Xperia RAW cameraSo how badly do you want to see RAW image capture on your Sony Xperia smartphone? Rickard from the Sony Mobile support forums confirmed what we’ve already known up until now, that it does not support RAW capture within Lollipop. This is despite Android 5.0 supporting this feature within the Camera2 API.

As you might expect, he goes on to say that the door isn’t shut on incorporating RAW in the future, but it depends on how much demand there is for it. So let’s hear you – if you’d like to see RAW image capture supported, voice your opinion below.

Why does Sony not support the Camera2 API within Lollipop firmware?

“Android 5.0 supports the new camera features via android.hardware.camera2, and Google defines three modes for the new camera features:

1. Legacy mode (no support RAW capture)
2. Limited mode (optional capability for RAW capture)
3. Full mode (optional capability for RAW capture)

Currently, Xperia supports Legacy mode in our Lollipop update which incorporate features and functionality in addition to our already renowned camera experience. As always, we monitoring our customer expectations and regarding supporting taking pictures in RAW format, we will consider this for the future if there is a popular demand.”
