Sony Mobile has released a new Beta Marshmallow update, which brings back STAMINA battery mode, as expected. The update moves the Android 6.0.1 build number to version 23.5.A.1.151 for select users of the Xperia Z2 (D6503), Z3 (D6603) and Z3 Compact (D5803).
To activate the new Stamina battery mode you will need to go to Settings > Battery > Stamina mode. You can then customize and set the battery level percentage for automatic activation. We would hope to see STAMINA hit the official software at some point soon.
It is worth noting that due to the changes brought about with Android Marshmallow, namely the mandatory Doze feature, Sony has had to work with Google’s new battery saving feature and therefore there are some limitations. Some of those on the beta have complained that this new STAMINA mode on Android Marshmallow does not have the same level of customisation available compared to STAMINA mode on Android Lollipop.
Here is what the developers had to say on this: “Stamina under Lollipop had a completely different configuration due to the operating system itself. What we can do is to improve the new Stamina in other ways, including usability, functionality, stability, reach etc., but always within the new OS framework.”
