Sony Mobile has a number of products that support the Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 standard. The advantage of this technology is super-speedy charging when using your device with a certified Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 charger. Sony has its own charger in the market called the Quick Charger UCH10.
Sony Mobile claims that a 10 minute charge using the UCH10 Quick Charger will give enough juice for 5.5 hours of usage for a phone. Equally, a 45 minute charge will ensure your phone lasts all day. For an Xperia Tablet, Sony says that a 30 minute charge is good enough for 3 hours of video playback time. Sounds impressive and thanks to Mobile Fun we were able to test these claims. Mobile Fun has the charger in stock for £19.99 and deliver worldwide. Read on for our impressions.
Any charger that is Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 certified will be able to power any device that supports the Quick Charge 2.0 standard. Therefore, this Sony UCH10 charger can be used with other devices and is also compatible with Samsung Adaptive Fast Charging technology.
Inside the box, you will find the UCH10 Quick Charger, UCB11 USB Cable and leaflet with the warranty information.
The UCH10 Quick Charger looks very similar to the EP880 or EP800. It is a lightweight product (45 grams) and reasonably small too (dimensions: 39 × 22 × 55 mm). In terms of output, the UCH10 is capable of 1800mA at 5V.
Sony’s user guide suggests that the Quick Charger UCH10 should only be used with the included UCB11 cable. For a list of compatible Xperia devices, check out the list at the end of this review.
Testing and Results
To test how fast the Sony UCH10 Quick Charger can charge a device, we used a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact and noted how quickly it would charge the device at various intervals. We ran the test three times and used the average numbers that you can see in the chart below.
The results show that the UCH10 charges the device at slightly higher than 1 percentage battery point in each minute. This compares favourably against the Sony EP880 charger (rated at 1.5mA at 5V), with the UCH10 being at least 50% faster across each time interval.
We’re not sure a 10 minute charge would really last 5.5 hours as Sony claims. For us, it only delivered a 13% charge during that time. Obviously, it depends on how you would use your phone during that time – if left on standby it could last that long but we still feel that is optimistic. We also tested how long it would take to charge the Xperia Z4 Tablet during one run and it took just shy of two and a half hours, a respectable performance.
Therefore, the Sony UCH10 Quick Charger broadly appears to live up to its claims. If you own one of the compatible devices listed below, the UCH10 is a worthy investment, especially if like to charge your device during the day, rather than leave it to charge overnight. Mobile Fun sell the Sony UCH10 Quick Charger for £19.99 and can deliver worldwide.
