We recently reported on the fact that the Xperia Z1 Compact appeared to have a plastic back, instead of a glass back as seen with its bigger brother, the Xperia Z1. Further proof surrounded the white paper for the device, where Sony removed the reference to “both the front and back are made of durable tempered glass”.
Well Sony has just revised the white paper once again and now explicitly confirms that the rear is indeed made from plastic:
“The front side of the phone is made of durable tempered glass, and the back side is made of high-rigid plastic sheet.”
We are sure the confusion on this issue lay in miscommunication rather than any purposeful deceit on Sony’s part. Hopefully, this puts the issue to rest. The Xperia Z1 Compact is still a premium phone and the plastic back may even mean it is in fact more resistant to knocks.
