n2_add2_img1Sony has announced that its QX10 and QX100 lens-style cameras will receive a big firmware update in January adding a number of new features. This includes 1080p video recording (1920×1080@30p in MP4), as well as higher ISO settings. The QX10 camera will be expanded from max ISO 1600 to max ISO 3200. The QX100 camera will be expanded from max ISO 3200 to max ISO 12800. In addition, the QX100 will get a Shutter Priority (“S”) mode allowing direct access control to shutter speed.

In the meantime, you may want to update the PlayMemories Mobile application to version 4.0. The update intros an embedded photo browser, allowing seamless navigation between shooting images and viewing images in playback mode. The iOS app also has improved connectivity speed, with twice as quick start-up times compared to the previous version. Sony plans to release another update in Spring 2014 that will bring this improved connectivity speed to Android.
