Sony has announced that the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) version of Android 5.0 Lollipop is now running on the Xperia Z1, Z2 and Z3. This follows Google releasing the source code earlier in the week.
If you are looking to try Android Lollipop AOSP on your device, then Sony will be providing the necessary binary files soon enough. These binaries can then be used to create your own custom ROM. The device configurations for the Xperia Z1 and Z2 will be updated and Sony says they are coming soon for the Z3.
Interestingly, Sony has also commented on the Lollipop beta that we reported on yesterday and says that it will “be monitoring interest, reaction and the success of this project with a view to rolling out similar initiatives in other markets next year.” There is hope yet to all those outside of Sweden.
