Xperia Z2 AOSPSony Mobile has added the Xperia M2, Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z2 to its “AOSP for Xperia” project. In addition to this, Sony has also updated the AOSP for the Xperia Z. Sources are now available on the SonyXperiaDev GitHub, which gives developers the tools to help with making their own custom ROMs. AOSP limitations include the fact that the modem is not enabled to make calls and neither is the camera working.

Sony has also announced that it has started to use a unified kernel for devices based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8974 platform. This includes the Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact, Z2, Z2 Tablet, Z3, Z3 Compact and Z3 Tablet Compact. Previously, Sony used a different kernel branch for each device in its AOSP projects. A unified kernel will make it easier for developers as there is just one kernel across devices. The unified kernel is published as a separate GitHub.
