Sony Mobile has officially unveiled the newest member of its flagship Z series in the form of the Xperia Z5 (E6603, E6653) and Xperia Z5 Dual (E6633, E6683). The key additions in Sony’s latest flagship is the inclusion of a fingerprint sensor power button, along with a 23MP Exmor RS rear camera capable of a super-quick 0.03 second hybrid autofocus, the fastest in the world.
The Sony Xperia Z5 features a 23MP 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS rear camera sensor with F2.0 G Lens – it is the first completely re-designed smartphone camera module since the Xperia Z1. Sony says it has been designed in conjunction with Sony’s Alpha ? camera engineers. The Xperia Z5 can focus within 0.037 seconds, faster than the blink of a human eye. It also has a 5.1MP Exmor R front-facing camera, unlike the 13MP front camera found on the Xperia M5 and C5 Ultra. However, like the Xperia M5, it does have 5x clear image zoom.
The new fingerprint sensor power button supports the FIDO standard for authentication and will allow an easy way to unlock your device “in one natural movement”. In terms of design, the Sony Xperia Z5 has a metal frame, frosted glass back and an etched XPERIA logo side engraving.
The Sony Xperia Z5 will feature a 5.2-inch 1080 x 1920 resolution IPS display with 424 PPI pixel density and a screen-to-phone ratio of 70.91%. It will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 MSM8994 chipset (2.0 GHz/1.5GHz octa-core processor and Adreno 430 GPU) and 3GB RAM.
Other specs include 32GB internal storage (21.7GB usable), IP65/IP68 certification for dust and water resistance, capless USB charging, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC and a 2900mAh ‘two-day’ battery. The handset also supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0.
The Sony Xperia Z5 has dimensions of 146 x 72 x 7.3mm and weighs 154 grams. The Sony Xperia Z5 is expected to launch in October 2015 with four different colours to choose from: White, Graphite Black, Gold and Green.
