In the end, it turns out DoCoMo decided not to run with it, but judging by the picture below there were prototypes flying around.
The picture below is from an official Sony Mobile blog post from July 2013 where some of the designers of the Xperia Z Ultra talked about the ideas behind its creation. One of the pictures showed a developer with a NTT DoCoMo branded Xperia Z Ultra. Sony has picked up on the last few hours and changed the image, but not before we managed to save it down. It’s interesting that Sony has decided not to sell the Xperia Z Ultra in Japan, but judging by the image, it seems they thought very long and hard before coming to that decision.
