Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 lands next year; to feature even faster charging

Qualcomm unveiled Quick Charge 3.0 earlier today, which is designed to be 38% more power efficient than Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 and will also take additional steps to help protect the battery life cycle of your mobile device. Other improvements over Quick Charge 2.0 includes faster charging by up to 27% and a reduction in power dissipation of up to 45%.

Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 will feature Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV), a new algorithm that will determine the right voltage to reach the desired current which will increase efficiency and optimise thermal performance. This is because Quick Charge 3.0 offers charging voltages in 200mV increments from 3.6V to 20V (Quick Charge 2.0 only offers four charging voltages at 5V, 9V, 12V and 20V).

Qualcomm says that, in a typical scenario, you will be able to power a phone from zero to 80% in 35 minutes. Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets next year including the Snapdragon 820, 620, 618, 617 and 430. Expect it to feature in Sony Xperia devices in 2016.
