Sony ForwardWorksPlayStation Mobile no longer exists, but it appears that Sony still has ambitions in the smartphone gaming space as it today announced it has formed a new company called ForwardWorks to do just that. ForwardWorks will leverage the IP of “numerous PlayStation dedicated software titles and its gaming characters” for ‘full-fledged’ games optimised for smartphones. Sony says the focus will be on the Japanese and Asian markets and no hint whether it plans to expand this focus to western markets.

This could be a reaction to Nintendo’s Miitomo social game that was released with great success in Japan recently. Regardless, we’re excited to see exactly what new content Sony comes up with, especially given the breadth of IP to tap into.
