Has Sony discontinued the Xperia Z3 Compact in the United States?

Xperia Z3 Compact discontinuedSony Mobile doesn’t break down sales numbers within its Xperia range – we don’t get to see exactly which models shifted the highest volumes. However, if we were to take a guess as to its best sellers this year, we’re sure the Xperia Z3 Compact would be towards the top. It won rave reviews and owners seem to love them.

This is why we find it perplexing that Sony Mobile US appears to have discontinued the Xperia Z3 Compact. As if the Sony Xperia fans in the US haven’t had it hard enough already with little love shown by carriers, now if they wanted to purchase the Xperia Z3 Compact it would proved to be a frustrating experience.

The official Sony Store US website does not list the Xperia Z3 Compact for sale, this is even though the older Xperia Z1 Compact is still being sold. Instead a quick search on the site will now show the Xperia Z3 Compact sitting in the ‘Discontinued Product’ section.

The situation isn’t much better from third-party retailers. Amazon has stock of the white and green models, but delivery isn’t expected for another 2-3 weeks. Best Buy has the Orange Xperia Z3 Compact in stock (the Black is sold out online). Newegg also has the Orange model on offer as well as Black, although the latter is open box only.

This doesn’t tell a story of plentiful supply. We’re not sure whether Sony is pulling back stock due to low demand or whether other issues at play here. However, as pointed out earlier it does seem strange that Sony may have decided to discontinue the Z3 Compact when older Xperia models are still being happily sold. If we hear any further confirmation either way we’ll keep you posted.
