Sony has finally made available the unlocked LTE version of the Xperia Z1 (C6906) in the United States. The phone is being sold through the Sony Store website for $619.99 in all three colours (black, purple and white). However, only the black version is in stock at the time posting. The purple and white colours are backordered with an estimated ship date of 30 April 2014.
The unlocked HSPA+ version of the Xperia Z1 (C6902) went on sale last October. Since then, T-Mobile US had exclusivity of the LTE-enabled Xperia Z1s ( C6916), which launched in January. The Xperia Z1s comes with 32GB of internal storage (16GB in the C6906) and a change in placement of the front-facing camera. We imagine that T-Mobile had a timed exclusivity on the LTE model before Sony was allowed to offer the unlocked version.
The question for US buyers is how interested are you – especially now that the Xperia Z2 has been announced? Obviously, who knows when Sony will release the Xperia Z2 into the US, after all Sony’s track record here isn’t great. We’d love to hear your opinions below.
Thanks Matt!
