We brought exclusive news back in February that Sony was planning to launch the SmartBand 2 SWR12 with heart rate sensor. Well you can pretty much bank on Sony announcing the new accessory very soon as the “SmartBand 2” companion app has just been pushed to the Google Play Store.
The pictures in the Play Store listing show the new SmartBand, confirming that it will have a heart rate sensor on the underside of the SmartBand module. This is also confirmed in the app screenshots which says the “SmartBand measures your pulse at an even rate throughout the day,” whilst giving an indication of your BPM (beats per minute) ‘right now’.
The Google Play Store listing says that the SmartBand 2 SWR12 is “an innovative life logging wrist band that tracks your body effort through pulse and HRV (heart rate variability), keeps track of your movements and your sleep.” Like other recent Sony SmartWear products, the SmartBand 2 SWR12 can be used to smoothly wake you up in the morning. It will also notify if you receive a call, text or other social message.
Sony goes on to say that the SmartBand 2 app is optimized for Sony Xperia smartphones and that “functionality may not be optimal when using SmartBand 2 with other smartphones”. The SmartBand 2 build number pushed to the Google Play Store is version 1.0.129.
Thanks Elmar and ???!
