One of the genuine surprises in yesterday’s Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the Xperia T2 Ultra and T2 Ultra Dual is that Sony is now giving users the options to move their applications to SD card.
If you click on an individual app within Settings > Apps you will now be presented with an option to “Move to SD card”. Within Settings > Apps, Sony has also added another column called “On SD card”, showing at a glance which of your apps are on the SD card. See the screenshots below to get a better look at this.
This is a fabulous move by Sony and one which we didn’t expect. It means that Sony’s entry level Xperia models needn’t be hampered by low storage specs in the move to KitKat. We would expect this apps to SD card feature to be included in the upcoming Xperia E1 and Xperia M2 KitKat updates.
It is strange why we haven’t seen this feature filter to the premium Xperia Z series yet, especially as some of these devices are already seeing Android 4.4.4. Perhaps, Sony hasn’t got round to it yet, or maybe Sony is keeping this feature for the lower-end models where storage is an issue. We’ll know soon enough as future updates start to roll.
Update: The video below highlights moving apps to the SD card.
