Sony has released its fiscal Q2 results for the three months to 30 September 2013 confirming that it has sold 10 million Xperia smartphones during that period. This compares to 9.6 million smartphones sold in the previous quarter (Q1 2013) and 8.8 phones during the same period last year (Q2 2012).
The overall forecast for smartphone units in FY13 remains unchanged at 42 million, however Sony cut its Group profit forecast by 40% from 50 billion yen to 40 billion yen citing challenges in its film, camera and PC divisions. Sony expects to continue targeting the premium smartphone category as it confirmed that the Xperia Z held a top three position in terms of revenue in over 20 countries. No indication of Xperia Z1 sales were given as it falls outside the quarter.
