Sony Mobile is set to launch two new Xperia devices tomorrow at its IFA press conference – the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact. You can take a first official look at both devices below as the press pictures have leaked. The design of each handset is in line with what we have previously seen.
The pictures confirm that both devices have a curved edge and support USB Type-C. Sony is also using a change in camera configuration – initially it was thought that the handset would be using a dual LED, but judging by the pictures this is inconclusive. Sony could instead be using other sensors to improve image quality such as laser autofocus (as seen in the LG G4 and OnePlus 2) and maybe a RBG/Color Spectrum Sensor (CSS), such as the one seen in the LG G4, for improved white balance. These same sensors also appear on the Xperia X Compact.
The pictures also show that the handset uses the same fingerprint sensor that Sony has used since the Z5. New official cases are shown with each handset and we can see some of the colours that Sony plans to launch these new devices with. The Xperia X Compact is shown in a sky blue colour, along with a black and white option. The Xperia XZ is shown in what looks like a dark blue colour along with a silver or gold metallic option. We’ll bring you official details on both devices tomorrow.
