z3plus-featuredConcerns around thermal management and overheating have been dogging the Sony Xperia Z4/Z3+ over the last few weeks. Dutch site GSMinfo.nl recently received their review sample and found in their initial testing that the Xperia Z3+ tended to overheat frequently. The camera or certain intensive games would automatically close after a few minutes due to excessive heat.

On contacting Sony about these issues, it issued a statement to the site saying that these problems are limited to small number of phones. Sony also said that it will be releasing an update this summer to address this heating issue. This software fix could involve more throttling to keep the temperatures down.

“The Xperia Z3+ is a high-performance 64-bit octa-core device with advanced camera technology, in some cases, additional heat can cause functions to stop. Enabling applications can also be felt by the user through the glass on the back. This is normal for the unit and should cause no concern.”
