Sony’s range of Xperia tablets were some of the best received in the Android ecosystem. The Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact was a fan favourite, and the Xperia Z4 Tablet was a bona-fide productivity machine, with its excellent keyboard and home launcher modifications.
It is close to three years since the Xperia Z4 Tablet launched, and fans have been eyeing new hardware ever since. While Sony executives have stated on the record that it was not planning any future tablet products due to poor sales (something all manufacturers have suffered from in the Android space), there may be a glimmer of hope.
References to an 8-inch and 10-inch tablet have appeared in the latest version of Sony’s camera app. A breakdown of the apk reveals images of a tablet form-factor in a tutorial. Now, there’s a good chance that Sony might be updating the camera app for existing devices, which would tie in with Sony’s current tablets. But Sony’s last 8-inch tablet, the Z3 Tablet Compact hasn’t received an update for a long time now.
Therefore, there is a chance that Sony might be working on new devices. However, we wouldn’t get our hopes up too much, there’s only a slim chance we might see Sony release new tablets. For those still dreaming of new Xperia Tablet hardware, we’ll cling to any signs of hope that we can.
