Smartphones with Quad HD (QHD) resolution displays are starting to become more prevalent on flagship devices, but don’t expect such a feature from Sony any time soon. Jonathan Lin, general manager of Sony Mobile’s Taiwan branch, recently said that despite many internal discussions regarding a move to a resolution of 2K (1440 x 2560 pixels), convincing the consumers of the ‘upgrade’ remains difficult.
“At the moment, making the move to 2K technology on 5- to 5.5-inch screens does not seem able to achieve market segmentation, so we have no plans to launch 2K phones,” said Lin. He went on to say that the move to QHD will need to wait until Sony Mobile can make “significant improvements in display quality and digital image processing technology.”
The big concerns around QHD smartphones is battery life and whether users would even be able to tell the difference between FHD and QHD resolution on a 5-inch screen. Would you like to see a 2K screen on a future Sony Xperia smartphone? If so we’d love to hear your reasons why below.
