One of the downsides of sporting such large sensors is having to accommodate it in a smartphone body that manufacturers are trying to drive ever thinner. The compromise is a hump where the optics sit, both the 808 PureView and Lumia 1020 have a hump on their backs.
The recent rumours around Sony’s new 2/3-inch curved sensor got us wondering how Sony would make space for the chip. Sony already uses a 1/2.3-inch sensor in the Xperia Z2, whose body is only 8.2mm in thickness. So maybe, Sony could find a way to include such a chip without compromising on the design. However, a hump still would remain a possibility.
What we wanted to ask you is would a hump on a future Xperia smartphone bother you? Would you rather Sony did all it could do on the imaging side and thus sacrificing design? Or does in fact the design mean more to you then a spec bump on the camera side? We’d love to know where you stand on this in the comments below.
